I really enjoyed this book. As the teacher in charge of stocking the senior school library, I like to ensure that the books are diverse and the students are exposed to both excellent fiction and excellent modern non-fiction. I think that this is both a fascinating and well-written book that has much to recommend it and will keep the students interests. It is good to stretch their reading interests by providing them with books about subjects they might never have considered before and this definitely does the job well. It is also good to find books that I know the teaching staff might enjoy as well as the students and I definitely think that this applies in both cases. Absolutely recommend wholeheartedly; a fantastic read.

A brave story, well told. A woman whose story puts our own lives into sharp focus. Made me want to be a better person. I know that sounds trite but this was an inspiring story.

While reading this I didn't know that this was more of a snippet, rather than an actual book. This does seem promising and I would like to read the full version, but it is hard to give an accurate review from the snippet that I have read.

A powerful and harrowing tale of strength and survival, well written, that will move even the coldest heart to tears.

This is very powerful, brave and broken story at the times. It involves heartbreak and human race fall, powerful mass influence that goes on and on killing innocent humans who are respecting other cultures and their religions.

The book won't leave anyone ignorant, it is one of the many stories that has to be read and heard. People and the author who survived the mass horrible terror has a long way to go and live with the experience she was forced to go through and loose everyone from her family and home village. These are humans that live in their villages and get involved in a war that is not theirs, that they don't want to be a part of. The author has survived and was lucky to escape being enslaved under Isis, woman and children as such are the most vulnerable in human trafficking.

I got to read an extract of this and I can't wait to read more.

This was only an intro and not the book. Disappointing.

Not sure what happened but have only downloaded the introduction and not the full book.

This is a review of what is available to download on Netgalley. I have a suspicion that the book is going to be very good, but having read a few pages, googled Yazidi's and learnt about their culture and religion; I settled down to immerse myself in their world. Only for the book to end a few pages later.
This is NOT an ARC but a tiny extract which isn't mentioned at all in the details when you request it.
Sadly it has now soured me towards the publishers for deciding to do this and I am unlikely to buy the book when it is published.

This is a powerful and timely read. Murad's story needs to be read and re-read.

Even though there are only a few pages to read, I can tell this is a wonderful memoir and I can't wait to read it.
Thank you.

(Review of the excerpt.) The incredible story of an extremely brave young woman.

Nadia Murad was in her last year of high school when ISIS invaded her village of Kocho, Iraq. The ISIS soldiers committed a savage genocidal campaign against the Yazidi people. Six of Nadia’s brothers were among the hundreds of men killed in the Kocho massacre on August 15, 2o14. Along with thousands of other Yazidi people, Nadia was held captive and subject to horrific brutality. They were told to convert to Islam or they would be executed. Her mother was executed because she was “too old” to be enslaved. Nadia managed to escape captivity and is now raising awareness of the atrocities committed against the Yazidi people and leading the campaign for the Muslim world to reject ISIS and condemn their crimes. Her mission includes anti-radicalisation measures.
