This good was a good and quick read. This story contains romance and second chances.
Daniel Goodenham, Lord North Barrows, made mistakes several years ago. The one woman who saw him as man and not his title, he deeply hurt. When the current Earl dies, he knows this is his chance to make things right.
Rebecca Bond has been caring for the estate while the earl was ill. People believed her to be a ghost. She is intelligent with a head for numbers. She fell in love with Daniel when they were young but her hurt her deeply, but she realizes she needs him to help her get a husband since her uncle has his family to take care of and believes a woman cannot do the jobs of a man.
When Rebecca and Daniel meet again, old feelings resurface. Both try to deny their feelings, but they cannot, for neither has forgotten the other. Can Daniel make things right and show Rebecca how much he loves her? Will Rebecca forgive Daniel for his past mistakes or will she move on based on her uncle's demands?
I get so excited when I see Erica has a new book available. One of my favorite authors. Started this book Friday night..finished it Sunday. Great book! Had a great storyline. Can't wait for her next book!

***ARC received in exchange of an honest opinion***
This book is good, but I'm still waiting for the actual story. I feel like nothing happened.
It was very rushed and I missed the Romance in it. Connecting with any character was too hard, I feel like there wasn't enough time to like them.
The premisse is good, so is the plot, I just wish the book was longer, so the story could have been built.
Loved this tale of the true meaning of love. More than emotions, in this story the reader sees love played out unselfishly in the actions of both Rebecca and Daniel. Look forward to reading more books by this author!
Romancing the Rogue by Erica Ridley is an absolute delight to read. #2 in the her exciting "Gothic Historical Romance" series, which, it can be read as stand alone.
**It originally featured in the Anthololoy "Vexed", which is were I first encountered this fantastic read.** I also enjoyed it so much, when the opportunity arose, I purchased it as an individual read. Yes, it is that good!
A quick read that is easy to read and the characters easily capture your heart. 188 pages, packed full of entertainment, an interesting and intriguing plot, as well as characters who are charming and need a second chance in life and love.
"Romancing the Rogue" is the story of
Daniel Goodenham, Lord North-Barrows and Miss Rebecca Bond. Daniel, unfortunately, shunned Rebecca years ago, he was the only man she ever loved and Rebecca was the only woman who ever treated Daniel as a man not a title.
When the new earl inherits, Rebecca finds herself the "poor relation", about to be kicked out of her home. Enter, fate and Daniel.... Can Daniel, now win her forgiveness and win her heart?
Rebecca is a strong, self reliant, and self sufficient lady with brains and intelligence. A very strong, likable and realistic character. Daniel, on the other hand, needed time to mature into the man he has become in order to realize what he really wants out of life.
Together these two great characters find forgiveness, healing, the discovery that old wounds can heal to find HEA.
Easy to read, the characterizations and the vivid descriptions added the emotionally charged moments to make "Romancing the Rogue" a really wicked, but delicious romp in Regency England. I was so captured by the characters, the scenery and of course, the plot, I couldn't put "Romancing the Rogue" down, until the very last page. This is one of those read you can re-read over and over again.
Once again, Ms. Ridley has brought readers a perfect escape through the world of Regency England. I have never been disappointed in one of Erica Ridley's masterfully written stories, in fact, I always look forward to her next grand adventure. She is one of my favorite Regency Romance authors.
Fans of Regency Romance, strong heroines, determined heroes, redemption, forgiveness, captivating characters, quick reads, and the thrill of romance are truly in for a treat.
A definite must read Regency Romance! I strongly recommend picking up a copy of "Romancing the Rogue", for yourself, I don't feel your be disappointed.

Three and a half stars. There was more than enough plot to make this into a novel and I felt this was too short and too rushed.
Miss Rebecca Bond has lived like a ghost in the Cornish castle, Castle Keyvnor, belonging to her uncle the Earl of Banfield after she left London five years earlier following her humiliation by her childhood friend Daniel Goodenham, Lord North Barrows. Few people even remember that Rebecca exists and she wanders the castle like an invisible sprite correcting the Steward's ledgers and tidying up for the maids when they are away.
But when the old Earl dies his heir decides that Rebecca must marry, he won't hear of a mere woman being given her own dowry to do with how she sees fit. In desperation Rebecca devises a plan to get her old friend to Castle Keyvnor to teach her how to flirt so that she can catch a husband that suits her, rather than the new Earl.
Daniel has always regretted that he behaved so badly to his childhood friend, especially since he has always been in love with her. When he receives a summons to Castle Keyvnor for the reading of the Earl's will he sees his opportunity to make things right with Rebecca. But how can they be together when he loves London and she loves Cornwall? And what would his irascible grandmother say to the match?
This definitely starts with a very gothic feel, Rebecca roams the castle unheard and unseen, the castle is rumoured to be haunted (perhaps because of Rebecca) and the wind whips around the castle and its wild grounds. As I said earlier, the themes didn't really get developed because of the short format of the novella, hence the gothic start wasn't sustained throughout the novella.
I liked it but I didn't love it.
I received this from the author/Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This was a good, short read. It was fun to read I just wasn't a huge fan of the guy. He was a huge jerk who had a change of heart way too fast. It was a fast moving story just needed more.
I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
While I usually find novellas to be too short for the story, or too long with unnecessary scenes, this one was well done in length and pace. The chemistry between the main characters was well established and the social barriers that kept them apart as teenagers are still evident, but better navigated as adults. In short, this was a lovely read for a cold winter's evening.
Miss Rebecca Bond has lived at haunted Castle Keyvnor for 5 years ever since her parents died in a boating accident. Her great uncle the Earl of Banfield having given the destitute seventeen year old a home. The Earl of Banfield dies & the new Earl insists Rebecca must wed within the next three months or he will choose a husband for her. Daniel Goodenham, Viscount North Barrows is the only man she’s ever loved he’s summoned to hear the will but he already rejected her so soundly that they haven’t spoken in years. Daniel has constantly thought about Rebecca & how he rejected her & his grandmother’s role in it & whom he no longer speaks to. As soon as Daniel receives the letter inviting him to the will reading he leaves London for Castle Keyvnor hoping to make amends with Rebecca.
I originally read this story in the Vexed anthology, it’s an enjoyable story that I read in one session both Daniel & Rebecca are still attracted to each other, in face Rebecca has always loved Daniel. It’s a story of second chances & realising to do what you want rather than what a relative prescribes. Daniel is very sweet to give Rebecca the chance to choose her way forward, I did want to shake him at times for his dithering but he got there in the end
I throughly enjoyed this story!
I love that theses childhood friends had a second chance at love. Even though Daniel broke Rebecca's heart, she couldn't deny that she still had feeling for him once they were reunited. I loved watching Daniel try to win back Rebecca's friendship and learning that his feelings go much deeper than he thought.
This was a very quick, enjoyable read that you don't want to miss!
Sweet historical romance about childhood sweethearts ripped apart by life in the times.
Rebecca's pedigree wasn't enough for his grandmother and he wanted to please the old bat at the time.
After the unexpected death of her parents, she remained with the relative she'd been staying with, making herself fade into the woodwork, so to speak, if she wasn't noticed, she'd be allowed to remain....until the old Lord's death. That event brought Daniel back into her life.
Will he stay this time? Read the tale of the start of her never ending feelings for him and his feelings for her. Short and sweet, great read if you have to spend time waiting, the time will fly by.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and loved it.
As much as I loved the hero and the heroine I was a bit disappointed in the end when everything turned out just fine - just like that. I even turned back some pages because I thought that I might have missed something. It was a believable and realistic ending but something was lacking. Rebecca starts to hunt for a husband and - poof - game over. Husband found. Not necessarily the one she expected but...well.
On the whole I was also irritated when suddenly the heroine was not just some "ghost" anymore haunting the estate but somehow without anybody really caring for her, but someone with a maid who accompagnies her and so on, even though before nobody even knew anymore that she existed (Horrible idea! Made me think how many spinsters and their likes may have had a similar fate in those times. Non-existent and invisible to those around them and just happy for the roof over their heads. ) and her uncle didn't strike me as someone who'd take care that everybody is aware of her needs and her presence.
I really liked Rebecca and her strong and independent ways, I liked how she defied society and their opinions again and again and showed her briliance and her strong character along the way.
I know that Daniel was also very young when they first met and still rather young and insecure when all the bad stuff went down but nevertheless I was really upset with him - despite the fact that I like him. Fortunately for him (and my patience), he remembers at last that he has a backbone and that he should trust Rebecca otherwise I would have been a very unhappy reader. Due to his new-found backbone and so on, I liked the book in the end even though it is not a book that I will read again very soon.
