t's 1944. Londoners are weary of air raids and rationing. But now, with rumours of an invasion of France, the tide of war seems to be turning. In Lavender Road, however, everyone still has challenges to face.

Young widow Louise Rutherford longs to make a new life for herself. When a glamorous American officer arrives at her factory to recruit volunteers for a secret project, she senses an opportunity, only to find her efforts hampered by ten-year-old war orphan, George Nelson.

Jen Carter's relationship with theatrical producer Henry Keller hits a hurdle when an old flame reappears. And when V1 retaliation rockets start hitting London, her mother Joyce's tentative romance is threatened too.

Will the war finally wear down the women of Lavender Road, or can love thrive even in the toughest of times?
This is book number five in a series and is an enjoyable easy read that is alright as a stand alone book or as read in the series - Family Saga type book at its best.

What a great series this is - every new book seems like a reunion with friends, and they are always something to look forward to. This one involved itself mostly with events in Lavender Road, which I much prefer to the dramatic espionage of some of the others in the series. Each book tells the story of all the characters, but focusses more on one particular person. This time it was Louise, and slowly we begin to see her in a different light as she has to learn to make some difficult changes.

I enjoyed the first three novels of the Lavender Road series and was really pleased when I saw on Amazon that she was going to add another three books to the series.

The Other Side of the Street, is a wonderful story continuing the lives of the residents of Lavender Road during World War II. What is so enjoyable is the ups and downs of peoples lives and how the impact on others, how some have good luck while others luck isn't so good and how this can all change. What is very good is the character development. In the first three books Louise Rutherford is the spoilt daughter of wealthy parents, as the story continues she faces many difficulties and has very testing times, which leads her to become a very mature, understanding woman.

A very good novel and many thanks to Netgalley for my advance copy.
