Sunbaked is a light-hearted mystery set on a tropical Island after New Yorker Nina Sparks drinks a little to much and decides to buys a house. On the internet. At 2am. From the start we are introduced to a variety of colourful characters all of which seamlessly integrate themselves into Nina's life allowing for a team of them to set about to solve the mystery of the missing woman Tiffany. I loved the authors descriptions of the islands, it really made me feel like I was on a tropical island and while the Nina herself was a tad bland the characters she surrounds herself with really add to the comedic effect I believe the author is going for. The mystery itself is fairly simple and readers will be able to work it out long before the book ends but hey sometimes it's nice to not have to really think about what's going on. Either way the book is fast paced enough that there doesn't feel like it is dragging at all. If your after a quick light hearted read this is one for you.

Nina Spark has just moved to Pineapple Cay, and things are going really well for her as she settles into her cottage on the beach. However, Barry Bassett, a local man, has his eye on her cottage and plans to tear it down so he can put up condos. Then Barry's wife Tiffany goes missing, and Nina is the prime suspect. Nina has to figure out who is really behind the disappearance of Tiffany Bassett before she ultimately takes the blame!

Sunbaked by Junie Coffey was just the sort of fun, flirtatious book I needed for the weekend. Nina Spark made an impulsive purchase after finding her husband of 10 years cheating on her. She up and bought a beach cottage on a tiny island in the middle of nowhere. Her plans to start a new life in a new place are only marred by the fact that not everyone is excited she bought her little yellow cottage. Business tycoon (and raging jerk) Barry Bassett and his prissy wife Tiffany make it very clear that Nina is not welcome and try to push her into leaving just as soon as she arrives. When Tiffany is abducted from a fancy dinner party, the story takes a wild turn, with Nina and her newfound friend Danish trying to solve the mystery.

I loved both the beginning and the ending of Sunbaked. I identified with Nina's desire to chuck it all and start over somewhere warm and tropical. Pineapple Cay reminded me of places I've traveled to and heard about. The end sets up the next book and suggests a romance is in the works for Nina. At times I wasn't thrilled with parts of the middle of the book. It seemed to slow down for me, and I really tired of Danish's quirkiness, but then sort of grew to like him as the book evolved.

I kept coming back to this book, wanting to be transported to the idyllic Caribbean sunshine as I sat reading in grey England. I found the plot interesting, it kept me guessing until the end, I appreciated that it focused on a good story and lively characters rather than too much graphic detail of blood, guts, or sex scenes.

Why sure everyone suffering through a divorce does some silly things. Nina, after a few glasses of wine, decides that she's had it with winter and goes online. She finds the cutest little cottage on Pineapple Bay (pictures and all) and at 2:00 in the morning, she buys it. Seriously cheesy, right? As I roll my eyes at the beginning of the book, thinking "this is going to be a long one".

Well, I was wrong. I loved this book. I want to move to Pineapple Bay and buy myself a "Miss Rose" cottage. Nina's hooks up with a whole cast of quirky, fun characters while living there. And if you think that first scene was cheesy, wait until you meet Danish. He's the mailman, part-time bartender and yoga instructor of the island. He also reminds me of one of the Wayne's World guys.

There's also a plot twist with a missing museum quality emerald necklace missing that the whole island talking. Oh yeah, there is a witch that was wearing the necklace while it was stolen. She was also kidnapped.

A fun in the sun, tropical frolic great for a beach read or even a chilly winter night. Be careful though, you may find yourself on the internet at 2:00 a.m. searching for your own cottage.

I I actually chose this book by its cover. It was an excellent choice. After kicking out her cheating husband and with several glasses of wine under her belt, Nina bought a house on a Caribbean island - sight unseen. Within a week she was in residence. With a cast of characters that will make you smile, this light=hearted mystery/romance is the perfect beach read.

This is a perfect book for those looking for a light beach or a holiday to read - cute, fun, entertaining, hint of romance and a dash of thriller.

What could have been Nina Spark's worst 2am at night, post breakup impulse decision, turned out to be the best turn of her life as she moved to the sun & sands of Pineapple Bay, makes new friends and goes through a journey of self-discovery in a new place. The only flaw was the super predictable mystery which was also narrated in a very Nancy Drew style and just felt like a damper.

I like the way Junie Coffey describes the sandy white beaches and turquoise waters in the Caribbean, where the story take place. I wish I could buy a ticket and take a vacation there, lying in the sun.
The story has a great start. Nina, despising her cheating husband is drinking wine. At two o'clock in the morning, Nina is on her computer and goes shopping online,and buys a fix me up cottage in this tropical Caribbean paradise.
A sober Nina is headed to her new home, and gets to meet some quirky and intriguing characters.
Barry Bassett, a wealthy businessman is furious that Junie bought this cottage, since he wanted to purchase the land. He makes threatening comments, visits, and has his big dogs chase her.
Her mailman is also the local yoga instructor, as well as an assistant bartender,and appears to be very immature.
Nina finds herself immersed in a mystery when Barry Bassett's wife is kidnapped at a party. An emerald necklace worth millions is stolen
Some of the characters seem greedy, shallow, immature, and not likeable. Some characters were making poor dangerous decisions,not thinking of the consequences.
Despite the adventures and the mystery, the conclusion was predictable. There was a hint of possible romance, I found this a very easy read.

After reading Sunbaked by Janie Coffey I found myself scouting the internet for cottages in the Bahamas. I read this book in exchange for a review, but it put me so much in the mood for a Caribbean adventure it may get expensive. Really enjoyed the mystery, but mainly enjoyed the atmosphere of starting over in a tropical setting.

Barry Bassett, a land developer tries to sweet talk, then swindle her property away from her to put up some condos, but she’s done rolling over for other people. Then Barry’s wife disappears, taking a rare and expensive necklace with her. Determined not to let her new life in paradise become tarnished, Nina sets out to solve the mystery. This is a delightful new series that whisked me out of wintery Maine

Sunbaked is just too fun! I loved the story from the beginning. How many of us wish we could make a phone c all in the middle of the night to buy a little beach house in the Caribbean? Nina and her new home and her new friends are a delight - I hope we have lots more adventures with them in the future.
