I really loved this book! The chemistry between Jenny and Chance was so unexpected and it hooked me from the first chapter. I enjoyed reading about their made up adventures and the way they bantered back and forth. Jenny and Chance were adorable together!

While I was expecting a more lighthearted read, there was also more depth to this book. The things the characters experienced made my heart ache for them especially Chance, because even though he was a “bad boy” there was so much more to him. As for Jenny, I loved how she started to come out of her shell when she was with Chance. This book truly exceeded my expectations!

Summary: Everyone knows that Jenny and Chance have been friends since childhood...except they haven't.  Jenny and Chance actually meet on the first day of their Oral Communication class.  They are assigned to interview each other about their summer experiences and then tell their story to class.  Instead of a boring "What I Did On My Summer Vacation" presentation they decide to make up a whole life together...and everyone believes it.  As the two keep spending time together their fake friendship becomes very real just as their feeling for each other deepen they may not be able to stay "just friends".

Review: This is one of those romance book that's just super cute.  The whole story is the slow journey of Jenny and Chance realizing that they should be more than "just friends" (if this is a spoiler I am sorry however if this surprises you then you really are not familiar with this genre).  Jenny and Chance are likable and had all the makings of a perfect romance pairing.  He was all damaged with his bad reputation and even worse home life while she is the smartest girl in school just trying to learn how to live her life outside of academia.  Sounds super cute, right?  And it totally is but there was just something that didn't quite work for me.  I enjoyed the book but it just didn't quite get to awesome for me and I think my issues all start with the pop culture references.  The book is filled with references to "Sixteen Candles", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", and "Clueless" which wouldn't normally be a problem but the sheer amount of them made the book feel dated even though it was based in the present. Plus, even though Jenny and Chance are adorable I never really felt like I completely connected with the characters beyond them being generally amusing.  The whole book ended up feeling like one of those 90s romcoms that I never really seek out but whenever I stumble across them on cable I lose the next two hours watching them.

Bottomline: This is a fast fluffy read that will appeal to fans of YA romantic fiction.

Final Rating: 3 out of 5

Super fun read, almost like watching an 80's teen movie in my mind! Jenny and Chance are not friends, but after a class where they are paired together they create this crazy backstory of how they have been BFF's forever. This unlikely duo forms a bond as their story and friendship grows, and they realize that sometimes the best friends you never really had are the ones you really needed to help you though those tough times in life. Well written and swoony, this was a good read and I look forward to more from the author!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a great high school love triangle. Where two friends have feeling for each other but don't tell each other. These two also have issues at home and are best friends. I loved their relationship and that they were always there for each other. It was fasted paced and I love it I read it throughout the night because I had to know what happened next. I would recommend it to anyone who loves YA books

I couldn't finish this book, sadly. The writing was underdeveloped, the characters were cliché and dull, in and nothing really even happened from what I read.

I fell in love with this book from the first chapters. Jenny and Chase are meant for each other and everyone can see it but them. I love the back and forth points of view. Worked well for this story!

DNF - had to stop about 30% into the book.

Chance takes a seat next to Jenny in class and they partner up to have a dialogue in front of the class about their summer. Chance tells Jenny to follow his lead and they end up making up dialogue about being friends since childhood.

OK I think to myself let's see where this goes.....unfortunately it didn't go very far.

Chance is good looking and popular while Jenny is a bookworm, quiet and shy. There was no chemistry between the characters. Not even sure why they liked each other.

The most annoying things were the little details. Jenny has a little sister who is 4 years old but sleeps all the time and only talks in one word sentences. Jenny's father left when her mother was pregnant with the now 4 year old but they haven't mowed their lawn since he left. After Chance and Jenny do their "made-up" dialogue in front of the class their classmates start remembering times when they saw the two of them together. Even Jenny's best friend believes in their made up friendship.

I found the little details too distracting to continue reading.

When Jenny & Chance create an elaborate lie to kick off the first class after summer, they are surprised at how easy it was to do that and how it feels like they have known each other forever. As the charade transforms into real friendship both Jenny & Chance are getting something more than friendship that they need; Chance is getting some much needed stability and Jenny is finally breaking free from her self imposed shell. When these feelings become more than friendly will Jenny & Chance be able to move forward without ruining their friendship? A fun read that had me rooting for these two til the very end!
