This was a unique historical fiction. I loved the setting that the two timelines took place in. Though I did love the setting of the Revolutionary War a bit more than the present day setting. I loved the love triangle and how the author chose to write and show tough situations.
TW: rape, Boston marathon bombing, war battles

This is the first book that I've read written by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The parallel story of Liberty and Annie was very touching. The search for the meaning and history of the ring Brad and Annie glued the stories together perfectly. I highly recommend this historical novel.

An excellent debut from author Heidi Chiavaroli, Freedom’s Ring beautifully intertwines contemporary and historical timelines into a single, captivating story. As I read this book, I loved getting acquainted with the characters and circumstances in each timeline, as well as seeing how they connected, physically and thematically. It kept me reading eagerly, wanting to know how everything would play out, and I completely enjoyed it. Readers who enjoy multiple but connected storylines should be sure to read Freedom’s Ring. I recommend it and look forward to reading more from Chiavaroli in the future.

A beautiful story of forgiveness, hope and love. A common factor joins two different era’s together, a beautiful ring with an inscription. After the Boston Marathon Bombing… Anna tries to piece her life together. A ring ,given to her by her rescuer, with the inscription “Victory belongs to the Strong” in latin, a source of strength. When she finally reconnects with the owner she is curious to know the story behind the ring. Many years earlier in the year 1770, Liberty Caldwell faces many challenges but that same ring brings her hope, healing and is the symbol of freedom. Both women face many challenges in their time but the ring directed their eyes up… to One stronger than themselves. On top of all the lessons about Grace, Forgiveness and Trusting in God I learnt a lot about the History of America and it’s fight for independence. Heidi Chiavaroli weaves a beautiful story about two women in two completely different times that find Forgiveness, Hope and Strength from God.
I particularly liked Liberty's story and was curious to know what happened and how it all connected to the present time.

Anaya David never recovered from the Boston Marathon bombing that claimed her niece's leg and almost took her life. She struggles with fear and guilt, and elusive memories of a man who helped her and then left. Her longing for healing sets her on a search not only for the man who helped her but for the origins of a mysterious ring that he left with her...

Liberty Caldwell has no supporter to help her. As a woman alone in Boston in the year 1770, she is in an extremely vulnerable position. When one British lieutenant reaches out to her and offers her help, will he prove to be trustworthy?

This book had a promising plotline. However, I didn't find that it drew me in once the story began. Annie's relationship with her sister is frustrating, to say the least, and seems a bit unrealistic for a family that was once apparently very close. By the same token, Liberty's "loving" brother is thoughtless and rather useless when it comes to caring and providing for his sister. He scolds her severely for a situation that she was forced into and then makes some rather vague promises to help her but never really seems to follow through. Liberty's reactions after disaster strikes seem oddly irrational. In addition to this, I found her dishonesty with her future husband and her ongoing feelings for another man to be rather disturbing.

Perhaps I rate the story too harshly- there was in any case something realistic about loose ends not being so neatly tied up. However, I found Freedom's Ring hard to get into. I rate it a two out of five stars. I received a complimentary copy from Tyndale House Publishers in order to write an unbiased review.

This book caught me right from the beginning. The parallel stories in the late 1700s and present were both engaging and interesting. There were plenty of twists and turns, and I really like where the story went. The geneaology aspect reminded me of my own historical searches. The story was detailed enough to make me look up different things about the early Revolutionary War so I could get deeper into the story. What a great, highly recommended read!

Freedom’s Ring is a dual-timeline romance set in Boston. The modern story follows Anaya, a victim of the Boston Marathon bombing, which left her afraid to run and suffering guilt over her niece’s injuries. The historical story follows Liberty, a single woman alone in 1770’s Boston, left to raise her son after being raped.

Both women have their traumas to overcome.
Anaya responds by withdrawing—from her family, and from running. Liberty also runs away, but that’s understandable in a time when society had definite opinions about unwed mothers, no matter the circumstances.

What connects the two women is a ring, which Liberty stole from her employer, and which Anaya is given by the stranger who rescues her after the bombing The present story shows Anaya and Brad meeting and seeking to find the story behind the ring—Liberty’s story.

It’s an engaging and intriguing timeslip story.
Freedom’s Ring the difficult task of making each timeline as compelling as the other. Recommended for fans of dual timeline novels, especially those with a patriotic American feel.

I so enjoy books that surprise me and this one definitely falls into that category. I found this book completely randomly, while not actually looking for anything in particular. It looks historical, but the description explains there’s a dual story line, something I often enjoy, and it’s by an author I’d never heard of before. I hadn’t read any books set around the Boston Marathon bombing and was intrigued, so I decided to give it a go and I’m glad I did!
Ms. Chiavaroli drew me into her story from the very first page and I was hooked, wanting to learn how these seemingly separate stories would tie together and getting to know Liberty and Anaya. The story comes from each of their perspectives, both written in the first person. I loved how unique their “voices” were, something I would think is difficult to write. They have very different lives, very different pasts, but both yearn for the same things - family, the ability to escape the past, freedom. I do have to say that Annie was my favorite of the two, probably because I connected better with her modern perspective and empathized with her struggles. I also loved the adventure of Annie and Brad searching out Liberty’s story, while simultaneously reading it from her perspective. I did wish for more detail, occasionally. Months of Liberty’s life are passed over, which I’m sure was necessary for the story to move forward, but I didn’t connect with her as thoroughly due to feeling as though I had missed so much of her life.
Though this book could be considered something of a romance, it focuses much more on the battles the characters are fighting - for Annie, the battle to be brave, to move beyond the horror of that day. For Liberty, sometimes the battle with literal, with the War for Independence. I so enjoyed seeing the characters grow throughout the story, and though they are far from perfect, seeing them find peace and strength, despite the hardships they’d faced.
Overall I enjoyed this book and will be looking forward to reading more by this new author!

This was such a great book! This was a well written story and captured me from the start.I enjoyed reading about the life of Annie David and Liberty Caldwell. I found that Liberty's story set in Boston of 1770 and Annie's story of Boston 2015 to be quite fascinating. I learned a lot more about both these events in this book. She really brought history to life for me. The characters were believable and relatable. Most of them were likable but a few I really did not like at all. I liked how she weaved the past and the present to create a story of love, redemption and hope. I think the reader along with the character's can learn valuable lessons from this book.

Freedom's Ring is a classy book that has two timelines, both showing courage, dignity, heart binding, hearsting, touching and faith. You have one women in the 1770's, all I wanted to do was tell her all will be ok - or at least I hope it will - you love this book so much because you get so involved in the characters lives - you feel like their best friend and you want to protect them-cheer them up - you get frustrated, loving, hurt, and faithful. The one lifeline had her life damaged in a horrific way - and a ring came into her life that belonged to the women from 1770 and it effects her immensely. On her journey there is special man who is helping her out. Can they both reconcile their lives?

I'm torn over whether or not I like a split timeline in a book, but I think it was done successfully here. Initially the two stories feel completely foreign to each other, but as the common thread of the ring is researched by Annie and her rescuer Brad, the deeper themes begin to weave together and by the end of the book I felt like there was unity between the separate eras. All the characters are flawed and make regrettable choices, but learn over time how depending on our faith and relying on God's strength is what makes us strong and carries us through to a new day and new choices. I loved Annie and Brad's sweet friendship and romance the most. I felt a bit disconnected from the emotion in Liberty's story, but it was a fascinating one. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author!

I really enjoyed this book. It was heartwarming, exciting, held my attention, and was like a puzzle trying to piece the two storylines together (in a good way!). I have to say, I was kind of hoping that I had a ring that I could research the history of to find some cool ancestor! But instead, I chose to read this and enjoy it. It take not take me long to get invested in the storyline, pretty much after the first couple of chapters.

Let's start with the present day storyline. Anaya was such a great character. Yes, she made some mistakes. And yes, she should have done things differently. But at the end of the day, I really liked her. She seemed like the perfect motivator for Brad, just as he was for her. She had a lot of healing that needed to be done. And her growth throughout the book was great. Perhaps my favorite part of the whole book was when Brad was talking to her about just being a regular guy. It was so important to him that she understand that, and understand that he wasn't this perfect night and shining armor. I mean how many guys would say that?

Now, for the historical storyline. I could not get enough of Liberty. She went through so much, and while her life didn't pan out the way I pictured in my mind, it was okay, because I ended up liking the direction the author took. And it ended up being better then what I would have done - which is probably why she is an author and I am not! Liberty's story was just captivating to me. There was drama, secrets, romance, fear, sadness, and so much more. I love when a character and their circumstances can give you an array of emotions. Makes for a better story!

Historical fans will like this, as will modern day fiction fans. And if you like the way Rachel Hauck writes, I think you'll like this too! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I know I say something like this every time but, good gravy this review is hard to translate from thoughts to words. I saw this on accident on NetGalley and threw a bunch of hopes, prayers, and wishes that I would be accepted. The synopsis drew me like a moth to a flame. The cover didn't hurt either. I knew that it might not be all that I expected since dual time frames are often hard to pull off successfully. But I still had to read it! I'm beyond glad I did since there's only one eh moment for me in the who shebang.

Let's get that eh moment out of the way so I can get back to gushing. The faith felt awkward. It is integrated well but it felt like an after thought. It felt like a toss out to the Christian fiction reviewers that NEED that faith element in every single book they read. Like I said, it fit with the book but it didn't feel seamless and it didn't focus in like it could have. Without it, the book still would have been amazing. I think people forget you don't have to overly write and read it to draw people to Christ. It wasn't an awkward enough an eh moment to affect the rating, however. (I've been known to do that.)

On to the good stuff! Like I said before, dual time books are hard to pull off. Heidi did so in a way that it meshed together really well, each time frame bouncing off the other to create an amazing story. What she did with two very well known events was nothing short of engaging. I needed to know the story of the ring. I knew the story but I had to ensure that Brad and Annie got to know it too. I think if it hadn't pieced it together, for them I would have been heartbroken. But then again, if Liberty hadn't found her happiness again I would have been heartbroken. I was so invested in these two women. But now I need to know what secrets Brad and Annie will find in her family tree...hint hint sequel.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by NetGalley. I was not compensated for this review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

Excellent historical fiction that had current ties. This is the first book I have read by Heidi Chiavaroli and I was very impressed. The research alone that told the story was thorough and believable.

The story centers around two women. One is living during the revolutionary fight for freedom in Massachusetts and the other lives in present day Massachusetts and was a victim of the Boston Marathon bombing. Both women's lives are brought together through a mysterious ring and the men who owned the ring.

If you love a great story that mingles with history, you will love this book!

I received an ARC ebook from Netgalley and the publisher in return for an honest opinion.

From the Boston Massacre to the bombing at the Boston Marathon, this book is filled with poignant histories of two ladies. Heidi Chiavaroli has written a book that is meant to be savored. She tells the stories of Liberty, whose brother was killed in the Massacre; and Anaya, a runner who was injured in the bombing.

When Anaya was injured in the bombing, a man wearing a Red Sox sweatshirt took her to safety, and gave her a ring. After she recovered, she looked for the man, but was never able to find him. When Anaya's mother calls her to tell her that her sister may be moving to England, Anaya decides to make contact with her sister and her niece. It wasn't a great homecoming. Anaya's sister is bitter about Anaya's desertion of her family.

Liberty has come to Boston to search for her brother. She has no money, no means of support, and no idea where her brother is. A compassionate "Lobster Back" (English soldier) offers her a job as his housekeeper. When she finally finds her brother, she's somewhat afraid to tell him who she works for, even though, her employers politics don't dovetail to hers. A couple of weeks later, Liberty's brother, James, was the first fatality.

The men in the book are strong men, who know how to face their fears--eventually. They are matched well to the women and stand well in their roles as leading men.

This is my first book that I've read by Heidi, but I am sure it won't be the last one I read by her. She has a fresh voice in Christian fiction and her books are worth every minute to read them.

Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and a signet ring that follows the family through the ages.

I really enjoyed this dual timeline story. Usually when I read a frame story like this, one time line is better than the other. I enjoyed both of these timelines and characters equally. I loved the Boston setting. I don't read a lot of Revolutionary War settings, so that was a refreshing change. The contemporary setting was interesting as well. You could tell the author was familiar with the area.

The faith elements were central to the story and very well done. Both of the main characters experienced a lot of growth. I felt like the historical story was wrapped up a little too nicely, but overall I felt very satisfied at the end of this novel. I highly recommend this book for historical fiction fans.

I received this book for free for the purpose of review.

Filled with deep emotion and dynamic characters, this book has something for everyone! A contemporary story line that keeps you on the edge of your seat turning the pages. A historical story line with such heartfelt characters they pull you into their story paired with rich historical details that will make you feel you’ve slipped thru the pages back in time. Some call this type of story a time-slip, others call it dual-timeline, which ever you prefer, I call this an engaging story that is sure to please those on both sides.

They may be separated by a few hundred years, but both of the heroines in this story struggle to face their fears and to put their trust in God. I appreciated the real struggle and the character growth.

I should note that there is a short scene where Liberty is physically assaulted; those sensitive to rape may find this scene difficult to read.

I enjoyed reading Freedom’s Ring and I look forward to reading more stories from Heidi Chiavaroli.
