My expectations were a bit high for this horror anthology, so most of the stories fell a little flat in the end. I had a few surprises, but it wasn't enough to make me want to go deeper into the work of any of the authors.

Death and pestilence by B.G Strong.
Twenty authors from Canada, USA, England, South Africa, Australia and Brazil take you on a journey of terror and fright that will leave you looking over your shoulder, wondering what lies beyond the next turn and asking yourself what is hidden in the shadows.
Really enjoyed this book. Some great stories. Had my favourites. Some eerie and spooky. 5*.

This is a very strong collection of horror stories, each with its own distinct characteristic. I particularly enjoyed "Plague II" by B.G. Strong, a graphic story but there are plenty of others that aren't as graphic.

This anthology is made up of the top twenty submissions from a short story horror contest. I enjoyed the winning story, but it ultimately fell flat. The stories are well-written and I enjoyed reading some of the stories, but not all of them. I couldn't finish this anthology.

This anthology was extremely hit or miss for me. Some of the shorts, The Curse of Greenwater Falls and Daniel Black's Last Book for example, were well worth 5 stars. Yet there were others I couldn't rate nearly as positively, or some even finish at all. That is always the risk with an anthology however, and I always love finding new authors, hidden gems amidst mediocrity.

Overall this was a neat little collection, and worth the read even if I did skim some of the stories. It had a good mix of genre sub-types, from ghosts to plagues to murderers. Supernatural and the plain old psychotic. Enough of a mix to keep you busy and stave off any boredom. Just not enough to keep me excited and coming back for more.

This is a collection of the top twenty submissions from a short story horror contest. "Plague II" (the first place winner) started out strong but just ended flat for me. There were some stories that were well written and I really enjoyed reading like "The Curse of Greenwater Falls" and "The Monster Outside the Well". But then there were stories that were boring or ridiculous. And for that reason, I could only read 80% of the book and did not finish the rest of the stories.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sands Press for an arc of "Death & Pestilence: A Horror Anthology " in exchange for my honest review.

This is a collection of short stories that all of them are good. I found "The Board", "Daniel Black's Last Book" and "Deadly Senses" to be very good. The collection is a quick read and one any horror fan should reach for. I highly recommend this book and will be looking for other works from some of the authors that were included in this collection. Thank you NetGalley, the authors, and the publisher for the advanced reading copy of this book in return for my honest review.

Death and Pestilence, A Horror Anthology edited by Andrea Johnson was received direct from the publisher. Anthologies are always hit or miss, with more misses nowadays due to political correctness. This is true even in horror fiction. This collection is not like that at all. These authors hit the ground running and do not let up. Short story after entertaining short story will keep you turning the pages until this quick read is finished. If you or someone you buy for likes no nonsense short horror stories, give this anthology a shot right now.

I love short horror stories, and more than that I love discovering new (to me) authors, So I got a lot of enjoyment out of these creepy little gems. Some of my favorites were "Plague II" by B.G. Strong in which the world has become a place where you can smell your own eyes rotting in your head. Too gross for you? Don't worry there are some less graphic stories, though others that are even more so.
"The Curse of Greenwater Falls" by Flynn Gray is a good old fashioned spooky tale, and for anyone like me who lives in a small town we all know there are certain roads best not traveled if you can avoid it. "Trail's End" by E.J. Walker Is a not so cheery story even though the birds are chirping in the awakening forest as Thomas and his wife share what will be their last camping trip together. "Blood of a Sinner" by Guy Cheston tells the story of an abusive foster mother and the boy she will not be abusing any longer. "My Friend Bruce" by Caito Caol was probably one of the most brutal but also most impressive stories as we are told by Robert how he came to meet Bruce and what happened to that friendship. "Vodka Memories" by Victoria Griffin was both chilling and heartbreaking as we learn how Melanie lost the love of her life. "The Monsters Outside the Well" by Nathan S.M. Knapp was probably my absolute favorite of the bunch. 5 boys uncover an old well and after they do, there are only 4 boys left to fill it in. "The Lantern" by Dennis Stein is the story of a woman who is drawn to a lamp in a curio shop who learns that some things are best not illuminated. "Captive" by Kristine Barker is the story of a woman who finally finds the strength to get out of an abusive relationship, but at what cost..
I would highly recommend this anthology to any horror fan.
