The intriguing book synopsis and classy cover lured me in, folks. This “new to me” author kept me engaged, but I can’t help but wonder why it wasn’t wrapped up in one book. To me, it seems that could have easily been accomplished, since the paced slowed dramatically, and there was only one underlying main theme. The good news is you can now purchase one book with both parts included. The advanced reader copy I was gifted via NetGalley in exchange for a fair review only had Part I. So my version ended in an unwelcome cliffhanger. Be sure to take notice, if purchasing, you buy the version with both parts.

Nic, the loyal/alpha protective knight sent by the King Henry to marry Morgan, the heroine, was everything a true hero should be. Kind, brave, fearless, and no fool. He quickly saw right through Morgan’s disguise. Well, it’s a good thing he puts up with it, because I always have a credibility issue when a “dresses like a lad” beautiful heroine somehow tricks everyone into thinking she’s a guy, especially when she lops off her gorgeous locks. Yeah, I can’t see that as actually believable, folks. Good news for them, everyone else they came across wasn’t as bright.

Though this knight definitely had some knucklehead moments of his own, mainly later in the book. Not surprisingly, a huge rift develops between the main couple because of him keeping a secret from her everyone else knew and a last minute set-up deliberately done to create a jealous misunderstanding, as well. Yeah, nothing is more confusing that saying “I do” when you didn’t, folks. Are you confused? Well, good, that means I haven’t given away a pretty big spoiler.

There is sure to be loads of drama, danger, payback, and and villainous abuse in book 2. I’m just not sure I’m up for it, because, again, I wanted to wrap this up in one read. Based on this author’s published book list, it seems this may be her trend though. So love it or leave, it’s what you get when you sign up to read The McKinnon series. Again, at least she makes available versions with both parts included. I honestly don’t know why she would bother publishing both types.

Also, I’m not sure exactly how but it appears her McKinnon Legends series morphs into a time travel series. So you likely want to read the book synopsis of future sequels very closely to make sure that concept appeals to you.

Hallmark of a book I loved? Wondering when I can get my hands on the next book in the series!

This was a fun read with the period details to make it a historical romance story. I have a soft spot for tales in long ago England and this one was wonderful. Beyond the love story which is woven for you, there's plenty of tension with a villain as well.

This book wasn't terrible. It had an interesting plot twist in the form of the love story but forgettable at best.

Not your typical "damsel in distress" story.

I liked the story but found the writing lacking. At this point, I'm not sure whether I would read the next book to find out how the story of Morgan and Nic continues.

Nik is rewarded a bride from the King that he doesn't necessarily want. He finds the Duchess of Seabridge is in trouble and now must quest to keep her alive and his bride. This is part 1 of 2 part book. Enjoyed the setting and want to read the second book.
Ebook from Net Galley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own

England, 15th century. Morgan finds her whole family slaughtered by an uncle who uses her as his ward to be able to rule her earldom. Her father had obtained a charter that his daughter would be able to rule it on her own after her 23rd birthday in the event he would die. When he uncle asks permission of the king to marry his ward and is turned down and her birthday is approaching Morgan fears for her life and escapes the castle posing as a stable-hand. In the forests she stumbles upon Sir Nic not knowing that he is ordered by the king to marry her (women and castles being seen as a reward).

The story is very well written but unfortunately the writer did cut the book in two parts and I got only part one to write a review about. I do not understand that marketing concept.

Thrilling and exciting medieval adventure. Author showcases well the ups and downs of love due to our human failings. I particularly identify with Morgan, a woman living life as it comes to the best of her abilities.

This was a very good novel, well written as well! An author whose books I will continue to be looking for in the future. It had emotions and enough depth that I feel satisfied. Loved it!

Not a very good book for me. Too many implausible situations and annoying characters. The H was the only one I could like and even he did things that made little sense. Then the book ended with no HEA and no conclusion, like the book had been divided. Won't bother with it.

What happens next? I need to know if Morgan can claim her birthright, will Nic return , will they make their peace? So much more to enjoy. Bring it on.

Having not read part 2...I will say that this volume should not be split.

There is a way to end a book and leave a reader craving more story. This just leaves off in the middle of the plot, forcing you to acquire the other half to finish the main storyline.

I enjoyed the story & the majority of the characters. Lady Adele annoyed me the most, and she was never actually present! I will say that I'm looking forward to Ami's story if that ever happens.

The language and actions did not match up with the time period, but it is a time travel series, so maybe that comes into play later?

Good escapist fun, a good romance, but please note that it is only part one of a complete book. This book is perfect for summer reading, on the beach or garden light and airy. I will look out for the next part..
