I took a break from this series for a couple of years because I really didn't enjoy the book that came before this one. However, I have been trying to read some of my older TBR books and this came up on the list. I'm glad I gave this series another chance. Dying Breath is the 21st book in the Krewe of Hunters series. I feel like it could definitely be read as a stand alone. Looking ahead, it also looks like this couple, Vickie and Griffin, feature prominently in the next two books as well. That kind of breaks the pattern of the series because usually it's a different couple every time.
I really liked this story. As a paranormal mystery, it actually was heavier on the mystery part and lighter on the paranormal part. Don't get me wrong, there are still ghosts, but it felt more like a good serial killer mystery. It was a refreshing change. Vickie and Griffin's relationship made a lot of sense. They had a bit of a history. I loved them together and can't wait to read the next two books. The one thing I did miss in this book was the appearance of other team members. The only one who shows up here is Jackson Crowe.
As a whole, I have enjoyed the Krewe of Huinter series. There have been a couple of books that I didn't love, but I think you will find that with any long running series. Overall, I do recommend this one as well as the series.

Another Krewe of Hunters book and as usual it doesn't disappoint. Heather Graham has a way of writing a paranormal, historical, romance, like no other. Always enjoyable and just the right mix.

Graham sets her mystery among the hidden history of Boston, as an FBI agent and a historian must team up to find a series of kidnapped women. Compelled by puzzling clues, they cross the city to save lives, as their relationship turns steamy. Enjoyable.

Heather needs to jazz these books up a bit, give them a new lease on life

Heather Graham is one of my favorite thriller writers, and this book doesn't disappoint! Fast paced, thrilling, exactly what you would expect from Graham and her Krewe of Hunters! Highly recommended.

Heather Graham has been one of my favorite authors for some time now and this did not disappoint. Overall excellent book with strong characters and storyline. Would recommend.
Thank you so much to Heather Graham, Harlequin (US & Canada) & NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book..

Wow! One of the best of the Krewe of Hunters series. The prologue starts off with a creepy bang and the rest of the story is highlighted with pretty gruesome scenes and as usual a real sense of place and appreciation for history. Loved it and excited for the next since this book ended on a bit of a to be continued.

Dying Breath kicks off a trilogy-within-a-series which will feature the same couple investigating three crimes. It’s part of the Krewe of Hunters series, so I went in expecting suspense, mytery, romance, and more than a dash of the paranormal. And that’s exactly what I got.
The novel kicks off with teenage Vickie Preston escaping a serial killer after heeding the warning of a ghost Years later, with the killer still behind bars, Vickie appears to be connected to a new string of deaths and disappearances: young women who are being buried alive. And the cop who saved her life is now assigned to the case as a federal agent with the Krewe of Hunters. As Vickie and Griffin grow closer, the threat to Vickie herself grows — and other people connected to Vickie’s past are drawn in as well.
Graham kept me guessing throughout the entire book, setting up suspect after suspect to look suspicious before appearing to clear them…but not necessarily doing so. I can honestly say I didn’t see the solution coming. As my regular readers know, I’m not a fan of serial killer books, but for some reason I can usually handle this series, in part because Graham maintains just enough distance from the killers’ twisted minds. We see it more from the outside than the inside, which means I can enjoy the suspense and the romance while viewing the actual murders as a puzzle to be solved rather than as the exploration of a dark psyche. There are scenes where we get the killer’s third-person POV (without knowing who it is), but even then, it’s usually more about what they say and do than what they are thinking and feeling. That’s certainly true in this book. Those glimpses into the villain’s actions may also have made it more rather than less difficult to figure out who the murderer was.
I really like Vickie and Griffin together, despite a bit of an age difference. It’s no surprise that as a teen, Vickie had a bit of a crush on Griffin, who was a young rookie cop when he saved her life. Now that they’re both adults, a mutual attraction and trust builds quickly but believably. Both of them are able to see ghosts; in Vickie’s case, it’s the same ghost who warned her all those years ago. Since she can see and hear him, he has stayed with her, a sort of younger brother or good friend. He’s more than a plot device; he’s a full-fledged secondary character with a slightly cheeky charm.
And it’s a good thing that I like both Vickie and Griffin, because as I mentioned, they continue as protagonists for the next two books. That’s not the usual modus operandi for this series, which usually focuses on a new couple in each book (though all of them are connected to the Krewe in some way, and usually at least one has been a minor or secondary character in a previous book.) I’m looking forward to seeing Vickie and Griffin’s relationship develop, and wondering how long it will be before Vickie herself joins the Krewe.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I will not be able to review this book. I have deleted it from my system and will buy the book if I decide to read it on my own.
Thank you
Ruby

This book surprised me. I was utterly shocked how invested I was in this book. Very well written and relatable characters

In her youth, Vickie Preston survived the attack of a serial killer while babysitting. It was the first time she ever saw a ghost, but not the last.
Griffin Price was there that night as a policeman. Now though, he is a Special Agent with the FBI in the Krewe of Hunters. He is in Boston working on the case of another serial killer called The Undertaker. The killer is kidnapping women and putting them into tight spots with not much air and sending notes, hints about their locations, to the police.
Vickie becomes involved when one of the notes mentions her by name. Her vast knowledge of the history of Boston becomes a tool in the arsenal of the Hunters. As Vickie and Griffin work together, they find that they are drawn together.
This is one of the best Krewe of Hunters books that I have read. I loved the way the clues were delivered and the explanations as they were figured out by Vickie, Griffin, the police, and other members of the Krewe. There is information shared about the Boston of today as well as historical Boston. It makes for interesting reading. And it's a good mystery.
Vickie and Griffin are both good characters. The character of ghostly Dylan and Darlene are good and not overused as a plot device. There is romance between Vickie and Griffin. And it does lead to some sex scenes. The mystery takes the forefront of most of the story. The romance is slightly secondary.
Overall, I give Dying Breath 4 out of 5 stars. It's a well-written mystery with romance. I was guessing at who did it right up until the end.
Dying Breath by Heather Graham is #21 in the Krewe of Hunters series. It was released May 30, 2017 from MIRA.
My copy of the book was an ARC provided by the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own and freely given.

DYING BREATH takes us back into author Heather Graham's Krewe of Hunters series with a bang. I loved the look into the past where Vicki and Griffin first meet and seeing how they both coped with the strange happenings that took place. I have to admit I certainly understood her parents' reaction to her helping the agents and got a big kick out of how Griffin handled it all. Though the Krewe books are what some might call milder in the horror factor there are enough twists, turns and downright surprises that will keep you glued to the pages. Vicki and Griffin with the Krewe members are rather quickly able to decipher the clues and save a number of victims, while the couple are getting closer to each other. The romance hits just the right notes because in the midst of tragedy and fear it only seems fair that they find a little happiness.
I love this series and haven't read a bad one yet and this one is really exceptional in hitting the right tone. DYING BREATH will give you a intriguing mystery, action, drama, romance, some slips, slides, twist and turns along the way and the HEA we all demand.

Rich in history and intriguing puzzles the Krewe of Hunters have a new case in their hands where the past collide with the present and changes the future of the main characters.
The murders and the kidnapped women's perplexing disappearances without any clues or evidence left behind can only be solved with the help of the ghosts and the knowledge of the history Vickie Preston has.
The prologue of the story had my heart pumping fast, and I was excited to see what the Krewe would have to face this time around. And the mysteries, the clues, and the fear in Boston are all intriguing and difficult to handle, yet I didn't get that intense, palpable tension from the danger with this story. It is a well-told tale, interesting, and baffling, however, the constant long references to the history of the town, to the people of the past, and the events hundreds of years ago, it took the edge off the action, the intensity from kidnapped women's case to be solved.
The romance in the story was rather adorable. The two people, Vickie Preston and Griffin Price obviously have a connection, affection, and attraction towards each other. It was like serendipity for these two to meet again, and to be able to work together, to complete each other as their solve the riddles. I felt like the romance had more attention and room in this story than the previous Krewe books, and I liked it immensely. It felt believable, it was authentic, and the passion between Vickie and Griffin was a beautiful thing to observe.
Vickie's parents were a bit overprotective, yet their humorous interferences were understandable. All the secondary characters enhanced the story. At first, I felt like there were things left unwrapped with some of the secondary cast, but the story ends in a surprising cliffhanger, so there might be answers to those questions coming up later on.
I enjoyed the story, the characters, the mysteries, and the interactions between the characters. The story is well written with that touch of paranormal that all the Krewe stories have, as the special unit from the FBI who can communicate with the ghosts around them. With the plentiful information and the ample amount of history as part of the tale, this was a story that took me longer to read as normally. Instead of a race to find the culprits and the solution in my mind, I felt like it was more of a cozy mystery to be enjoyed at my leisure. Still pleasing and gratifying, even jittery at times, with that delightful romance of two obvious soulmates having a chance to meet again.

The Krewe of Hunters are back!!! (Insert me screaming with excitement here) Seriously, this is probably my favorite all-time series. I just cannot get enough.
Our story starts with 17 year old Vickie Preston babysitting baby Noah for the Ballantine family. What Vickie doesn’t know is that an escaped prison convict is hiding in the house. Until Dylan Ballantine gets her out of the house. But Dylan is a ghost…
This book will probably rank as one of my favorites from Heather Graham. It got my adrenaline running from the very beginning. Vickie later becomes a bit of a history buff and while Griffin was initially the officer who helped Vickie in the past, now he’s part of the Krewe of Hunters. I really enjoyed them as a couple, even when their feelings for each other wasn’t realized. I think of all couples that I’ve read, I felt like these two are some of most compatible I’ve seen. I know that might sound strange, but I feel like if I met Vickie and Griffin in real life, I’d want to set them up together.
Another facet that I love about all Heather Graham books that really shone in this book was the history. The reason Vickie is so vital to this investigation is that she’s a total history buff. She’s also incredibly intelligent. So as the Undertake is giving out clues, Vickie is busy solving the puzzle.
Heather Graham always delivers and so do the Krewe of Hunters. This series has been one of my all-time favorites for a long time now, and it continues to be. Graham knows what works but always keeps things fresh and keeps readers on their toes the entire time.

I love the Heather Graham Krewe books! I mean who doesn't love solving mysteries with paranormal means? The only trouble is that Graham can be on the inconsistent side. I never know quite what to expect when I pick up one of her books. I mean I always enjoy them but some just don't quite click quite as well as others and at times you have to suspend belief more than a little. This was one of my favorites. For starters there are ghosts! And the main character, Vickie is a historian who loves research. Vickie and the FBI are racing a serial killer who leaves historically based clues which was pretty awesome.
I really loved Vickie and Griffin's relationship. They had a prior history and so their instant connection worked. They also worked well together and weren't immediately declaring their undying love and devotion. I thought Jackson was a good grounding presence and while he is very much a background character he added a little bit of calmness to the investigation.
The mystery was pretty well done. There were a few red herrings sprinkled about and I had several different theories going into the final showdown. There were a few things I would have liked explained a bit more but on the whole I was satisfied.
While this is the 21st book in the Krewe series it's a very easy series to read out of order. While I've met Jackson before the rest of the characters are new. Each book is essentially a stand alone with some of the same background characters and a connection to the same FBI unit.

4.25 Hearts Another wonderful adventure with the Krewe of Hunters. What I enjoy most about this series is the history that Graham puts into each book. This one is set in Boston. One of my favorite cities that I haven’t been to since I was a kid. And now I just want to jump on a plane and head back for a visit.
The second biggest enjoyment for me is the ghost interaction. Some of the books have more than others and this was one of them. Dylan does quite a bit of visiting and is adorable when he does. Noah (not a ghost) is written so grown up that it is interesting to see the differences in the “brothers”. You will understand that more after reading the story.
And then there is the suspense part of the story. This is #21 in the series and I swear I have read at least 90% of them and have figured out the “who-dun-it” less than a handful of times. Graham has a way of throwing the reader (as least this reader) off the scent of the real person. I can usually tell who it is *not* but not who it is.
The thing about this series if each book can be a stand alone romantic paranormal suspense but I have no idea why someone who is a fan of the genre isn’t already a connoisseur of this series.
Disclaimer:
I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Quick read for anyone interested in paranormal romance and suspense. I had not read any others in this series but it wasn't noticeable. I was able to jump right in and get right into the story.

OMG!!! Was thrilled to be able to read this, have red all of the others in this Krewe series and his one had me twisting and turning no the ending... not whom I suspected, Bravo!

Special Agent Griffin Price of The Krewe of Hunters works with someone he is protective of. The FBI Paranormal Unit chases a serial killer who buries his victims alive.

DYING BREATH by Heather Graham is the twenty-first novel in the Krewe of Hunters series, but don't let that discourage you as each book works as a standalone. Graham takes us to Boston, Massuchest and delivers a creepy serial killer murder where victims are buried alive. Historical tidbits, a race to solve clues and a side dish of romance made this paranormal romance a page turner.
Almost eight years ago, then teen Vickie Preston was almost killed by a serial killer. It was the first time she saw a ghost. Vickie is a historian and author who also spends time with troubled youth. Special Agent Griffin Price is working the Undertaker case along with Andrew Jackson. Dubbed the Undertaker this serial killer buries his female victims alive and then leaves cryptic clues tied to the cities history to find them. Their newest clue directly mentions Vickie. Price immediately recognizes her name. He was the cop who wounded the serial killer on that fateful day eight years ago.
I loved the cryptic clues and piecing together the mystery to save each victim. Graham delightfully tied in historical tidbits bringing Boston and its history to life. The case was a particularly good one tying in the past and present. The race against time, the links to Vickie and cast of suspects kept me engaged.
We have two ghosts interact with Vickie and the special agents. The first has ties with Vickie's past and the second is the first victim in the new murders. I always love this aspect of ghostly entities assisting in solving the crime.
Secondary characters added interest, offered red herrings and helped further the investigation. The who took me by surprise. It was clever and only after did I pick up subtle hints.
While Vickie and Griffin share a connection from the past I found the romance to be the weakest thread in this tale. Both characters are intelligent, and Vickie impressed me with her knowledge and ability to piece together clues, but I didn't feel the chemistry. The romance is served on the side, which for me isn't a problem, but I would have enjoyed it if they were just friends. Since the next two books will feature them, I am hoping I get a chance to connect more.
The case came to a satisfying conclusion in DYING BREATH, but the epilogue has me very excited for the next book. The next two books, DARK RITES, and WICKED DEEDS will feature Griffin and Vickie, so this is the perfect place to jump in.
