Disappointingly, this book doesn't live up to the rather intriguing blurb. The book is also quite overdone and feels really unnatural. Perhaps this was a stylistic choice because the author worked on Shameless? Perhaps this is an example of what works for tv doesn't work for a book?

A very promising plot . Unsympathetic characters and a depressing but well observed setting made it a slog to finish .

Everything you do is wrong by Amanda Coe started with an intriguing mystery. A woman wakes up in a taxi hundreds of miles from home, feeling disorientated and sick, with a pocket full of money and no memory of how she got there. Everyone thinks she is suicidal and she is temporarily sectioned. The novel then goes back in time to explain how the person got in to this situation.

The narrative then turns into a fairly standard domestic drama about a stressed out young mother, struggling with a poorly sleeping baby and problems with her relationship with her husband. Gradually, it appears that all is not well, and there are people in her immediate environment who are not on her side. Her mother and father, brother and his new soap star girlfriend and her mother in law, a psychiatrist, seem to have her best interests at heart but are concerned for her mental health. The plot does take a while to develop but it does a reasonable job of gradually introducing a feeling of unease and menace, although some of the lead characters moves are a little predictable. There are a number of twists in the plot, one of which I saw coming, but the others, not so much. Overall, it was an entertaining, if a little light weight read. I spent a rainy autumn afternoon reading it and would recommend it to those who like psychological thrillers.

Unfortunately, I read this book back in 2017 but completely forgot to upload a review on here, so can't remember exactly what I was going to say about it!

Everything you do is wrong by by Amanda Coe.
Harmony craves for drama.
Then its answered when a naked lifeless body of a woman is found.
Who is alive. Who is she? Can Amanda help her?.
A good read. Good story. Some Good characters. 4*.

After a young woman is mysteriously found naked on a beach in the UK, the local police force and local characters - Mel, who rescued her, and Harmony, a teenager - get involved to figure out where she came from and what happened to her. I really felt that the portrayal of a northern British coastal town was very accurate and authentic, having spent a lot of time on the coast in British tourist resorts off season.

Unfortunately, although I loved the setting, the descriptions and the imagery, the bleak depression and the weight of the troubles these people have endured, the plot didn't really go anywhere. I wasn't really hooked, the twists seemed fairly predictable and the ending just made me frown and close the book. The focus is really on the people and not on the mystery, but the characters just weren't enough to carry it and the slow pacing left me feeling bored and ultimately unsatisfied.

The synopsis seemed to grab me but reading this book it felt so slow going that I gave up at 50% I just couldn’t continue. It seemed more about the people helping Storm rather than how she ended up on the beach. I was expecting the book to be a little like blind spot the tv series. But so far off

I really wanted to try and enjoy Everything you do is wrong, but the book just didn't hold my attention.

Went through a phase of getting "read now" books that sounded vaguely interesting. Never got around to reading this one.

I have loved the opportunity to spend time researching novels to re-stockl our senior bookshelves in the school library that plays a central role in the life of the school. When I first took over the library was filled with dusty tomes that were never borrowed and languished there totally unloved.
Books like this, play a central role in ensuring that the library is stocked with fresh relevant fiction that appeals to the readers. It has a strong voice and a compelling plot that ensures that you speed through its pages, enjoying both its characterisation and dialogue whilst wanting to find out how all of its strands will be resolved by the end.
I have no hesitation in adding this to the 'must buy' list so that the senior students and staff of the school can enjoy it as much as I did. This is a gripping read that will be sure to grip its readers whether they are fans of this genre or coming to it for the first time through our now-thriving school library recommendation system. Thanks so much for allowing me to review it!

From the description of this book I expected the main focus to be the mystery behind who Storm is, but the book focused on the people around Storm's story like the woman who found her, Mel and the young PC who wants to investigate her identity. I would have no issue with this approach if the characters were interesting and robust enough to carry the story and if the fact the focus was off Storm, who is the central character in terms of this mystery, felt deliberate and unnatural.

A lot of the story around Mel and her family would be fine if this was a contemporary fiction novel, but as a mystery I found this quite a frustrating read and I found I began to care less and less about the internal monologues of the characters.

Ultimately the focus of the story seemed too far off target so I began to care less about Storm's identity myself and was predictably disappointed by the ending. Not a mystery I cared for, unfortunately.

Everything You Do is Wrong by Amanda Coe is a slow paced and easy read that was readable but not memorable.

I was initially drawn to this by the premise of someone being washed up on the beach, neither they nor anyone else knowing who they were, and how that would affect the local community. Sadly, it seemed to want to sidestep much of this and only left me frustrated by its rambling scenes which went nowhere and extremely disappointed with the eventual payoff when it came. I thought some of the characters were interesting but these alone weren't enough to redeem it. Not for me.

Sorry, really did not enjoy this. I found it cliched, and a clunky read. Characters were unlikeable and badly drawn. Story was so slow. Dull, dull dull.

I so wanted to enjoy this book and was drawn in by the description. It sounded like just my type of book but unfortunately I couldn't get into it - it started fairly well however I found most of the book disjointed and random. I wouldn't recommend.

Some very interesting characters in 'everything you do is wrong' . I did get slightly confused at the beginning of the book with the characters and their relationships to each other but after a while it all fell into place. A different and interesting book , worth a read

I struggled with this book from the start, the description made me think I’d love it and I was excited to start reading it.
Unfortunately it wasn’t for me so I gave up.

Very disappointed in Everything You Do Is Wrong. It had such promise! The plot was so intriguing and I couldn’t wait to start it. But this very quickly revealed itself to be a disappointing read. The book isn’t very well written at all. The characters are infuriating and annoying. Their conversations are irritating and unrealistic. But the mystery of the girl on the beach kept me going ... wondering who she was, where she came from and why she would not speak.
So the ending had me feeling robbed - like I’d just been reading something completely pointless and totally ridiculous. It left a bitter taste and because of this, I just couldn’t recommend this book to anyone. It feels like a huge waste of time that doesn’t even provide a well written read. It just falls completely short of all expectations.

Thanks to NetGalley, Amanda Coe and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
