This is awesome, but be ready to get your hands dirty. It isn't just about drilling holes in the bottom of this or that everyday object, some of these are actual builds with cement and other messy stuff.

It's about looking at things in new ways, which is my favorite thing to do. Also about creating facades that look heavy and very permanent, that aren't.

A great resource for container gardening - great for urbanites and people with small yards or no yard at all. Container gardening is great when you have plants that require special soil or who are super picky about soil ph.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. Thanks to NetGalley and Timber Press for the opportunity to read and review Potted: Make Your Own Stylish Garden Containers by Annette Goliti Gutierrez! Beautiful photographs and detailed directions make this a must-have book for creating imaginative plant containers. The book isn't bogged down with instructions for planting because the focus is on the pots. A list of needed supplies and clear directions will help beginners create and enjoy beautiful containers that are show off worthy! My favorites are the metal water garden, the cinder block planters and the marbled pots- gorgeous! 5 stars for a wonderfully creative craft book to give your plants a special place.

Potted by Annette Goliti Gutierrez and Mary Gray is a creative look at making planters from common materials especially those found in construction but also some found in the kitchen. I asked my husband, a professional landscaper, to look over my copy, he found the book to be imaginative but also reasonably doable; giving the homeowner plenty of ideas to choose or expand.

As for me, I liked that an assortment materials were used so that there is something that would appeal to most anyone reading the book. A few of the planters I had seen before but never with this much detail on the construction of them. Most were new ideas for me.

I appreciated that all supplies are listed in a clear concise way with detail directions and illustrations. Photographs of the work in progress were extremely helpful as well as ones of the finished planter. I do think that one would need to have some knowledge of using tools such as saws and drills. A few of the cement planters and driveway grids were definitely out of my skill range but most were ones I would be willing to try. My favorites were the planters using the PCV pipes and the stock tank, along with the flying saucer planters.

Overall, anyone from a novice to a skilled worker would be able to read, enjoy and use this book to make planters. One of the strengths of the Potted is the way that it encourages each person to see everyday materials in a new way to create something of beauty for homes and gardens.

This book drew me in originally because of the flower image on the cover as well as the subject overall as our house loves plants, flowers etc.

The writing is laid out in paragraphs and columns with large images to view and steps to follow. It utilizes space in the garden by introducing the idea of planters built into the wall not just plain designing pots.

The book is definitely for older readers as the use of saws and drills are required for a lot of the projects. Though there are some more simple plain to amazing design ideas for standard terracotta pots, family can pitch in and help there with supervision I'm sure.

Overall it was an interesting read and I with be trying these ideas with my mum in the future. I was intrigued to find out too that the authors owned between them a Pot shop and it's a unique idea because we can only ever find our pots we need in retail shops that are well known and obviously mass produced too.

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me a copy to review!

My brain has gone over drive with this book. Pretty much anything can be re-purposed into a stunning planter. I have to admit with all of the stunning pots in this book my absolute favorite thing in the book has to be the section on marbleizing. I have always wanted to know how to do this and do it right. Now I do. I cannot wait to get the paint colors I want and get started. My porch garden is going to be stunning.

I love how for each project in the book there is an easy to follow step by step guide. They start you off with a supply list with pictures, and then take you step by step with pictures as well from start to finish. After seeing the planters iin this book you will never look at another bowl, piece or wood, or bucket the same again,

The book ‘Potted’ is in my eyes a very big success. The authors have set out to write a book of do-it-yourself (DIY) potting projects, varying in degrees of difficulty, but with each project having a very energizing and stylish result. They certainly achieved their goal in this interesting and inspirational DIY book.
The authors, Annette Goliti Gutierrez and Mary Gray, own a Los Angeles based, outdoor lifestyle brand called ‘Potted’ for over a decade already. The authors’ love of design led to the creation of this book, and it contains many examples of inspirational DIY projects (23 projects to be exact). Filled with numerous plant arrangement ideas for your garden – whether your garden is the size of a park or you just wish to customize your patio, balcony, or the entranceway to your home with style. Important tenets of gardening such as drainage have also not been forgotten.
Potted, is a book containing various types of affordable DIY projects, ranging from the simple to the more advanced. The authors do state, that if a project is out of one’s comfort zone and skill, to seek an expert for assistance before injuries happen. Safety is actuality stressed throughout the book with tips to keep one’s digits safe.
There are five categories of material used to create or customize planters in this book. These categories include, concrete, plastics, metals, terra cotta, and organic materials such as rope. Each category has an average of five projects and each project starts with a list (and photo) of the tools and materials needed to complete the project. After a short paragraph on preparation, the projects are listed in single steps. Each step has one or more very useful color photographs that do not leave much guesswork remaining. The completed planter or project is then also shown in use with good decorational ideas on where and how to use them.
This book uses imperial units only. An imperial to metric conversion table has been included towards the back of the book. The table does not really fulfill its purpose if a reader wishes to further customize the projects in this book, by making planters with different measurements.
Potted, is a very well thought out book, with plenty of DIY projects varying in skill and difficulty. Most importantly, the projects are energizing, affordable and fun. The planters in this book are unique, and the designing skills and authors’ imagination are to be praised. I recommend this book to anyone who loves DIY projects or for people who wish to brighten up their living or garden spaces.

Home décor is so expensive these days, especially anything to greet your visitors as they enter your home. Pots come in own to do this, but buying a feature pot that really catches the eye is hard to find without leaving a large hole in the wallet.
Enter this book, with very inexpensive material this book shows how to make fabulous, eye-catching and unique pots. They are easy to make, using material that is easy to access. The book covers concrete, metal, plastic, terra-cotta and organic material; such as rope, driftwood and woven fabric. The instructions are easy to follow with great step by step photos, some only requiring paint others a little more but all absolutely fabulous and none look tacky or cheap. The most expensive item will be the plant, and even those can come free if you can garden.
