Full Disclosure: I hadn’t read any of the other books in this series. However, when I saw it was a Viking romance set in a futuristic world? Sign me up! The beginning was rough for me, but by the middle, I was addicted. It was--and wasn’t--what I was expecting.

The world has changed. After a series of storms and floods, the Earth isn't what it used to be. Only certain parts of the U.S. are still known as habitable. Some parts are blocked away by kings and others by groups of raider Vikings. Wulf is part of the latter. But their worlds collide as Wulf goes on a reconnaissance mission in the middle of the Western Mainland with it’s horrible King Athenian. Get in, get out. That’s it.

Only Wulf doesn't expect a different type of distraction.

Princess Kathlyn hears talk of the Raider King in their midst, and she decides to take her virginity into her own hands. She'll deliver it to the Viking and curse her father all at once. She doesn’t expect Wulf's potent masculinity or his bold fingers and devilish tongue. With time running out, both need to decide if their newfound and unwanted feelings are worth the risk.

The setting caught my attention first. The Earth is in disarray and there are those like King Athenian hoarding light and ruling people with an iron fist, and those like the Vikings who are said to be barbarians, but wish to expand their knowledge of the outside world. I loved gaining insight into the politics and intrigue.

Wulf, the Raider King, is without a doubt an alpha. Everything he does--from the way he walks into a room or meets someone’s eye--proclaims it. He’s gruff and in-your-face and so cocky. Granted, it’s earned! But that leads me to the filthy-mouthed raider portion of my review. I actually didn’t like Wulf at the beginning. He was overly arrogant, and he has a habit of using curse words as adjectives every other sentence. It became more gratuitous than anything. It pulled me out of the story.

In the same vein, the sex scenes are scorching hot but dirty, raw and explicit. I like my stories dirty so I was game, but I could see others not liking the language used.

Now, onto Kathlyn. I liked her. She doesn’t have the same experience growing up. As a princess in the King’s Mainland, her job is to get bids on her virginity and save her innocence. Say, what? Yes, her father is a total douchenozzle. Kathlyn, however, is going to change her future in any way she can. That’s how she ends up against a wall in Wulf's cell realizing the pleasure in something Kathlyn had thought brought only pain.

Kathlyn's world is separatist. It's almost like the people are brainwashed into believing in their fates. I just adored how Kathlyn fights against it. Because despite how soft and sweet Kathlyn is, she also has a core of steel. I can't imagine a better match for Wulf.

These two together were simply dynamite. Kathlyn softens Wulf while he gives her a little of his bravado and badassery. The character development took my breath away, and I was rooting for them something fierce.

Now, the opening starts off pretty slow. There are many internal monologs that I had to slog through, but once the story starts picking up speed, it doesn’t let you go to the very end. I had so many emotions--good and bad--and it made the reading experience so unique and heart-wrenching and satisfying, all at once. I gave this read a solid 4 stars because of it.

Edge of Power is a dark romance and those who read it should be aware of that. But it's also a very raw and gritty story. It's crass and bold and beautiful all at once. An epic journey that will stay with you long after the last page.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The world is not as it was. Waters have risen, changing the coastlines and borders. No one really knows how much of the U.S. there actually is anymore. Seasons have a new meaning, in some places Winter lasts for 6 months.

Wulf is the King of the raider brotherhood. He is ruthless and doesn't lose. He is loyal to his brothers as they are to him, every brother earns their place. Wulf's next target is a King of another area as he and his clan have information this King has a power plant that could help the rest of the country. This King, Athenian, is a cruel man, his power is making all fear him and death comes easily to those he wants it too.

Wulf ventures on with the intention of "negotiating" peace. His clan will be following him, getting there in 20 days. In the meantime, Wulf needs to find out how to access this plant and gather military info to help he and his team.

He didn't plan on meeting Kathlyn though...

Can Wulf survive until his team comes? Can he gather the information he needs? Will he and Kathlyn make it?

I have to say that I loved this book! I have read several stories by this author and she did not disappoint me.

If I met Wulf in real life, he would probably scare the he** out of me. He is truly the definition of a warrior to me. He is rough and tough, no softness about him. He has no fear but he is a very smart man and knows how to play the game when it comes to dealing with King Athenian.

Kathlyn, daughter to Athenian, knows she has just been a pawn for her father he whole life. He has no problem physically and mentally abusing her and she knows he will one day kill her as he did her mother. Women have no importance in this society besides maybe gaining a man some importance or her ability to have children. Many have been known to just disappear.

Kathlyn brings out another part of Wulf. She is not as meek and mild as she looks, she is actually a very strong woman. The people love her also, the common folk, not the ones vying for power with her father. Wulf finds himself wanting to protect her and keep her safe, a feeling he has never experienced before. He just doesn't know if his "princess" can live like a raider.

There is so much to say but I don't want to give any spoilers. I do want to say that the "mounting" ceremony was disgusting! It was a fact of life for women though and they didn't know any better.

I strongly recommend this book!

Megan Crane delivered a kick arse book for Wulf. I enjoyed every book in this series but this one is my new favorite. I loved Wulf and Kathlyn and devoured their story.

Wulf was such a bad arse ! He delivered himself right into the enemy kingdom so that he could take down a monster and bring light back to the world. Kathlyn was the sheltered golden princess from the last book. She had warned Eiryn and Riordan about her evil father's plans to destroy the raiders. Wulf's princess was the perfect match for him. She also kept her strength hidden and let her enemy underestimate at their own detriment until the right moment to strike. Even after all the surprises and twists had unfolded Kathlyn continued to fight for Wulf.

I have been captivated by this series since the first book. The writing is excellent with each book continuing to intrigue with bold characters and steamy suspenseful stories. Edge Of Power is a mesmerizing book that captured my attention on the first page and didn't let go until the last. I don't know if the series is set to continue but I would be so happy if that could happen. I loved it and am hopefully looking forward to more from Megan Crane.

Not my fave in the series, but by far not my least. After reading so much of Wulf in the previous stories, I had expected someone a little larger than life, fiercer, with a little more edge and a lot more personality. We see him watered down here, trying to reign himself in, so his true colours are only hinted at in his internal monologues - not in action and rarely in words. I felt a little gypped. I had been hoping for more. The sex scenes were good, but few, and seemed out of character for him and lacking in adventure, daring or passion.
I was still entertained, and enjoyed the book, but was maybe biased towards his character based n the previous books in the series?

Edge of Power is excellent. I'm a fan of the series and this book.

I think if you aren't a fan, or if you are starting with this one, you might not be as willing as I am to overlook the slow pace and slow burn (sorta!) romance between the principals Wulf and Kathlyn. I liked him, her, the set-up and the conclusion - but I found myself frustrated and reflecting on the pacing/relationship once I turned the last page. So... with those things in mind, let's get to the review!

Wulf is great book boyfriend material. Super hot, super intelligent and super confident, Ms. Crane has teased us with glimpses of the enigmatic Raider King throughout the series. I looked forward to his book more than any of the others and though he turns out to be a terrific alpha, he isn't quite given enough to do this time out. When we last saw him, he'd learned his enemies were planning to move on the raider stronghold - and the timing of the attack is pivotal to its success/failure. He's learned about the plan from the two raiders he sent to infiltrate the enemy camp - Eiryn & Riordan (the principals featured in Edge of Control). They learned of it when they rather fortuitously met up with King Athenian's daughter, Princess Kathlyn.

As the story opens, Wulf has survived a Winter trip from the Viking territory and arrived alive (with his weapons) at King Athenian's stronghold. Through his PoV we know the brotherhood has a plan in place to defeat the King, and that Wulf's arrival sets that plot in motion - we just don't know how. Once he arrives, instead of killing him on the spot, Athenian opts to toy with his prisoner/guest - his first mistake.

Once in his cell/guest room, Wulf is surprised by the arrival of one of the kingdom's courtesans. Up for a fuck with his mysterious guest, it takes him a but a few moments to recognize though she's dressed for the part, she's either new to the trade or terrible at it. When he presses her on her intentions, and then kisses/fondles her, it's obvious she's never done this before. Wulf doesn't relent until she confesses who she is - Princess Kathlyn, Athenian's virgin daughter.

Kathlyn knows Wulf's arrival must be linked to the information she passed to his fellow raiders, and she knows who he is, but she underestimates him and his affect on her when she delivers herself to his cell. His massive and intimidating presence startles her, but his affect on her physically - her body tingles around him, leaves her unbalanced and confused.

Their encounter is intense, and the attraction they feel for each other catch both by surprise. Wulf tries to make it clear he's no good for Kathlyn, but it's obvious he's having a hard time convincing himself, let alone Kathlyn. Kathlyn is overwhelmed with her physical attraction to Wulf, but tries to hide it behind a stoic demeanor. Neither succeeds.

Kathlyn hates her father, his kingdom and well...pretty much everything about her life. Prized for her virginity and it's value as a commodity to be traded by her father, she's decided to give it to Wulf, and take the decision out of the kings hands. Beaten and bullied by her father throughout her life, Kathlyn yearns to escape the confines of the kingdom and is desperate for control of her future. Wulf makes it clear he isn't the answer to her problems or the savior she believes him to be. (ahem.) He sends her away, leaving her confused by her physical response to him and anxious about returning to her quarters unseen. When she's spotted by one of her father's wives, she panics and tries to control the situation, but not before guards are called. Though she manages to keep her visit to Wulf a secret, the damage to her reputation is done.

Kathlyn's appearance before her father, dressed in a courtesan's clothes, sets the novel in motion. Fans of the series know a reckoning for King Athenian is in store - but Ms. Crane saves that for the conclusion of the book. Edge of Power is about the powerful and intense relationship between Wulf and Kathlyn. Wulf tries to help Kathlyn when she's called before her father (he can't seem to help himself - though he tries!). Just as Wulf hoped, King Athenian decides to link their fates together - he'll give her virginity to the savage raider King - and the story transitions into a slow burn love affair between the two. Mistake number 2.

King Athenian is vicious, evil and has no fatherly love for Kathlyn. But he underestimates the enemy at his gates, his daughter, and remains ignorant of the budding romantic relationship between them. Guards and doors fail to keep Wulf contained, and when his late night explorations lead him to Kathlyn's door, he takes advantage of the opportunity. He has no intention of taking Kathlyn's virginity in a public forum or allowing her to believe sex is shameful or painful. Raiders love sex and their king is no different. Unfortunately, Kathlyn isn't the only one who learns something new about lovemaking that night. Wulf, though he fights hard to deny it, falls hard for his feisty princess. When he finally fucks her, it's like nothing he's ever felt before.

Wulf tries to keep away from Kathlyn and fights to resist his feelings for her. Kathlyn knows she's fallen for the raider, but sees no hope for their future. She fully believes her father intends to torture and kill Wulf, and that he'll succeed. The book skips between her PoV and his, and though they are forced together by King Athenian - they don't actually spend much time together for most of the book. When the raiders finally arrive and the plot to overthrow King Athenian unfolds, it's nearly too late. But Ms. Crane delivers Athenian's well deserved overthrow just when it seemed the relationship between Wulf and Kathlyn had nowhere good to go.

Quite a bit happens between Wulf's arrival and the arrival of the brotherhood, but I don't want to spoil the book. We spend a lot of time in our principals heads as they work through how they feel about each other, and the intrigues at the castle. What we don't spend a lot of time doing is reading explosive sex scenes - a trademark of this remarkable series. It's too bad. Though I love hearing how much Wulf wants Kathlyn and what he wants to do to her - it's not enough. There's a tad to much thinking (who knew Wulf was such a broody hero) and not enough fucking IMHO.

The ending doesn't unfold at all as I expected but it works in the context of the story. I wish the last chapter didn't end as abruptly as it did - but again, I think Ms. Crane knows her characters and this ending is just the right balance of romance for this couple. I was left wanting more Wulf, more Vikings and well...MORE.

Four and a half stars, I deducted half a star because there wasn't enough of the way out Viking marauder sex for my liking!

Wulf, the Raider King has crossed the seas in Winter to confront King Athenian who, he has learned, plans to wipe out the Raider settlements. Alone Wulf enters Athenian's stronghold and acts like the stupid barbarian Athenian thinks he is. Holed up in a cell made to look like a luxurious apartment Wulf wanders the castle by night seeking the entrance to the power station which gives Athenian his power over the Compliant.

When a scantily dressed woman enters his rooms he thinks at first that his request for food, wine and pussy has been granted but it only takes him seconds to realise that although the woman might be dressed as a courtesan she is anything but. Wulf's mysterious visitor is none other than Kathlyn, the King's virgin daughter who offers her virginity to Wulf.

Most of this book centres around Kathlyn, her father and Wulf. Athenian is bat-shit crazy, a mean man, made worse by his power. He has been hoarding Kathlyn's virginity to sell to the highest bidder and consolidate his power by giving her to his allies as a Winter Bride. As Wulf hides his true nature and continues his reconnaissance he finds himself fascinated by the beautiful princess, so soft and weak - unlike the raider women of his home.

I loved this book, in the previous books Wulf was an omniscient King cold-hearted and ruthless. IN this book we get to see his softer side and why exactly he had his own father crippled (totally deserved it by the way). The cruel rituals of the Compliant are exposed in all their absurdity and their need to humiliate and dominate women. You read with bated breath wondering if Wulf can balance the tightrope long enough for his men to complete their missions and meet him at Equinox.

This series has everything. It's a post-apocalyptic, swords, castles and princesses, mad cults and priests, hot group sex, Viking mash-up. I mean, come on! Viking marauders, sword fights, a virgin princess, a mad King and evil rituals which see a man take a woman's virginity before the entire court? What's not to love? This series just gets better and better. I'm guessing Indy might be the subject of the next book ...

Already eagerly anticipating the next book.

Throughout this series I have wondered how the lounging, arrogant, but undeniably powerful Viking King would be portrayed when it came to his own story. Megan Crane’s depiction of this imposing King was exceptional. She allowed him his violent and relentless behaviour, however, she also ensured that the tenderness and caring that can only be shown to the woman he claims, broke through his hardened exterior.

The captivating world building is expanded in Edge of Power, and the cast of characters with their vastly different personalities never disappoint. I’m not sure where the series will go from here, but I’m sure readers will be enthralled by whatever Ms Crane chooses to write.

ARC received for review

Kick-arse King Wulff finally meets his match with Princess Kathlyn. So much good stuff with the rest of the brothers coming along to help turn the lights on. Her father is the nasty piece of crap you will ever meet and deserves to die a horrible death. I sure hope this isn't the end of this series cause now I want to know more about Indy.

Another great book by Megan Crane. This series has been a must read. Wulf is the raider king, he gets caught up with princess Kathlyn. Her abusive father needs to be taken down, Wulf is the man to do it.

Wulf! Yes! I need his story like I need to breathe. And would they get that bloody internet back on?!

This book fed my Wulf addiction and I couldn't help but feel jealous of Kathlyn!!!

Kathlyn (the curtain hider from the last book!) has lived a confined life thanks to her tyrant father, King Athenian, so she delivers herself into the presence of Wulf and it starts off a series of events that will change both of their lives forever.

This world that the author has created is just beyond amazing. I want to go back to book 1 just to re-live it all again because this series is a reread delight! I really hope this book isn't the end of the series.

Edge of power is another book from Edge series and I anticipated to finally read it. But I was not blown away by it story. I have a feeling that was more just talking, discussing and staling. I missed action, missed Vikings possessiveness toward his mate. Characters were well developed. Kathlyn is interesting character and I didn’t completely understand all her actions especially at the ceremony and her wish to have it. I liked how she really saw Wulf for was he were, that she tried to protect him, that she did everything to have him. Wulf was true to himself with laziness and his way of twisting words had he hidden well his attentions. In a way I understood him, because he couldn’t let his Clan and all the plans that they made to run down the drain for some woman. Of course all the action between him and Kathlyn was hot and it was good to see that her love affected him so much that he had improved his physically condition by running every night.
Great read.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly

I fell in love with Wulf, he came accross as a barbarian to others but when it came to Kathlyn he was so protective and in his own strange way sweet, “hold on to me,” he told her then. “Don’t be afraid to make it hurt . But don’t you dare give them what they want.” I really enjoyed this book.
