I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book

This is the second book that I have read in this series and it is definitely my favorite. I loved Stieg and Erin together because he was so calm until you cross him the wrong way and she was so shockingly funny and somehow angered everyone around her. It was like they somehow balanced each other and created this power couple...well if they ever admit they want each other!

Overall a great book, it has action, laughs, suspense, and some very hot and steamy moments. Great job Shelly this actually made me want to go back and read about my favorite shifters that you have created in the past...I may start with my besties in my mind Gwen and Blayne and maybe my favorite little honey badger!

There isn't much I don't like about this series.

There isn't much I didn't love about this book.

Erin Amsel totally delivered. She is hands down my fav heroine thus far.

The Crows are an hilarious ensemble cast.

Also, super cool to see the flashback to the clans kind of origins.

Awesome, awesome novel!

More sex- but aside from that- muy bueno!

In The Unyielding, we are out to destroy Gullveig who is about to bring on Ragnorak, or the end of the world. After the happenings in The Undoing, we have a War General who has been working along with the other eight clans to find a way to stop her. Unfortunately, there is only one answer, and that answer is Erin Amsel. A special sword is needed to kill Gullveig, and the only one with the fire power to retrieve that sword is Erin. Steig, a Raven sent to watch over Erin to make sure she doesn’t do something stupid before the big trip, starts to get a little attached to the spitfire Erin. Thanks to a little maneuvering from a tricky god, Steig ends up on the big trip with Erin so the two are on the adventure together.

Erin is… I don’t know how you would put it. You could call her mean, but she’s just too damn funny. But then I feel sort of like the friends of the mean, bully girl at school where you laugh at all the mean stuff she does. Erin just can’t stop herself from insulting or hurting other people. For fun. She enjoys every minute of it. All of us that have read the series know what she was like when Kera joined the Crows in The Unleashing. Boy, you do NOT want to be on her bad side. But even on her good side, you need to have thick skin, because she’s not going to be nice. But still, the things she comes up with are so damn funny.

Poor Steig is one of the Ravens and everyone seems to think of him as “poor Steig”. When they find out that Erin has slept with him, everyone is full of sympathy for him. Erin doesn’t understand why, but plays along. Steig is a great character. I think Ravens are supposed to be mean and violent. Kind of like the male equivalent to Crows, but we get to see a side to him that shows that he has a softer side. How he is with his pet Hilda for example nearly made me die of laughter. It was just the picture in my head.

Erin and Steig’s adventure to retrieve the sword is full of surprise obstacles. You don’t really see anymore romance blossoming during the trip than was there before they left. The trip is all about fighting their way to the sword. I was kind of surprised by the dragon. I didn’t think there would be any conversation in that scene, but it turned out there was and it was in perfect Erin style that she communicates with him.

I had a great time with The Unyielding! The action was amazing and the laughs are what I had come to expect from this crowd of Vikings. This book combined all my favorite aspects of a book. The action, adventure, romance and laughs. It was all there to keep me enthralled from start to finish. I don’t know if Call of Crows was meant to be a trilogy or if we are to expect more. The ending here seemed kind of final. Maybe someone knows and will let me know in the comments. I still get confused with all the gods and their roles, so I would like to read some books on Norse mythology to maybe understand them a bit better. However, The Unyielding was still an amazing and fun read and I can’t recommend it, or the Call of Crows series enough!

I absolutely adore everything Shelly Laurenston writes and the Call of Crows series id no exception.

The Call of Crows world is filled with mythology and the characters are based on it. There is a war coming, from an imprisoned Goddess who thinks our world should bow down to her.

The humans Viking clans that serve the Gods need to come together to fight this Goddess and her allies. But, how are they going to do that if they hate each other?

In The Unyielding we get the story of Stieg Engstrom, a Viking, and Erin Amsel, a Crow. I love the way Laurenston writes her characters. They are never one dimensional and are always able to hold the readers interest, not mention that they are extremely entertaining.

I don't want to spoil The Unyielding, since SO much happens, but I can say that I could not stop reading it for a second, that's how awesome this book is!

If you have yet to check out the Call of Crows series, I totally recommend you do it, NOW! No, you don't need to have read books #1 and #2 to enjoy The Unyielding, however I think it will just make the experience a whole lot better for you.

I can't wait for more Call of Crows!

Fabulous ending to the trilogy - all the loose ends get tied up. I really loved that Erin kicked ass because she was unapologetically herself. YES PLEASE!

If you like funny, snarky characters, this author is for you. Characters are again trying to stop the end of the world -- but they are having fun doing it. Fantastic enjoyable read..

Do you like any of the following in your books?

Humor
Twist-on-a-tale
Shapeshifters
Norse mythology
Inhuman badassery
Fire
Romance

Then if you aren't reading Shelly Laurenston, you need to start immediately. Go right now. This review will wait for you.

Laurenston has another gem on her hands. The humor leaves me laughing and strangers staring at me, the action and bloodshed are extensive, the sex scenes are (*fans self*) hawt, and the romance is somehow still heart-fluttering even amidst the insults, bleeding, burning... general hell surrounding it. She has set up another good pair. Erin Amsel has always been an entertaining character, but she's admirable in this one. But still reckless, infuriating, and starting shit? Oh yes.

Our usual crew was boisterous as always, but it was also exciting to see shifters interwoven in this story. I don't want to give too much away about how they tie into all this, but I have to say their presence in the story left me giddy thinking about what might come next.

My only complaint is that I would like to see some prominent, openly queer characters. Let me be clear, I've never felt that the main characters or the story were homophobic. There is a specific character that I'm hoping will be revealed to be gay, though I'm not expecting it.

I'm not asking for a whole book about a queer couple either (though that would be amazing), but just for visibility in the story. It's getting ridiculous how many characters there are, and still, none of them seem to be LGBT+. That's statistically improbable.

I will say if you haven't read any of the other books in this series then What is wrong with you? *Ahem* I mean, don't start with this one. There is background information, and you can probably keep up enough with the story, but I don't think it can be appreciated as well as it should be without reading the first two books in this series. If you have read the other two, look forward to more fun times.

The Unyielding by Shelly Laurenston is the third book in the Call of Crows series. This is my first time reading this series, so yes I did have a tiny very tiny bit of confusion. I like that things are explained very well, so even someone like me just joining this series can get the main idea of what is going on just fine.
I love also the style of writing Ms. Laurenston has. There is always a bit of humor, action, and tons of love inside her stories.
This one has a very strong independent heroine. I like a woman who is both strong but has a softness to her that makes her relatable to me. Erin and her sister Crows had to stop Ragnarok and the end of days. Erin is very good at finding trouble. She usually goes looking for it. She manages to get shot, knifed, and many other injuries along the way. Good thing she cannot die from these. She doesn't know when to say when. She is willing to take on the bad guys all by herself.
Stieg has the job of looking out for Erin. He considers her to be frustrating, huge pain in his behind, not to mention rude. Following her seems like a waist of time at first. But the more he gets to know Erin the more he starts to understand her and fall for her. He is a warrior in his own right, so these two together were fun to watch. Both strong and independent people. I liked that also made them need each other. They are stronger together.
Over all there is a lot going on in this book. Some again was lost on me, but I think true fans will love! I cannot wait to go and see the books I missed because this book is that amazing. When you want some action, adventure, and paranormal elements this is the book to pick up.

Shelly Laurenston's third Call of Crows is back with a bang. Once again we're thrown into the world of Viking Clans with crows, ravens, owls, Norse gods, and all the lot as the world is once again on the brink of Ragnarök. Laurenston has a special brand of snark that she brings to all of her stories and this book is no exception. The fact that Erin Amsel, the most aggravating and sarcastic Crow to ever exist makes this a very interesting and fun read. Add in the brooding Raven Stieg Engstrom and it just gets better. I would not have said it before this book but I think Stieg might be my favorite hero from this series. He had so much hidden, even from his Raven brothers, and so much more depth than I imagined. Watching these two battle it out, and find a level ground with each other was very enjoyable. I can't wait to see what Laurenston delivers next.

Erin Amsel loves being a warrior for the goddess Skuld. Although her unrestrained sarcasm and general mouthiness often land Erin in trouble she knows that she always has her sister Crows at her back. That's about to change though as fate is about to pull her into the battle for the world and she's not going to have much to rely on but the mysterious Stieg Engstrom. Though he's often irritated with her, suddenly Steig is everywhere Erin is and he's doing a fine job of getting her out of trouble as soon as she gets into it. With the fate of the world on the line Erin and Steig are going to have to work with each other to save their fellow warriors and the world as they know it...if they don't kill each other first.

Steig is the Angriest Viking ever he also hates Erin. He is tasked with watching over her leaving him wondering what kind of trouble she could possibly get into. Turns out A LOT! Its a good thing you can't die the same way twice when you are a Crow.

Their enemy is getting close to coming back to Earth and they have to come up with a way to prevent that from happening. The crows find out that the only way for them to survive is a sword and they have to depend on Erin to get it. Steig and Erin must fight shoulder to shoulder in order to save themselves and Earth. But... can they do it without touching each other?

Like always Shelly Laurenston wrote a great book. These characters are always entertaining and a bit on the unpredictable side. I couldn't put this book down especially at the end. I'm glad these two characters were able to work out their differences. And who would ever think to have a pet goat? Great read!

I am in love with Shelly Laurenston and her Crow series. It is funny and adventurous all at the same time. Erin is a Crow with a wicked sense of humor but a strong sense of honor, you don't screw with her Crows. She is entrusted with a task to save the world.. While she is the last person anyone expected to sacrifice herself for the greater good, she does it with style and her special flare. If it is facing off a God, or crossing into unmentionable realms or outwitting a dragon, she does it with Stieg, a Protector by her side. For some reason Stieg feels compelled to help the crazy Crow. Hopefully it won't be the last thing he does. Read it. Laugh. Enjoy.

In the third book of the Call of Crows series we have the final battle with the unstoppable goddess trying to bring forth Ragnarok aka the end of the world. But, there may still be a chance for the clans to prevent it, and kill the unkillable. It all relies on Erin Amsel, which is almost as terrifying as Ragnarok itself. Erin is a troublemaker, there isn’t a single deity she’s met who she hasn’t pissed off in some way. Yet her fearlessness and cunning is exactly what they need, especially when paired up with the perpetually angry Stieg Engstrom. What could go wrong?

I am writing this review with a tonne of bias weighing me down, I have been reading Laurenston for years. I first picked her up when she released the Magnus Pack series, which was a breath of fresh air in the Paranormal Romance genre. However, that was decade ago (quite literally!) and her writing and characters have become less fresh with each regurgitation. When I read The Unyielding I felt like I could anticipate the jokes, the characters and the general storyline after the first chapter, and I was right. This is why I am bias, if this was another author I would have liked this book more as perhaps I wouldn’t have found it quite so boringly predicable. But for me it was the same jokes and same type of characters that I have been reading from Laurenston for years.

But, I still gave this a respectable 3.5 stars because as much as I found it a little predicable this is still Laurenston, and does know how to write an engaging book. This book is fairly light on romance, although it is an element, instead this concentrates on the story line and getting the sword from the magical realm to destroy the big bad goddess. Yes, it sounds trite but it’s actually quite exciting when you are reading it. Erin and Steig make the adventure a lot of fun; Steig’s stoic nature is a perfect foil for Erin’s wildness, both in their romance and how it ties in with the quest.

If you like your romance heavy on adventure and humour this book is for you, despite my earlier whinging Laurenston is a quality author who produces some great books. If you haven’t read Laurenston before, I recommend you try the Magnus Pack series I mentioned earlier first. It doesn’t really tie in with this series, but it’s just a great paranormal romance!

I've been eagerly anticipating this next book in the Call of Crows series, because Erin has always been one of my favorite characters. She's a total dick to everyone, and I just can't help but love her. This story was just as snarky and sarcastic as I was expecting, but it was also completely action-packed and even had a few sweet moments in there as well. To say this book was the full-package is an understatement, because I couldn't put it down!

Shelly is one of my favorite authors when it comes to paranormal romance, because the girl can write! Her books are always character driven, but the plots are also complex and thoroughly entertaining. Let's just say she sets the bar pretty high. Overall, I loved this book pretty hard, so I STRONGLY suggest it for all you paranormal romance readers out there.

This is a great new installment of an excellent series. The humor kept a dark subject matter from being too dark. I laughed a lot for a book about the coming of Armageddon. Laurenston has a gift for engaging characters and dialogue that keeps readers coming back.

The Unyielding is a fabulous addition to Ms Laurenston's Call of Crows series and wraps up some pretty important elements of the series to date.

A master of the written word, this author rarely fails in providing interesting, gripping and entertaining reading.

The Unyielding (Call Of Crows) is a fast-paced, roller coaster of a ride! Erin is a Crow, and can piss anyone off in just a few minutes. Each Crow has a special ability, and she has the ability of fire. She must team up with Stieg to get a sword to help stop Ragnarok from happening. Erin can even piss of the Gods with her annoying, snarky attitude. I love her!! Steig is a hunky Raven who is told to watch her back. Oh! Did I mention that a Dragon has the sword. This book will have you rolling on the floor with laughter. These two have so much chemistry between them that it is a wonder that they don't go up in flames when they are around each other. I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next. I recommend this book and series to everyone. I give THE UNYIELDING 5/5 STARS.

Book three of Shelly Laurenston's The Call of Crow series, The Unyielding surprised the fuck out of me. Erin in the previous books was a pain in that ass, annoying and it just made you think, what the fuck is wrong with her! Well this one explains it, kind of, it really helps with understanding how her brain works and honestly as the main characters she's not as annoying as she was a side character. Half way through the book I started to view as her as a Harley Quinn type character, crazy as fuck but everyone still love her (but with way more of a temper and a non-existent fuse). Steig is the strong silent type, my favorite, a difficult and tough childhood but ultimately a viking through and through. His rough demeanor gives him a very intimidating look and a don't fuck with me attitude but really the guy has a soft spot for animals, just ask Hilda the goat. Erin is oblivious enough to not notice his feelings for her or even her feelings for him for that matter.

This book was wow, it was a rollercoaster ride from the start. So much happens I couldn't even possibly begin to try and sum it up in a couple of paragraphs without rambling on and giving away the whole book. It can work as a stand-alone but I really wouldn't recommend it to much of what has happened is important. But the journey up until now has been been fighting to prevent Ragnarok, too late, and now all the other faiths are telling them, "It's your fuck up you fix it". Everyone has been working to find out how to stop Gullveig, and after all their research they discovered only one way to do it and only one of them can do it, the craziest of them all Erin. Meanwhile Erin has a theory on who the high priestess for Gullveig is and with the help of an unlikely partner, the Raven Stieg. Stieg found Erin attractive from the beginning but her abrasive personality was off-putting. But trouble seems to find Erin no matter where she goes and Steig is determined to stick close by and protect her from her enemies and from herself. It's up to them to save the world.

Overall, Outstanding! my favorite so far.

Those crazy Crows are back! Humans are in danger of being wiped out of existence and Erin Amsel is going to have to work with Stieg Engstrom, aka the Angriest Viking Ever to stop that from happening. Soon the feathers start to fly and what follows is another outrageous, non-stop rollercoaster of a story that can tickle almost anyone’s funny bone.

I love Laurenston’s style of creating a serious backdrop and inserting crazy, cantankerous, snarky characters into it and basically letting them run wild until a solution to the conflict is stumbled upon. Erin is known as the insane Crow and that’s saying a lot because these females give the word a new definition. Anyway, Erin shows no fear when faced with dangerous situations and has ADHD tendencies which naturally makes her perfect *sarcasm* for Stieg, a really adorable, grumpy Raven. These two bickered so much it would have been annoying if they weren’t so funny together. I found myself having a soft spot for Stieg because he had a soft spot for animals and I just can’t resist a big, strong guy who could be so sweet to an animal. Erin had the stronger personality between them though and because of that Stieg seemed a bit more shy and reserved to me but hey, SOMEONE had to balance out that woman’s special brand of crazy!

There’s a lot going on in The Unyielding and a lot is connected to the previous books so while each book can technically be read as a standalone I would recommend reading them in order. The action and butt kicking scenes are superb and as I’ve come to expect from Laurenston, they’re addictive and really give her books that “Epic Adventures Ahead” kind of feel that I keep coming back for. I will say that if you’re looking for a more romance based book then this is not it. None of the books in the series are heavy on the romance, they focus more on the bigger plot connecting them but that’s okay, I actually don’t mind that because the writing is just so fun and well paced that I don’t really feel the absence of a heavy romance plot.

Laurenston’s style isn’t for everyone. Sometimes the female characters can and do get annoying but it’s not enough to deter me from enjoying them because while they can get a bit aggravating, these women are never weak, and they are never unable to fight their own fights. For that, I can overlook a bit of the crazy that surrounds them.

I love Shelly Laurenston. I don't think I can ever say that enough. Her writing is beyond perfection and no I am not one of her street team or whatever the equivalent team of bloggers she has but I just fucking love her. There isn't a single book I have read of hers or G.A Aiken that I haven't absolutely loved.

This book was fantastic. I love Erin. I have loved her since the first book but I loved that she got her own book. And Steig.. hahah I loved him to. I basically just love everyone okay. But seriously these characters are all so fantastic!

This book was kind of intense and the world depends all on Erin... which has everyone kind of well terrified. And Steig tags along and helps her out.

This book was hilarious and sweet in a dick-ish sort of way. I don't think there is another person in the universe that could have put up with Erin the way the Steig did.

Review: THE UNYIELDING (Call Of Crows) by Shelly Laurenston

I truly enjoyed this installment in the Call of Crows! The rapid-fire dialogue and action was so much fun. I wasn’t sure I would warm up to Erin at first, but she is a hoot! She vocalized all those little responses that most of us keep in our heads. Thankfully she had Stieg to keep her in line….right…poor guy had his hands full. There wasn’t a lot of romance going on, but it didn’t matter. It was a fun fast ride that I hated to see end. Laurenston sure has a way with the pithy comments and entertaining action.
