Death by Pumpkin by N. A. Granger.
This is book 3 in the Rhe Brewster series. I really enjoyed this book. Great story and characters apart from the killer. I hope there is more to come. 4*.

First book, I've read in this series and I loved it. Solid mystery and wonderful character development it as something or someone that any reader can relate with best part you can pick up in the middle of the series and not feel lost . Can't wait for the next installment.

What a perfectly wonderful cozy mystery. This is the 2nd book ( I stand corrected, this is book 3) in the Rhe Brewster Mysteries series and I found it delightful. I didn't read book 1 but had no problems getting into this story. I'll be reading Death in a Red Canvas Chair and Death by Dacron Sail very soon. Rhe is a nurse and is raising her son alone since her husband was murdered 4 months ago. She is good friends with her brother in law, Sam and helps with a new series of crimes in their small Maine town. The mystery is well written and even though they figure out the criminal early on the story doesn't stop being suspenseful and intriguing.

A thrilling mystery that will leave you on the edge of your seat. It features a strong, intelligent lead character and a beautiful Maine setting. I was hooked from the very first page to the last, following the many plot twists and turns. I highly recommend this book.

This was my first Rhe Brewster mystery, and I enjoyed it very much. It's a great cozy mystery with an interesting setting throughout the state of Maine. Death by Pumpkin opens in Pequod, Maine as Rhe takes her son to the annual pumpkin drop from a crane onto a old car. When the pumpkin falls, Rhe, an ER nurse and a part-time police consultant, realizes there was a body in the car.

She starts investigating with her ex brother-in-law Sam, the chief of police, and the man she has a secret crush on. The investigation threatens her life at the same time there is a recall election for Sam. Rhe wants to solve the crime and make sure Sam gets reelected, all while keeping herself and her son safe.

The plot was interesting. You basically knew who the murderer was early on in the book, but it was a journey finding out how and why he murdered someone. I loved the interaction of Rhe and her son, and her friends. Pequod felt like a tight knit place you'd want to move to. The characters were well-drawn and interesting, and never felt forced.

I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. I will be reading the other books in the series and hope to read her future books as well.

I admit to feeling confused after finishing this book. It's supposed to be a cozy mystery, but the killer is identified less than a quarter of the way into the book. From there, it stretches into a long, unrealistic series of events culminating in a just ending for the killer. I like Rhe Brewster as a character, but there is not enough tension and even less mystery in this story. I haven't read either of the two previous Rhe Brewster mysteries, and this title works fine as a stand-alone book. To me, it just shouldn't be called a mystery.

I received a free copy of this e-book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third book in a series but it stands well on its own as I have not read the first 2 and could easily follow the story. Rhe is a widow and an nurse on the ER but also an consultant for the police. Her brother-in-law is the police chief, Sam. After a murder (yes, involving the pumpkin...) Rhe gets sleuthing .... I thought this was a great story and I enjoyed it very much. I will be on the lookout for the next (and go back to read the first 2!)

Review of DEATH BY PUMPKIN
by N. Granger

An entertaining and highly intriguing Maine cozy, DEATH BY PUMPKIN is third in a series. Imaginative in premise, this mystery begins with a bang and strongly hooks the reader, and enwraps us with the characters and storyline. Rhe Brewster is an ER nurse, mother of an ADHD son, widow, and sister-in-law of the police chief of her community. She is also a part-time police consultant. The author warmly endears the characters, as murder rears its very ugly head (even though it's performed creatively), and emotions run high (and for some, even higher). DEATH BY PUMPKIN is a mystery delineating the adage “Keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer.” I'll definitely be looking to review other mysteries in the Rhe Brewster series.

I've never read anything by this author, however, I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
The protagonist is a great character and I liked getting to know her.
Someone is out to get Rhe Brewster and won't stop until the job is done.
Working as an ER Nurse and a consultant for the police department, Rhe has seen her share of scary stuff.
When the tables are turned and Rhe is the target, she will stop at nothing to get the bad guy.
