An interesting read for those of us hoping to cut down on the sugar in our diet.

Very informative and easy to read. Good reference book to have on the shelf - offers a five week program based around 50 recipes and 100 snacks to help replace bad eating habits with good ones.

Blast The Sugar Out is, on surface view, very similar to most books on the topic: eat more plants, avoid refined/processed foods, and exercise. But the book is also concise, has a nice set of meals/recipes, and is full of easy to follow program/exercises. Those looking for a less complicated program, with clear goals and clean interface, will find this book rewarding.

Smith eschews the usual doom and gloom of "if you get diabetes, you could loose a limb or go blind" and instead stays focused on the positive. There are some studies quoted but not endless rounds of them as can usually be found in most diet/health books these days. The chapters leading up to the meal plan are brief and more about why parts or aspects of the plan were chosen rather than to add filler.

There are case examples throughout and of course Smith is very up beat and friendly in his writing and his plan. The recipes are very easy and use everyday ingredients - there are no odd or fancy things you're going to have to learn to cook/like. He also encourages 'right snacking' and has a great list of substitutions to get you eating better/healthier.

In all, this is a quick read and the plan is very easy to follow. You won't need a whole pantry of exotic ingredients or supplements - and the plan ensures that your blood sugar is managed, removed spikes and lows that can affect mood and energy. My one nitpick is that the recipes have paragraph form steps rather than numbered. It makes it much harder to follow them when they aren't numbered in small paragraph form. But they are easy to read even on Kindle. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

I received a ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The author provides lots of really great information for reducing sugar intake. Now, if only the book can cook and serve food as well ;-) The easy part is to read this book and absorb the information it provides - the hard part, which has yet to come, is the implementation.

Great plan, easy to read and follow. Have had success with several other of Dr. Ian's plans and look forward to more success. The author Ian K. Smith, MD, explains where the various kinds of sugar come from, and offers a five week program with weekly changes to replace some of our bad habits with good ones.

I didn't realize when I requested this book that a lot of it has to do with people who have (or at risk for) diabetes. At the end of last year I cut out all sugar, bread and dairy and was really shocked at how much better I felt. I was looking for more general information as well as recipes.

A lot of the general health information is on diabetes (which I would have known had I have read the blurb more carefully) but I still think it applies to anyone trying to cut down on, or cut sugar out of their diet. The author has a nice style of writing. It's informative but not heavy on medical jargon and is easy to read for the every day average person.

A huge portion of the book is recipes and I tried a bunch of them. They were all easy to follow and tasted great.

I think the book is really great for people with diabetes and I actually ended up referring it to a few of my patients to read. I also think it's good for people like myself who are just looking for health benefits and/or lifestyle changes.

Dr. Ian K. Smith has offered another helpful tool to help people lose weight. This time he focuses on the dangers that Sugar has on our body. Sugar is hidden in so many of our favorite foods. If you are familiar with Dr. Ian K. Smith's previous books like The Shred, Super Shred, etc. - you will have a general idea how to get prepared for this diet.

I did try it for a week and lost 5 pounds. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to lose weight without feeling deprived. If this is your first time trying out any of Dr. Smith's books - I would recommend starting with The Shred diet and then use this book next.

What a wonderful book. I will admit, I am addicted to sugar. I know that sugar is not good but I have also read/researched sugar substitutes. This book was very eye-opening for me. It was very straight forward and had wonderful suggestions on ways to decrease one's sugar intake. I read this book in one day. I will be using this book for the tips and the recipes. The recipes provide, there is something for everyone. And the snack addition is awesome. When I travel, I will be utilizing the snacks that are provided in this book. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this wonderful book in return for my honest review.

Because of all the recent information I have come across on how bad sugar is for all of us, I wanted to take a more in-depth look at this subject. Blast the Sugar Out offers a very comprehensive look at the subject. The author Ian K. Smith, MD, explains where the various kinds of sugar come from, and offers a five week program with weekly changes to replace some of our bad habits with good ones.

I feel that the diet is easy to implement, and I like that it doesn’t completely eliminate carbs as so many do these days. It actually includes sandwiches, wraps, crackers, bagels and potatoes. I tried one of the zero no-carb diets a few years ago, and let me tell you, I found it excruciatingly difficult to completely eliminate carbs! The recipes in the book range from breakfast pizzas to salads and shepherds pie. The author also provides 100 snack ideas. Since snacking has become my downfall, I appreciate that he added ideas to help me in that department.

I highly recommend this book. The author says this is a good plan if your diabetic or just want to get healthier.

This book is focused on weight loss for diabetics but can be helpful for anyone trying to reduce sugar intake. I am not currently following this diet but I will post my results when I do.

I have read all Ian Smith's SHRED books and they are full of good information, however I would say this book is definitely for people who have Diabetic issues. I have a father that struggles with Diabeties, and this is a great book to help give up the sugar addiction as well as learn to balance your diet.

This book provides a basic blueprint of how to get sugar out of your diet. I thought it was going to be the basic "do this, don't do this" type of plan. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find day by day meal plans for the entire five weeks plus recipes! I really liked the section of the start of each week where the reader is encouraged to change a bad habit, pick a good habit and pick an improvable habit. Dr. Ian also provides exercise routines per week as well. The Nutri Nuggets are little gems that keep you focused and provide healthy tips. I think this plan is very well thought out and non-intimidating. For anyone who loves a regimen that is laid out in easy to follow steps, this is the plan for you.

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this review copy.

Always interested in a new diet/healthy eating book to help me live a healthy life. Was particularly interested in this as my husband is Type 1 Diabetic and like to see if there are any tips we haven't heard about yet. I found this book useful and there was some interesting information in there, but felt it was very much geared towards the American market. I also felt that it may be useful if you are newly diagnosed, but in our household we have been living with this for 20+ years so it was feeling like it was trying to 'teach your grandmother how to suck eggs' (eggs are carb free - very good for diabetics! :-)) It was an interesting book, but wasn't really much use for me.
