One of the things I love about Shelly Laurenston's books is the snarky heroines. Erin Amsel is snarky and she doesn't care if she offends anyone. Whether they are a friend or an enemy, no one is safe from her mouth. When it comes to Erin, Stieg is perfect for her. He is laid back about the things she says and does and sometimes acts as a buffer.

The third in the Call of Crows is no less action-packed, humor-filled and all around entertaining than the two first was.
I will say that I had a very hard time with the first 25% of the book. The sheer amount of new characters along with changes in POV had me scrambling to keep up. But true to Laurenston legacy, the storyline soon enthralled me and Stieg, Erin and Hilda had me howling with laughter.
If you haven't read the first two books in the series I wouldn't recommend you read this. Due to the previously mentioned number of characters, it WILL be near impossible to grasp the subtle (and not so subtle) hints that continuously drops.
I love this author and I am interested in seeing how this series will unfold.

This series is the BEST!!! This book is a rocket ride that will have you busting your gut laughing one moment and peeking through your fingers the next. Erin Amsel may be my favorite character EVER. She has absolutely no filter whatsoever so you always know where you stand. Her sense of humor floored me. Now put her together with stoic Stieg Engstrom, Angriest Viking Ever and watch as he is put in the position of being the sane one as he and Erin are off to save the world.

Stieg Engstrom, one of Odin’s Ravens, has begrudgingly agreed to help Erin Amsel, one of Skuld’s Crows, in a task that she’s keeping from her Crow sisters. Erin is the Crow that drives everyone absolutely nuts. Her ADHD is enough drive anyone insane. So why is she tasked with preventing Ragnarok?
This book was great! I’m typically one of those that holds mythology as sacrilege and tend to not like many of the stories where authors use the characters, but this author writes characters with such personalities that the mythological side kind of takes a back seat and doesn’t bother me. I’ve liked Erin’s character in the other books of this series, so I was happy to be reading her story. I really liked everything about her. I also liked watching Stieg as he deals with her craziness as the story progresses. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend.

overall another good paranormal by Ms. Laurenston. Good solid plot and writing.

This phenomenal series just keeps getting better and better! Stieg and Erin were perfect anti-matches for each other. Serious and broody meets batshit crazy! I had so much fun following these two. Great adventures, ridiculous scenarios, witty banter and serious sparks. I'd been waiting for Erin's story, and was NOT disappointed!

Ms. Laurenston takes the basically unlikable character of Erin Amsel, who was introduced in the previous "Call of Crows" books, and turns her into a heroine of truly epic standing! That is an awesome skill proving that, once again, she is a very talented storyteller. Whether writing as G. A. Aiden or Shelly Laurenston, she always provides an enjoyable read.

Kickass women, badass Vikings, evil elves, snarky gods, stinky dragons, surprise shifters, and the most twisted Norse mythology-verse ever. I loved just about every page of this gore, sarcasm and action-packed ode to profane, tough women being friends and saving the world.
This really isn't a true romance brewing between Erin and Stieg because they are too busy wreaking destruction while trying to survive the most heinous journey to save the world. Call them fuck buddies on the worst road trip ever. But what is awesome is that Erin and Stieg never change, not one iota. They remain true to themselves, Erin "Unabashed Dick" Amstel and Stieg "Angriest Viking Ever" Engstrom, and to each other. And everyone else is just along for the bloody ride.
If the next installment of the Crows series is about the actual end of the world and Shelly Laurenston is writing it, then I'm positive it will be the most hilarious, snark-filled Ragnarok ever.
4.5 stars

Laurenston is back with the next instalment in the Call of Crows series. For those of you familiar with Laurenston's books, you will not be surprised here. Erin Amsel is an instigator. A lot of Laurenston's heroines are instigators but Erin is one of the best at it, often with the catch cry of 'She started it' which just makes things worse.
Steig Engstrom is a Raven, one of the 9 Viking Clans that are favoured of the viking gods and although the blurb says he is the angriest of angry vikings there wasn't a lot of anger here, just loyalty and a funny devotion.
I enjoyed the story, the quest, the romance and the characters. The overarching story arc beginning in the first book was nicely concluded here and there were many laugh out loud moments, as is usual in this author's books. I loved it.

Yes, it’s not releasing until end of March and yes I have already read it because I couldn’t wait another second for my Crow fix. I’m an unapologetic book whore.
The Good, The Bad, and Everything In Between
-My happy (Viking) place. The story arc finally comes to a head...heh. It’s been building and it’s finally here - the Nine Clans vs Gullveig, the crazy golden goddess who basically wants to shred our reality into confetti and bring about Ragnarok. You know, the usual apocalypse type thing. Only Erin Amsel, our resident Crow most likely to die by GSW to the head while saying “she/he/they started it,” can save the world. Her straight man, er I mean, companion on this journey is Stieg Engstrom, a Raven with a hard scrabble past and a deep affection for goats. Yep, it’s that kind of story. *blinks* I don’t mean he *loves* goats, he just sleeps with them. In a friend... *frowns* you know what, screw it, it’s not that pervy, get your heads out of the gutter, people! Anyway, there are alot of scenes showcasing many of the characters that we’ve met throughout this series, so pay attention because there are ALOT. Full enjoyment is had if you read from the beginning.
-The humor. This paranormal/urban fantasy series has been a hoot from beginning to end, with a big dependence on Norse mythology and alot of smartass banter. The interaction between Erin and pretty much everyone had me snort-laughing like a madwoman. I could pull quote after quote, but in the interest of keeping as spoiler-free as possible, I’ll just say that the humor can be gleefully raunchy and pulls as few punches as the Crows do. If this isn’t your gig, well, it’s definitely mine.
-Romance is secondary to Ragnarok. While Erin is a woman after my smartass heart and Stieg can handle her brand of insanity, but I have to say that this series in general hasn’t been about the individual romances. Now, I’m a total romance geek, so of course I want more. Yes, I’m hella-greedy. But I can’t always get what I want. Instead, Shelly gave me what I need, which is a great story that entertains the hell out of me. The romances still anchor each book and give the reader a nice sense of completion with each entry, but it’s about these characters working, fighting, fucking, laughing, (sometimes through blood sweat and tears) and serving their gods while protecting the Unknowing (that would be us regular folk without powers or cool wings).
-That last paragraph. That last bit where things are about to go HAM, would aggravate me if this was a true cliffy but it’s not. There’s a good resolution to all, and I’m not anxious and annoyed. I’m here for it.
The Bottom Line (5 stars)
I looooved it. If you like paranormal/urban fantasy (and perhaps are into the TV series Vikings), I encourage you to check out these books. Based on the same Norse mythology but set in modern day LA, it's got a solid overarching storyline, very funny dialogue, it's action-packed and with a standalone romance for each entry. I want more Crows, and Ravens and Protectors, oh my.

This is the story of Erin and Stieg, Jackie the Man, the stripper, rotting corpses, naughty elves, upperclass dragons, snobby shifters and most importantly Ragnarök. Filled with non stop action, humor, horrific things, guffawing moments, adventure, chunky love and distant shores.
Erin is the gentle, giving, quiet redhead crow that everyone loves and adores. She has charmed the world with her wit and kindness. hahahahahahahahaha, Okay she is the most disliked, CURVY, untrusted crow, the snarliest, snarky foul mouthed, in your face, thorn twisting in your side, crazy flaming, man using, spiky, infuriating, nut job you’ll meet and you’ll love her. I adore her and I’m sorry about throwing curvy in there. Read the book you’ll understand.
Stieg, the Raven, is quiet, serene, a babe in the woods, until Erin. Okay he’s a big Viking, a big grumpy, ah angry beast of a man. He is also loyal, sexy, strong, and laugh out loud funny in that quiet honest way that makes my knees wobble.
There where two beasties that were brought front and center in the story that I loved.Who doesn’t love a goat ? Hilda will charm the goat hater out of you. I think she may be the funniest goat character I’ve read. I may want a goat now.
Nidhogg, was my favorite new beastie. He is the big bad horrible nasty stinky dragon who made me want to get a "I love Nidhogg" T-shirt and fan button from the Norse bookstore. The twist the author gave him when he spoke had me chuckling and hearing a TV personality in my head. No, I don’t want a Nidhogg.
This is the third book in the series and I think the best so far. Each new book just seems to one up the fun factor for this reader. I will re-read it in audiobook format along with the first 2 while I wait for book 4 !

I know everyone is getting tired of me raving about Shelly Laurenston, but tough, she is awesome. I love her writing and I love this book. Erin has been a favorite of mine since she stared terrorizing Kera in The Unleashing. Erin is annoying, aggravating, and awesome. Anyone who can drive someone crazy in under a minute, how great is that? And to pair her with Stieg - still better yet. Throw in a goat - crazy, fast-paced story ahead.
The set-up is that Ragnarök is coming and Erin is the only one who has the slightest chance of stopping it. Stieg is assigned to guard and protect Erin in the hope that she can stop the end of the world, and Stieg can stop Erin from getting ended. And, of course, romance ensues.
Stieg and Erin work. He is quiet and "mean" enough to deal with our lovely Erin, who is basically a dick. She totally is, and enjoys every minute of it. Although the only reason she messes with people is of course, because everyone else "starts it".
This is a fast-paced story with interesting characters and continual action. The series keeps getting better and better and I anxiously await the next book. Thank you Ms. Laurenston for a wonderful, entertaining read.

So far, I have read all shelly Laurenston Call of Crows series. I’ve must say that Unyielding was the funniest of them all. Only Erin Amsel could make getting shot a funny thing. But after a while, even Erin started to take it personally. Now with the world in the danger of being obliterated, it’s up to Erin to save it. But she would not be alone because Stieg has the honor of protecting this insane woman on this danger mission.
I think what made this book so entertaining was the banter between Stieg and Erin. Same of the conversations that they have were some of the funniest yet.
So if you’re in a bum mood try picking up a copy of Unyielding this book will definitely brighten up your day.

Erin Amsel is on a mission, as a Crow she is sworn to protect and right now she is tackling her mission alone instead of getting her sisters involved. After she gets herself shot in the head again, she tells Stieg Engstrom she is crashing at his house and that they slept together, even though they didn't. Erin doesn't understand why everyone is in an uproar that she faux slept with Stieg, he is a Viking and Raven but everyone seems to think he is breakable.
Stieg doesn't want to be shadowing Erin, she drives him nuts and is unpredictable. However, he finds himself attracted to her and when she makes a move he doesn't know what to do. It doesn't help that Erin is the only one who can save the world and has people intent on killing her from all angles.
There is so so much more to the story and a goat that you come to adore. Erin was a bit over the top sometimes but you knew why she did it. Stieg was an awesome hero, he has a swagger that is unlike the other Ravens in the book. Has your favorite characters from book one and two. Laugh out loud funny and written in a way that you can imagine every scene in the book. High praise.

I like different Story plots, this one has a great one.
Interesting, intriguing, humorous, love the banter between characters especially Stieg and Erin.
Great drama,action,humor,and romance.
Love all the characters.
Really enjoyed reading.

Oh how I love Shelly Laurenston's writing. Laugh out loud dialogue! There is no skimming in her books. The Crows are one of my favorite series to read. The Unyielding is Erin's story and I have been waiting on her! She is hilarious !! Badass to the bone! Stieg is our Raven hero and you have to love the Raven's. The are so nonchalant.
The nine clans are trying to stop Gullveig and the start of Ragnarok. Erin is the chosen one to get a weapon to help and Stieg decides to follow her or was told to, however you look at it, LOL. It is a laugh out loud adventure that keeps you entertained throughout the entire book. I couldn't put it down. SL has a great talent in writing a story with such humor, I can't get enough of her books.
I look forward the next one. Highly recommended!!!

The third in Shelly Laurenston's Call of Crows series The Unyielding brings us the story of Erin and Stieg. Erin is a the Crow that loves causing chaos everywhere she goes and apologizes for nothing. Stieg can't stand the pain in the ass Crow and doesn't want to be around her more than he's forced to be, so he hates his new orders of having to watch over her. Erin is the only one that can save the world from crumbling down around them, which means Stieg needs to make sure the people she pisses off with her personality don't actually succeed in killing her.
Erin is kind of the bitch out of this group of girls, but that's why I loved her! She was so unapologetic about her personality and she never tried to change who she was for others. I really liked that she was such a strong characters and didn't give in to social-norms. I can't lie and say there weren't times that she got a little annoying, but that was the beauty of her character - you'll love to hate her.
Stieg was the quiet Viking and there were times that he came off a little shy but I think that was just because Erin's character was such a powerful one that his took a seat in the background sometimes. But I mean all of this in a good way because the two of them worked really well together and seeing the difference between them endeared me to Stieg even more. On the outside everyone thought he was the angry one, but we got to see a different side to him and I really liked that.
This is a series that I will highly recommend for anyone that likes a good Paranormal and other-worldy story. Ms. Laurenston perfectly brings you into a world that has Gods and Goddesses and leaves you no room to doubt that all of these creatures are real. Her writing has always been able to captivate me and I know it will continue to do so in the future so I can't wait to read more from this series.

Firstly, let me thank you for reading and reviewing this book from my most favorite author! This book continues the story with a thorough and exhausting travel through different worlds so the crazy and wacky heroine can save the world with her lover by her side. I love the sense of humor through this book, and the detail she brings to the fights, nothing light and fluffy about these books and just the right amount of "romance" sprinkled in. The only complaint I have is that I have to wait nearly another year before the next book is out ! Lucky G A Aiken has a book coming out soon ha ha. Enjoy this great read, you won't be disappointed.

Funny and boiling hot at the same time, and a unique take on Norse mythology this author gives us yet another awesome book and a Keeper for me!!
