April Henry is a fantastic author to give to reluctant readers. As she did with Girl, Stolen, Henry ensnares the reader within the first few pages of Count All Her Bones. Readers will stay engaged until the end and ask more more April Henry books.

Nooooooo!!
I accidentally read the second book before I read the first!

Luckily, Count All Her Bones recapped everything that happened in Girl, Stolen well.

Unluckily, I thought this was a standalone book that was going to tell the story through flashbacks.

I was wrong. By the time I figured that out, it was too late. I knew everything that happened in the first book! Oh, the horror!

In spite of having not read the first book, I still saw the twist coming way early. Also, I thought that

the victims cared WAY too much about their captors. Cheyenne desperately did not want one of them to be dead in spite of the fact he might have killed her had she not defended herself and Griffin should NOT have tried to rescue one of them from the fire. I was surprised that Henry didn’t address that caring about your captors could cost you your escape or even your life. The first thing I learned in my self-defense class was DO NOT WORRY ABOUT YOUR ATTACKER.

Aside from that, the mystery was good and the premise was interesting.

This is a great April Henry book. It is an excellent sequel to the Girl Stolen novel. Filled with suspense and excitement, it definitely doesn't disappoint. Though a little slow moving at times and predictable, it is still a great wrap up to the original story line.

As a fan of April Henry, I wasn't disappointed in Count All Her Bones. Her books are hard to keep on the shelf in our library. Students love sequels of awesome reads, which is how I would describe Girl Stolen. Realistic fiction such as these two titles are not only entertaining but are informational. April Henry's research makes the reader feel as though they, too, have survived a harrowing experience with the confidence to do so again.

It has been six months since Cheyenne had been kidnapped during a car theft gone wrong. One of her captor’s helped her escape and now his father is awaiting his trial. While they are waiting to testify against Roy, Cheyenne and Griffin reconnect on Facebook and make arrangements to meet. Unfortunately, their plan doesn’t go well and Cheyenne is kidnapped again by Roy’s men. Do they just want money or do they want Cheyenne dead? Can she escape? Was Griffin working for his father or was he duped along with Cheyenne?

Count All Her Bones is the second book in the Girl, Stolen series. Cheyenne has not been idle during the six months between stories and she has emerged stronger and smarter. Henry has created a new story that is quick paced and hard to put down. Since the book is so short, readers will find themselves stuck in one place and reading it in one sitting. Also, since the events happen in such a short amount of time, readers are not dragged along unnecessary storylines in order to fill additional pages. Count All Her Bones is a great thriller and a must read.

Although this book is coming out many years after Girl, Stolen, it is like April Henry wrote them together. The suspense from book 1 is still there and cannot stop reading until it is done. Loved it!

Well, silly me. I hadn't yet read "Girl, Stolen" (book 1 in this 2 book series) and just cruised along into "Count All Her Bones" like a ninny. That being said, the book really held up as a standalone read. I wish I had read the books in order because at times I felt like I was missing key backstory (and I was!). However, let's not dwell on my shortcomings.

April Henry is such a class act. She's got this genre down and continues to write compelling work. This book is written from multiple perspectives. Each chapter has the character's name as the title. I really enjoyed this format from her. It felt appropriately creepy and foreboding with Cheyenne just waltzing headlong into danger.

The same beats you expect from an April Henry novel are all here: realistic thrill and creepiness with compassion and dynamic characters. Good pacing was a key to its success with me. Loved how the story flowed and kept me turning pages.

Count All Her Bones is a thrill ride that will leave your mind aching and your heart thumping.
