In the spare, haunting voice of The Gun, The Boy in the Earth is a story of quiet desperation. The narrator struggles with the legacy of his dark past in which he was abandoned by his parents, abused and neglected by those who took him in before being put into the care of an orphanage. As a twenty-seven year old man, he is drifting still unable to come to grips with what his past and what it means to the life that he is living. Continually impelled to insert himself into dangerous situations, he constantly comes up against the question of his will to survive.
