A very interesting and thoughtful read that allowed the reader to look into some of the most famous scenarios that more than likely would have resulted in death.

This is a great read! Have you ever wanted to know how you would die from various weird things? Like eating as many cookies as Cookie Monster in one sitting? Or standing on the surface of the sun? Or being sucked into a black hole? The book is well researched and writen in such a way that you won't get bored with all the scientific information. It's morbid in its entertaining qualities. I really enjoyed it. But, don't pick this one up if you don't want to know. Seriously.

I'd put this one in the same vein as Stiff: The Curious Lives of Cadavers. Not as conversational but just as interesting and entertaining. We have all these preconceived notions about what will happen in extreme situations, the result of media influence and our own overactive imaginations. It was fascinating to see the reality. there isn't a lot of detail of the science behind these facts, making it a decent armchair reader.

Some of the chapters in here were interesting and felt well researched. There were other chapters, however, that felt a little glossed over.

And Then You're Dead, What Really Happens If .....by Cody Cassidy and Ppaul Doherty was received direct from the publisher. ATYD is kind of a "mythbusters" for causes of death. Oftentimes, what we expect to happen to cause a persons death, based upon movies, comics, our own morbid imaginations, etc, is not even close to right. Go figure, they stretch the truth on television and movies.. With the plethora of topics covered in this book, coupled with its its G (maybe PG for sensitive types),rating mean if you have little scientists in training or rather curious ones, you cannot go wrong with this book. As a matter of fact, it would be an awesome ebook for friends and family get togethers where know it alls tend to hang out and you or someone you know wants to show that person who really is "in the know."

This book is awesome. Even though it is an adult book, I would recommend this for teens that I work with. I love that it is science but presented in such a way that makes it interesting. It's one of those books that you want to interrupt the person next to you and say, "hey, did you know..." or, "your not going to believe this, but..."

A book to satisfy your morbid curiosities about what happens to your physical being in many fatal scenarios. The book has a light-hearted tone, but is well researched, using first-hand accounts when available (such as going over Niagara Falls in a barrel) and the work of scientists for more theoretical possibilities (such as leaping into a black hole). A fun, educational quick read.

A tongue in cheek, snarky (but scientifically accurate) look at what happens to you when….A host of horrific scenarios are named and then the authors proceed to tell you what would happen to you physically, bit by painful bit. Here are some examples – what happens when – you get your head cut off, you listen to the world’s loudest earphones or fall asleep in a really cold hot tub. I read with interest the stories about what would happen if your elevator fell from a skyscraper, what would happen if you were buried alive or if you airplane window popped out at 35,000 feet (all little phobias of mine). And yes, you can survive some of those things, but not without gruesome and painful injuries. A gleeful look at some of our darkest fears

This book is a collection of short descriptions of how the human body would react to various fatal situations, some more unlikely than others. For example, dying after slipping on a banana peel and hitting your head - definitely possible. Eating enough cookies that your stomach ruptures - also possibly, but pretty unlikely. Standing on the sun - incredibly fatal in many ways but probably not a problem you'll encounter.
It was sufficiently morbid but not overly gruesome. Perfect for when you're not feeling like a full Mary Roach book, but you'd like something along that vein.
