Zoe Chambers these mysteries are remarkable. There so well written with slow pace that packs a punch and makes you grateful that you read them. The books and characters are solid and the mystery leaves you guessing.

This entry in the Zoe Chambers Mystery series is a little different than previous books. There is the death of a county commissioner that may be accidental, a teenage drug overdose, and then Rose's son Logan is missing in New Mexico and his girlfriend has been found dead. And that is just at the beginning of the book! The suspects are numerous in both cases that Pete is working and he is being pressured by the DA to close the case of the county commissioner. Zoe goes to New Mexico with Rose and is trying to help her as much as she can. The story was intriguing and I didn't want to put this book down until I reached the end. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Zoe Chambers is a Paramedic and Deputy Coroner in rural Pennsylvania. She also boards horsesand runs trail rides. When one of her boarders' horses returns riderless, Zoe sets out to find what she hopes is the injured man, Unfortunately, she finds County Commissioner Dale Springfield dead. She assumes that his horse spooked, dragged him before shaking him loose and heading home The autopsy shows different. It turns out that Dale is on the no side of the discussion of allowing a company to frac in their township. Could someone have killed him to prevent him from speaking out? Pete has his work cut out for him on this one to find out who has the most to gain from Dale's death. While he is investigation this, young people are overdosing on heroin and meth. Is there something mixed with the drugs? Who is bringing in these deadly drugs? Who is Wolfie, the possible dealer?

Meanwhile Zoe has been asked to make a trip to New Mexico with her best friend Rose. It seems her son, Logan has disappeared and his girlfriend has been found dead. Is he the killer or is he in hiding from the killer? There is someone hunting Logan and that puts Zoe right in the path of the killer. Pete heads to New Mexico when Zoe stops answering her phone. Rose is frantic with worry and convinced that the boy she loves like a son is innocent, it's up to Zoe - with the help of Logan's sister Allison - to find out the truth of the matter.

The author switches smoothly between storylines in both states without skipping a beat. You are at first in rural Pennsylvania, with its rolling hills, brisk snowy weather, and close-knit community, then quickly transported to New Mexico, with its jagged mountains, bright sunrises, and desert terrain with people as mysterious as the mountains themselves The Navajo friends that Logan and Alison made when they lived there, enter the story with assistance. When we reach the end of the story it comes together beautifully. The conclusion is believable and well-written. Once again, Zoe shows her smarts, her caring nature and the skills she has to assist in emergency situations. Once again, I think this is the best in the series so far. I highly recommend not just this book, but the whole series. This is more than just a cozy, it is a thriller/mystery with cozy characteristics.

Zoe Chambers is a Paramedic and Deputy Coroner in Vance Township, Pennsylvania; and she also runs a boarding stable. So when one of her boarders' horses returns riderless, Zoe sets out to find the man she hopes is merely injured. But instead she finds the body of County Commissioner Dale Springfield, and at first glance it appears his horse was spooked and he fell and hit his head. Yet when Zoe does a preliminary examination, she thinks the body is colder than it should be for a recent accident, and wonders about the time of death.

Yet Dale's death might not be an accident after all - the town is divided on a company that wants to do local fracking - and Dale was definitely on the 'no' side. So who will benefit the most if and when the deal goes through, and did anyone hate him enough to want him out of the way permanently? With a host of suspects but no solid clues, Pete has his work cut out for him on this one.

There is also another problem going on in their town - young people are overdosing on heroin and meth, but Sheriff Pete Adams isn't sure which one is the culprit, or where the teens are getting their drugs. Even with the help of Detective Wayne Baronick - a sometimes-thorn in Pete's side - every lead they have runs down to a dead end.

But even with these crimes going on, Zoe's put front and center in another investigation. It seems her best friend Rose's son Logan has disappeared out in New Mexico - right after his girlfriend's body was found in the desert; he's not answering his cell phone, and it turns out that law enforcement aren't the only ones looking for him. Roped into traveling to the Southwest with Rose's family to help search for Logan, Zoe, although thousands of miles away, might just find that distance doesn't keep danger from finding you...

No Way Home is the fifth book in the Zoe Chambers mystery and in my opinion, so far it's the best of the group (which is a pretty feat, considering the other four were quite good themselves). We start out with several deaths in Pennsylvania that may be linked somehow, and then follow Zoe in New Mexico on her quest not only to find Logan, but get answers as to who murdered his girlfriend. Rose is frantic with worry and convinced that the boy she loves like a son is innocent, it's up to Zoe - with the help of Logan's sister Allison - to find out the truth of the matter.

The author switches deftly from the scenarios going on in both states without skipping a beat. You are at first in rural Pennsylvania, with its rolling hills, brisk snowy weather, and close-knit community of people, then are transported seamlessly to New Mexico, with its jagged mountains, bright sunrises, and desert terrain; and people as mysterious as the mountains themselves - a new experience for Zoe.

Still, with each mystery going on separately yet at the same time, we are drawn deeply into the multifarious story line, anxiously awaiting the outcome of both. Without giving too much away, let it be known that while there are plenty of twists and turns along the way, Ms. Dashofy spins a tightly-knit tale that delights the mind with vivid descriptions of regions and people, bringing it to life.

When at last we reach the end of the story it comes together beautifully; and as we learn the truth it is altogether believable and well-composed; with a gamut of emotions that elicits the same from the readers of the story. Highly recommended and I look forward to the next in the series.

This is my first book in the series, and by the Author, but I had no problem connecting with the story line, the setting and the characters, which I love. I prefer to read books that come in series when they can handle being read as stand-alone novels. I prefer books that don't leave me hanging, and I felt thoroughly entertained by this novel. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

What a great book! To echo Zoe — Wow! Double (triple) jeopardy, with so many suspects, so many crimes, and far too many miles between Zoe and Pete.
Loyalties are strong, as Zoe helps Rose, Allison, and Sylvia hunt for Logan, missing in Aztec, New Mexico. Welcome help comes from Billy Yellowhorse, whom I want to see in future books if possible.
Pete is working on a murder case and drug crimes in Monangahela County, Pennsylvania, unwillingly coordinating efforts with Wayne Baronick, who isn’t a bad guy really. Environmental issues connect with real world concerns and relevance.
One might think all the subplots and twists would be hard to follow, but the storyline flowed clearly as the puzzles got more intricate. I didn’t want to stop reading, but my tired eyes rebelled, so I read to a relatively safe place and finished the amazing adventures in the morning. Definitely a “go away world” reading experience . . .

Descriptions of New Mexico “she might as well have landed on the moon” were like a lovely virtual vacation, including perfectly capturing the generic motel room that could be anywhere. I remembered the stories of a teller from the Southwest who went to college in the East and felt uneasy there, too closed in and too green.
Temperature and time zone changes add more variables to the scene (and echoed for me the unseasonable 70-degree February weather here as I was reading and March snow today).
Nicknames I love: Medicine Woman and Pony Boy
New term learned: barn sour

Paramedic and deputy coroner Zoe Chambers is planning a relaxing group ride when a lone horse returns to the barn. Zoe organized a search party and finds popular county commissioner Stonefield dead. At first, his death appears to be an accident but abnormalities appear during the autopsy. But before Zoe can investigate, her best friend Rose Bassi’s son Logan is reported missing in New Mexico and his girlfriend Kayla is found murdered. So Zoe and Rose fly to New Mexico to help in the search for Logan. Zoe is definitely out of her comfort zone in the desolate New Mexico canyons and bluffs. She joins forces with Logan's teenaged sister Allison and a mysterious young Navajo. Meanwhile, back home in rural Vance Township, police Chief Pete Adams not only has to investigate the Stonefield's murder but also has to deal with a sudden rash of overdose deaths from a combination of meth and heroin. Stonefield led a protest group against natural gas drilling (fracking). Rural residents are divided in opinion about the pros and cons of letting this development on their land. Zoe and Pete keep in contact until she disappears. Pete decides to travel to New Mexico to find Zoe and the two investigates intersect in ways neither expected. This was an enjoyable, thrilling read and another excellent book in the series.

In “No Way Home”, Zoe Chambers ventures far from home and travels to New Mexico. She is on the trail of her best friend’s missing teenage son, Logan. Logan has gone missing after a murder and he’s been pegged as a possible suspect.

Back home in Pennsylvania, Zoe’s boyfriend and Chief of Police, Pete Adams, is on the trail of a drug dealer whose mix of products has resulted in the deaths of some young people. Pete is torn between the work he has to do locally and his worry about Zoe.

The action alternates between the two locations, each building to their climax endings. Zoe proves herself really intrepid and resourceful in protecting both herself and the ones she cares about. Pete and Zoe are able to tie the pieces of the story together for an ending that was surprising and satisfying.

I’ve only read two books in this series but I am definitely hooked. The books stand alone well but I plan to go back and read the earlier books so I can understand the characters. I also appreciate that the books I have read hinted at plot lines of the earlier books without giving too much away.

I was provided a digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher via Netgalley.

This is my second book in the Zoe Chambers mystery series by Annette Dashofy that I have read, and again, WOW! Annette writes in such a way that the story hits you right from the start and the action doesn’t let up until the very last page. I read it quickly and didn’t put it down! Seriously, I read straight through until I was done because I just couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen! The plot of the entire series is very well written and well developed and each individual book adds it’s own element of pure genius. These stories are part cozy mystery and part thriller that make for a suspense-filled combo! If you haven’t read any of these books, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? I know I am already waiting for book 6…

Fine novel, not great, but fine read. What sets it apart for me was Logan's storyline and the Billy character. What bothered me was Zoe's total distrust if someone Logan and girlfriend had known sin e childhood and proved his loyalty several times. Zoe was a but unlikable there.

No Way Home

by Annette Dashofy

No Way Home combines elements of a cozy mystery with elements of a thriller, and the result is an excellent read. As a cozy, No Way Home’s main character is Zoe Chambers, a county EMS paramedic and Deputy Coroner, who gets involved in trying to solve a murder when a riderless horse returns to the stable she manages. She is also trying to help her friend Rose find her missing son Logan. Meanwhile, several young people have overdosed in her county, and Zoe’s boyfriend Pete, Chief of Police, is driven to find the dealer. In this book, there are all the components of a good cozy: a likable heroine, a love interest, and a fascinating mystery with lots of threads. In addition, we are exposed to Native American culture as found in the Four Corners area.

No Way Home is also a thriller, however. A crucial characteristic of a thriller is suspense. This book kept me interested and wanting more from start to finish and fearful of what might happen next. The book has two contrasting settings as it bounces back and forth from Pennsylvania to New Mexico in such a way that the reader wants to keep going with each plot thread in turn, a thread which is dangling just out of reach. It is a book you won’t put aside easily or for long.

I would like to extend my thanks to netgalley.com and to Henery Press for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Rating: 5/5

Category: Mystery, General Fiction (Adult)

Notes: #5 in the Zoe Chambers Mystery Series, reads well as a standalone

Publication: March 14, 2017--Henery Press

Memorable Lines:

He had an easy smile, a hearty laugh, and a talent for putting everyone at ease, whether they agreed with his politics or not. In addition, Dale was always happy to help with chores even if it meant getting dirty. Not what Zoe had expected from a well-to-do politician.

He held the phone away from his ear. At Rose’s current decibel level, Pete could almost hear her from New Mexico without the device.

This is a great book; this is the fifth book in the Zoe Chambers Mystery series written by Annette Dashofy. A relaxing trail ride turns tragic when Paramedic and Deputy Coroner Zoe Chambers discovers the body of a popular county commissioner in her Pennsylvania woods. Inconsistencies surround the horrible “accident,” but before she can investigate further, she’s pried away by a plea for help from her best friend whose son has been deemed a person of interest in a homicide over a thousand miles away. When he vanishes without a trace, his mother begs Zoe to help clear him and bring him safely home. The task takes Zoe out of her comfort zone in a frantic trip to the desolate canyons and bluffs of New Mexico where she joins forces with the missing boy’s sister and a mysterious young Navajo. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great authors. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

This is the second book in this series that I've read and I enjoyed it a lot. No Way Home sees a rash of teen drug deaths in Zoe's home town, the death of a popular town commissioner and the disappearance of Zoe's best friend's son in New Mexico - which sends Zoe out of her comfort zone and across the country to try and help find him.

The plot is interesting and well thought out - although like the other Zoe Chambers I read, a lot of the drama centres on Zoe's best friend's family, which could get a little wearing if this is the case in every book. However, as it's book 5, it may be that there's been no drama for Rose's family since*. But it's Clever, well plotted, with an interesting and rounded cast of charactes and makes good use of it's locations. It is not as cozy as a lot of Henery's other titles, but I almost like it more for that - and it never ventures into real gritty territory.

I'd happily read more of these.

*Although there's a few bits that mean I suspect that there has been.

An excellent mystery from Annette Dashofy!!! This is a change from earlier books in the ZoeChambers/Pete Adams series because the action moves back and forth between Pennsylvania and New Mexico. Dashofy expertly balances the transitions between both points of view and locations to keep the reader engaged instead of frustrated. New developments in the relationship between the two main characters add spice, as well. Illegal drugs, environmental threats, and family dynamics are just a few of the discussion topics for book discussion groups. I can hardly wait for Zoe and Pete's next adventure! Thanks to Hennery Press and NetGalley for providing access to the eARC.

No Way Home is wonderful! I absolutely loved it. This fifth book in an awesome series brings great mystery, fantastic adventure, witty humor, and just a touch of sweet romance and real danger together into the perfect blend. No Way Home maintains the outstanding quality of writing and the heart touching characters of each of the earlier books. Fan of Annette Dashofy’s Zoe Chamber Mysteries have been anxiously awaiting No Way Home and they will be thrilled with the book. New readers are sure to love it almost as much as those of us already attached to the main characters.

There are characters, bits of knowledge, and attitudes that carry over, but beyond those the only thing that does not come as a surprise is the outstanding quality of Ms. Dashofy’s writing. If you are new to the series, you will be able to track the story with no problem although previous books build a background of the characters that new fans will discover full blown in this one. Most of those details will not detract from your reading pleasure when you go back to catch up, as you are sure to do.

Contemporary cozy mysteries or lighter mysteries like this one bring the reader the comforts of a cozy: strong characters to love, sweet romance, great relationships, and humor but to that is added a few twists. The depth of the relationships seem stronger, life is easy for the heroine, the readers emotions may be touched more deeply. Make no mistake, these stores are real mysteries and the characters have to be intelligent to survive the dangers. The plot is thoughfully laid out and the characters are draw with smooth details that are built into the story.

Zoe finds the body of a friend that turns out to be murder, but there are questions about several facets of the death that don’t make sense even for a murder. She is excited to be able to us her position as deputy chief coroner to participate in the investigation. That excitement is soon quashed when the danger of someone close to her pulls her across the country and into a world that is alien and where she feels helpless. Not a feeling she is used to nor one that she likes. I am already looking forward the the next book in the Zoe Chambers Mysteries series! Oh what an adventure Zoe and her followers have in store for them. It is a great book with fast paced action and danger that almost too my breath away at time.

I requested and received an advanced readers copy of this book via NetGalley. But I loved it so much I pre -ordered a personal copy. The review is completely voluntary. I always review books that I love and I absolutely loved No Way Home!

Action-packed cozy. The events take place in Pennsylvania and New Mexico. I agree with Zoe about New Mexico...Wow! I am eager to read #6. Great series!

This is such an amazing book! To quote Zoe, "Wow."

There's so much going on, within the pages.
• Who killed the County Commissioner (and made it look like an accident)?
• Who's behind the increasing drug trade, now including meth, in Vance Township, PA? There's been an epidemic of OD deaths.
• What's happened to Logan (the son of Zoe's BFF Rose)? He's been living with his girlfriend and her parents in New Mexico, but she and Logan have disappeared.

Zoe goes with her BFF Rose to New Mexico, to search for Logan, while Pete (Vance Township Police Chief, and BF) is kept busy at home, with the murders and drug investigations.

There are many plot twists along the way, before everything comes together in the end in a very exciting climax — twice!

As always with Author Annette Dashofy's books, I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series!

Zoe is going on a ride with clients using her horses. When everyone gets saddled up and ready to go, a horse comes back to the stables, riderless. She cancels the ride and goes out to find the rider. She finds him, dead.

Henery Press and Net Galley let me read this book for review (thank you). It will be published March 14th.

Zoe feels an obligation to help with the investigation because the man died in her woods. He's an important person in the fight over fracking. Might that have been the reason he died? After all, he'd been shot, not just injured in a fall from the horse. She's looking forward to working with Pete, the local police chief and her boyfriend. But she gets involved with a friend whose son is missing. He had gone to New Mexico to stay with his girlfriend's parents but both he and he and she had been missing for days. When they find her dead body, it's almost like the boy must be dead, too. Rose refuses to give up hope and takes Zoe with her to New Mexico to try to get some answers. With Pete home in Pennsylvania trying to solve his murder, Zoe is on her own.

With public meetings and arguments over fracking, a new drug problem in town and a murder with hundreds of suspects, Pete's plenty busy.

Zoe is trying to find some hope that Logan is still alive. His sister Allison says she can find out, so they arrange to slip away together and go to talk to someone who has information. It turns out that someone is an Indian. He says he's safe but he won't tell them where he is. They finally convince him to show them Logan. He takes them out in the boonies and they find Logan alive and haunted by the killing of his girlfriend.

The murder here ties to the drug problems at home. Wolf is a very dangerous drug dealer who'll kill anyone in his way. Logan wouldn't transport drugs so he killed Logan's girlfriend to convince him he should. Then he left him for dead.

Trying to hide is no good; they find him and Zoe. The cat and mouse chase scene is intense. So is the ending. I'd read more in this series. It's written well and keeps your attention riveted. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
