Was completely confused at first. And still am to the very last page. Not my cup of tea. I couldn't relate to the material therefore making it very hard to understand and also enjoy. 2/5 stars.

Hot Flush is a fun read at any age, but particularly if you are going through menopause or have recently.
How could it not be? The story of one woman who receives letters telling her that as she goes through menopause, powers will be waking up inside her- but she can't take any hormones or supplements, because that will interfere with her powers! A fun read that affirms the worth of women over fifty (and makes you want to get in better shape).

I got a copy of this book to review from Netgalley. All opinions expressed are my own.

Such a great book! It was fun, comical and decently fasted paced. It did take long to read which for me is great because I bore easy with book, and I get I don't read fast I just don't like three month to read a book. This is a good read. Funny with engaging characters. I'm really looking forward to reading the next one.

If ever there was a story that I never expected to read, then it was this. But I'm so glad I did, not just because it was so original, but because it was funny, well-paced and totally unpredictable.
Euphemia Sage (what a cool name) runs a successful business with her husband and has a happy family life, good friends and a solid outlook on life. However, a family secret still lurks in the background and Euphemia has doubts about its validity - I mean, whoever heard of anybody getting super powers when they reached menopause? (Letters from her aunt revealed that the powers are passed down, mother to eldest daughter, and had done so for generations. Euphemia would be next.)
It was ridiculous, right? Well, while she initially thought that, there was still a little voice in her head telling her that such a thing could be true. And so, just in case there was the tiniest smidgen of a chance that it could be, she avoided the only thing that would definitely destroy all hope: HRT!
So, she suffered the hot flushes and waited ... and waited...and waited.
Her patience paid off.
Her first challenge comes when an old "friend" (Jane) turns up asking for her help, Euphemia notices her senses have changed - her vision is clearer and her hearing phenomenal, and all in all she feels stronger. Jane is in debt to loan sharks, and when Euphemia learns that the loan company is run by a member of her own staff, it becomes clear her own business and reputation are also at risk.
What follows is a fun-packed series of events as the loan sharks take Jane - and Euphemia's dog, Petal - hostage. She must use her new skills to rescue Jane and Petal, and bring the conmen and women to justice.
A totally absorbing read, pure escapism that offers all the essential ingredients of a cosy mystery but with out the predictability that is often found in this genre.

Menopause can be rough right? But Euphemia has it a little harder than some others, she finds out she has been handed superpowers. This is a “gift” handed down through her family tree and can only be used after menopause.
Get ready for nothing but fun ahead as she tries to save her friend who has been kidnapped as well as her pug.
Nail biting suspense as the pages fly in this quick read.
I hope this will be a series and we see more of Euphemia and her sidekick Petal her pug.
I received an e-copy of this book through NetGalley and am giving my honest opinion of this book.
This did not effect my review all opinions above are my own.

Once in a while I like to read a book that is outside my genre. Hot Flush is a fast paced story that has a cast of strong, likeable characters and a good story line.
I was engaged from the beginning and was entertained until the end.

I volunteered to read and review an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.

This type of 'super powers' storyline is not my normal kind of choice, the write up sounded interesting and as I discovered the main concept I bought in to it (despite my usual avoidance of such themes).
The book was so well written that I found myself liking the main character very much and I was intrigued to find out what superpowers she would eventually gain.
The storyline was dark and yet, strangely normal and domesticated at the same time.
I enjoyed this read and praise the author for taking on such a strange topic and presenting it in a realistic way. My major criticism would be how abruptly the story ended, it felt slightly incomplete, I wanted to know what happened to the daughters' love lives a bit more, I suppose this does lend itself for a sequel.

Reading this novel was a lot of fun. It can make laugh and move at the same time while keeping you hooked.
Strongly recommended!
Many thanks to Wonderful World and Netgalley for this ARC

With twists galore, this debut by Rosy Fenwicke is a fast paced cross-genre narrative (fantasy and psychological thriller) that is both original and well-written.

The protagonist is Euphemia Sage who, upon reaching the menopause, inherits super-powers which has been passed down the maternal bloodline. With two daughters of her own, Euphemia still hasn’t forgiven her own mother for abandoning her as a child. But this is the least of her problems when her frumpy receptionist (Euphemia owns a consulting business) turns out to be frump by day and vamp by night, who, along with her husband, has a little business of her own on the side.

At school, Jane was Euphemia’s arch enemy, but now Jane’s life is in danger, Euphemia is the only one Jane can turn to.

As the lives of Euphemia, Alison, and Jane inter-twine; Euphemia begins to uncover the truth about her mother’s past. But somebody else knows what happened to her mother, and they also know about Euphemia’s powers: Euphemia’s life is about to be put in grave danger.

This story was different to anything else I’ve read, and I really enjoyed it. It was both funny and thrilling, and a real page turner. Reminded me a bit of The Avengers. I would love to see more stories with Euphemia as the protagonist, and feel there could be a whole series of books for her. I certainly hope so.

Under Literature Love’s rating system, this book has been awarded 4 out of 5 stars.

This means: I really enjoyed this book. This book is highly recommended.
A well-structured narrative with three dimensional characters (not necessarily likeable).
Plot is intriguing with twisty hooks.

Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC copy.

Finally, something I can hope for, the superpowers of menopause! Wow, that sounds really stupid, but this book is anything but. I loved the originality and countless twists and turns in this hilarious, yet suspenseful novel. Highly recommended for my friends "of a certain age" and the youngsters who still have a long way to go.

Hot Flush by Rosy Fenwicke is a super hero book in a nutshell..
So different and unusual, fresh and delightful.
On her thirteth birthday Euphemia receives a letter from her aunt Maree telling her that when she enters menopause she will experience special powers. It takes another twenty years for Euphemia to realize exactly what her aunt was talking about.
Great read, very funny with many twists and turns it makes it impossbile to put down. Shows family dynamics and how her powers make impact on her whole family and put in motion some unbelievable things.
Very interesting read.

This was such a fun read!

I was attracted to the book for two reasons: first it was about a woman whose arrival into menopause triggers special powers (this is my age demographic!) and there was a pug on the cover (have I mentioned my obsession with Doug the Pug?) Other than those two things, I didn't know much about this book.

In a nutshell, this book is about Euphemia Sage. She is a 53 year old wife and mother. As soon as she gets her first hot flash of menopause, her special powers are triggered. She is taken on an adventure that she would have not thought she was prepared for. That's as much as I will tell you. I think the delight in the book is not really knowing where it is going and what is going to happen.

This is really a fun, interesting, funny book that you will not want to put down. When I learned that this is the author's first novel, I was shocked. It is really well written. It's moves the story along at a quick pace, there is enough narrative to explain Euphemia's past, and how and why she gets these special powers, but it all flows with the action of the story.

I don't think there is some hidden message that the author is trying to convey. Or maybe there is. As a woman who is approaching the same period in her life as Euphemia, it's pretty cool to read about someone who reaches her peak after 50. Yeah, I get that I won't receive any special powers when I hit menopause - but it does give me (meno)pause to think that maybe the best is yet to come.

Also, as an aside, the pug (named Petal) is basically my favourite character and possibly my spirit animal. She is totally all over everyone to pay attention to her, whines for snacks but when it's time to go out for a long walk, she is somehow exhausted and wants to lie on the sofa. I feel you Petal.

I would highly recommend this book if you are looking for a light and fun read.

I rated this 4/5 stars on Goodreads.

Full disclosure: I received this eARC from NetGalley for a fair and honest review. (Thanks NetGalley!)

I wasn't really sure about this book after reading the excerpt but it was surprisingly cute and different. The author did a great job turning something that ends a journey in a woman's life into something unique and life affirming. The main character realizes that strength comes in several different forms, and true love is the most important thing of all. Thank you NetGalley and Rosy Fenwicke for allowing me to read this book and write a honest review.

I absolutely loved this book. Who of us, that is, women of a certain age, would not love to develop super powers with menopause, other than being able to start sweating at the drop of a hat. The characters were engaging, the story captivating, and it kept me reading to find out what was going to happen next. I am looking forward to the next book.

Fun, smart fast moving mystery.

This book was a wonderful surprise! The premise of 53 year old Euphemia becoming a superheroine at menopause was genius. The story twisted and turned and held my attention till the very last page. I literally could not put this book down reading it in one sitting till the late hours of the night.
I loved her family there were some interesting dynamics. I see this as a start of a promising new series. Rosy Fenwicke thank you for a wonderful read I hope you are working on book 2 right now!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC I received from NetGalley.

This was an enjoyable caper. Euphemia Sage and her menopausal superpowers kept me hooked until the last page, with a few laughs along the way. Euphemia was a relatable character, and I enjoyed finding out how she got used to her unbelievable super powers and used them to her advantage as her successful, but safe life began to unravel. Not sure I would have had the same patience as she showed her friend Jane though!

With a menopausal heroine in Euphremia Sage realizes that her receptionist was moonlighting as a loan shark, and her friend is behind on her payments, she’s certain that something must change, and she will be th one to make it. Two decades back, she had received a letter that predicted her developing super powers once she hit menopause, and now, surprise, surprise, that prediction has come to pass. So off she goes to find just what she is capable of, and all under the auspices of helping her friend Jane get out from under the ballooning loan payments.

There must be something in the water in New Zealand, as both authors that I have read from there have a completely unique view of the world, with a decidedly offbeat sense of humor. With Euphremia being so totally wonderful and fantastic, she’s the woman you want to know – loyal, sensible and generous, with a spoilt and gregarious dog, she’s never one to underestimate. From one twist to the next, while there is no real mystery (Jane owes the money, Annie will collect) the real twists happen as Euphremia explores her newly acquired powers, successfully and unsuccessfully, but always with a sense of fun.

Light, fun and quick to read, this story will grab you and entertain until suddenly it’s all over – and you look up. Perfect for putting a smile on your face this first in the series story promises plenty of fun to come.

Oh, if only more of us women could hope to acquire "super powers" along with the hot flushes/flashes that come with menopause. It would definitely balance out the bad (night sweats, bright red flushes, erratic hormones...) with the good (super hearing, sight, strength...) . One can only dream but live vicariously through this book.

This was a fun, comical, fast paced read. I truly enjoyed the main character's journey into discovering her super powers. This is one of those stories that leaves you wondering if the super hero should even bother rescuing her friend, but then when her dog is kidnapped, the situation becomes more urgent. The little dog was a real charmer in this story.
