I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, suspense, secrets, and heartbreak.

Before reading this story please read the below books first
Royal Scandal (Royals in Exile #1)

This is Charlotte and Brooks’s story. Brooks is all about exposing the Royals but when he meets Charlotte he ends up re-thinking that. But is he really re-thinking it or is he out for everything he can expose including her? Charlotte normally does not break any rules but now she decided she can. But is she playing a game she never knew she was involved in? Or is Brooks after her heart and not a story? Can these two figure things out or is everything about to crash down around them?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

This is book two in the series. You should read Royal Scandal first to get an overall understanding of the family. Loved Brooks and Charolette. They are so perfect together. She's a princess second in line to her twin sister, Imogen, the queen. She does not really want anything to do with the royal court. She is known as the wallflower of her family always being quiet and sweet. At one of the royal balls, she does something so out of character and leaves with a journalist that has previously written about her family. Her brothers and sister dislike him very much, but Charolette has been pining over him and his social media sites for years. They strike up a deal with each other and one thing leads to another. These two are sweet, funny, and sexy together. I loved all the secrets about this royal family. This is a great story that I just couldn't put down. Can not wait for Theo's story. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy.

What happens when second in line to the throne falls for a reporter who has exposed the Royal Families secrets in the past ....
Charlotte is the shy princess who has always dreamed of meeting her prince, she has only ever wanted to fall in love and have her own family without the pressure of becoming Queen.
Brooks Walker owns Walker Media and he has made no secret that part of his job is exposing the Royal families secrets but that was before he got close to the princess who has secretly had a crush on him for quite a while.
Brooks and Charlotte start an affair but then feelings come into play and both realise just how important they are to each other, can love win or will the past and the secrets that they both hold tear them apart.
This was a fairy tale that captivated me, it had enough mystery to keep me interested and it was romantic and sweet. A easy to read and easy to love story, looking forward to more in The Royals in Exile Series.

Princess Charlotte Sinclair is just trying to avoid bringing any more shame to her family. Exiled from their homeland, the royal Sinclairs have been through enough without the princess causing any more trouble. The trouble is that there’s nothing Charlotte wants more than Brooks Walker, a drop-dead-sexy journalist with no qualms about dragging her family through the mud.

The first couple chapters of Royal Affair were included in the back of Royal Scandal, so I was already looking forward to this book months ago. I knew that I’d love Charlotte just from that little excerpt. (And, let’s be honest, I had no problem with Brooks, either.) One thing that I do want to mention is although this book is about different characters, and Colin and Della really aren’t featured too heavily here, you really do need to read Royal Scandal first in order to understand what’s going on. Even just taking a couple months between books left me scrambling to remember what exactly had happened in the previous installment.

Anyway -- Though Charlotte and Brooks are opposites, they have such an obvious connection that I couldn’t help but root for them. Sure, there are some dramatics that interfere with their happily-ever-after, but both these characters deserved the world. And, as you might expect, though their affair starts as a breezy “I’ll call you when I want you” kind of thing, soon they’re head-over-heels for each other and not quite sure what to do about it.

I did really enjoy their relationship, and the book was well-written as all of Marquita Valentine’s books are, but there were some conflicts within the book that felt unnecessary or were difficult to follow. Theo’s book is up next, and of course I will read (and probably love) it.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

While I enjoyed the royal characters in this book and its precursor, I found the language to be a little bit too crass and that really took away from the love story for me personally. Otherwise, the characters were fun and I was happy about the ending but I don't know that I could recommend this book because of the intense language which was a bit more than I enjoy in a romance.

We are first introduced to Princess Charlotte. She's as far from scandalous as one can get; the dutiful, honest, princess. (Let's re-evaluate just how dutiful Charlotte is in a bit...) Her twin sister, the soon-to-be Queen, seems to be getting all the attention lately which overshadows the filthy thoughts Charlotte has been harboring for a certain journalist...

This journalist - Brooks (aka The Debonair Devil) - happens to be same man who exposed her family's secrets years prior. 😏

"I can see the headline now: SPOILED PRINCESS DEMANDS FREE FOOD FROM SMALL BUSINESS. No. Too long.
PRINCESS CHARLOTTE'S PUBLIC BREAKDOWN.
Perfect."

Oh yes, this read is definitely scandalous! Marquita Valentine is giving us delicious, saucy, conflict!

Charlotte and Brooks conjure up a little arrangement where he can write about her... if she can have her wicked way with him. Charlotte wants to have an affair with the man who betrayed her family?? Goodbye dutiful innocent girl! Send Charlotte's heart into the inferno now! Of course, Brooks must leave out the intimate parts of their relationship.

Does he leave out intimate details?... Unfortunately, I am not able to tell you because I didn't it finish this book.

Now you're asking, "But why, NDP?"

This forbidden romance starts too quickly. The affair is so abrupt and out of character for Charlotte, it was difficult for me to associate with her. She's reserved one moment, and a hellion the next. Instantaneous combustion! Now, Charlotte is having one of those desperate I-NEED-CHANGE moments, so she's not particularly thinking about the long term effects of her actions... but the build up to this moment was incomplete. Her change in character was too random and under developed for me.

Now, this is just me... I know y'all love a good spur of the moment romance! WhooEEE hop on the Marquita Valentine train! 🚂

Brooks Walker? Ummm YES. Marquita Valentine kidnapped my heart and Brooks tied me up with his sweet words. Royal Affair definitely has its share of swoony men!

Charlotte's character spoiled this book for me... and rather quickly. But hey, I enjoyed being kidnapped while it lasted.

I'm loving this series by Marquita Valentine!
Princess Charlotte wants nothing more than to be a normal woman with a normal life, but she can't because she is a princess, and the spare princess no less. When all of her family secrets were leaked she thought her life could be more normal, but that hasn't happened.
Charlotte decides that she wants to step out of her responsible role and do something for herself and a little naughty so she propositions Brooks Walker with an agreement that he can't turn down.
Brooks thought he knew what he wanted in life, to be the best journalist that he possibly can, but that all changes when his princess propositions him with a no strings attached affair. He soon finds that his life plans are changing to include the one person that he thought was off limits.

Marquita Valentine became an auto-buy author for me from the very first book I read. I adored the first book in the Royals in Exile series and was so excited to see that we would get Charlotte's story in Royal Affair.

Charlotte became one of my favorite characters very quickly in this series. She is considered the "spare" twin since her sister Imogen is the crown princess. She is somewhat of a wallflower and that only endeared Charlotte to me even more. However, she steps outside her comfort zone thanks to Brooks Walker. Brooks owns Walker Media and is the man behind the world finding out about the Sinclairs being in hiding. I loved that both Brooks and Charlotte couldn't seem to stay away from each other even with both knew Charlotte's family would hate them being together for more than a fling.

Brooks and Charlotte connected on so many levels. They had amazing chemistry, and I loved they shared everything about their pasts with one another. I thing part of the reason I loved Brooks and Charlotte as a couple is because they each accepted the other exactly as they appeared. I loved that Brooks and Charlotte really couldn't stay away from each other. Yes their love scenes were both hot at times and sweet at others, but they really loved spending time together.

Charlotte knew all along that Brooks wanted dirt on her family, yet couldn't seem to stay away from him. I have to say that Brooks surprised me a bit by not sharing everything he learned about the Sinclairs as soon as he was given information. I think Brooks had been perceived as a bit of a villain for so long, it was nice to see his hero side come out. I really felt like we saw the real Brooks when he was with Charlotte and his family. I actually found myself falling in love with Brooks right along with Charlotte.

I really only had a couple of issues with the book. One was the fact that Charlotte's family acted like she couldn't think for herself. She is a strong and intelligent woman and they treated her like she couldn't handle life. I also had issues with how Imogen acted a few times. Yes I felt like she made up for it in the end, but I really hated how she interfered with Brooks and Charlotte's relationship at one point.

Royal Affair is another winner in the Royals in Exile series. The romance between Brooks and Charlotte is strong and I loved watching them fall for one another. The Royals in Exile series is one of my favorite series from Marquita Valentine. I personally think readers need to read the series in order to understand the dynamics of the family and their history. I'm super excited we will get Theo's book next and can't wait to read his story.

Stop what you are doing and get this book! Actually, if you are OCD like me and like to read series in the proper order, you should probably start with Royals in Exile #1, Royal Scandal (which is just as juicy!).
"Royal Affair" is a most exquisite story of Princess Charlotte and her extremely frowned upon time with the owner and editor of a gossip website. Charlotte, a twin to the soon-to-be queen of a faraway land, loves the attention after being the one never really noticed. Obviously, who she is with does not go over with her family. But Princess Charlotte is not dumb...

Brooks Walker, the 'royal' press stalker (I use in jest), discovered Princess Charlotte on Instagram. Although he thinks he is the one in control, he soon realizes that she is just as much of a player in this game. On the surface, Brooks seems like a millionaire playboy with all of the attributes to go along with it, while deep inside there's so much more to his backstory and life.

What will become of Princess Charlotte and Brooks once 'his' and 'her' =his/tories intertwine? What secrets will he uncover that he can share? What doesn't he share because he knows it will destroy the very foundation they have built?

Marquita Valentine has a great sense of humor, which is what keeps me so engrossed in her stories and characters. Along with well-developed characters and only a 'somewhat' predictable storyline, as soon as I was finished, I immediately went to find the other books in this series so I could find out what I had missed in book #1. It took me about 24 hours to finish that book as well...you will love them all!

Brooks and Charlotte are amazing! I love their story, and how they were willing to fight for each other! I can't wait for the next book in this wonderful series!

I loved this second book in the Royals in Exile series. The chemistry between Charlotte & Brooks was hot from the start, with their exclusive relationship supposed to be an affair only, it quickly turns to more. As their relationship starts to grow Charlotte worries about the secrets she's hiding from Brooks, secrets that could change everything. Brooks has to deal with an attack on his company by investors that want the Royal secrets outed. This leads Brooks to have to decide what he wants more, his company or Charlotte & his answer is pretty clear. We also see the changes that bring Brooks & his family together again because of Charlotte. Likewise we see a growth & renewed strength in Charlotte as she has something to fight for & something to fight against with Brooks. Definitely recommend.

Royal Affair by Marquita Valentine (Amazon | B&N | Kobo) is a surprisingly sweet novel in the hot Royals in Exile series. The wallflower, Charlotte has always been intrigued by Brooks, the online personality that basically outed her family. He’s the worst person to have an affair with or, maybe the best? Brooks and Charlotte embark on an unlikely tryst that could end in more than just broken hearts. These opposites prove that love sometimes comes at a price, but the end is worth the ride. Also, I LOVE these covers!

Will what starts as an affair lead to something more? You'll be turning the pages rapidly to find out! Awesome twist for an ending.

Captivating! This was a Sexy, Sweet, Fun, Royal Romance. Royal romances are what all our fairy tales are made of and I couldn't and didn't want to put this down, the chemistry between Princess Charlotte and Brooks Walker is off the charts and this story takes you along with them on a whirlwind seduction in a forbidden, sexy romance that was full of charm and passion.
Charlotte Sinclair is the wallflower princess, as the spare heir to her twin sister Queen Imogene. She is tired of being a prisoner in a lovely gilded cage, and not being allowed any sort of freedom. She has always been the good responsible one, but that is about to change. She has decided to break the rules for some of her own happiness and I was cheering her on.
Brooks Walker, is the enemy as CEO of Walker Media, he is the most unsuitable man in existence for a princess like Charlotte since he is the person that exposed her whole family's secrets to the entire world. So why is she so taken by this man? Could it be his cocky, confident, million, watt smile, gleaming, blue eyes fringed with heavy dark lashes, his full lips, high cheek bones, or that he is so handsome, maybe it is that he is 6 foot 3 inches and so fit, so sexy, with his divine abs.
Charlotte has had a crush on Brooks from the first time she saw him. After the best kiss in the history of kisses between them, Charlotte proposes a strictly exclusive physical affair to Brooks. Their relationship is fun, deliciously sexy, and I loved getting caught up in their affair and watching them fall. But when Brooks is blackmailed will he betray Charlotte's trust?
You don't want to miss this fun, deliciously sexy and sizzling affair between these two! The heat will scorch your fingers as you turn the pages. So if you love Royal Stories, love, sizzling Romance, sizzling Chemistry, as well as intrigue and blackmail this is a must read for sure! LOVED IT! I Highly Recommend this Captivating Romance!

I'm a sucker for "commoner falls in love with royalty" stories and this was a quick, enjoyable read. It was nice to have a princess, instead of a prince, this time around and her particular family dynamics took the novel in some interesting directions. I also liked the behind-the-scenes aspect of Brooks's job at essentially what is TMZ and what it would mean for him to date royalty when he is a purveyor of celebrity gossip.

At the same time, I had a hard time believing their insta-love and some of the choices Charlotte and Brooks make. Overall, I wanted more depth from these characters and for the plot to be less predictable. At the same time, it was a nice way to spend a few hours. I haven't read the first book and I'm curious enough from the references in this one to want to see how that particular story went down.

This was a real fun and surprising package that I probably loved a bit more than the first book of the series? In their circumstances, talk about drama. Yet the weasel of a reporter held his own against the princess and the royal family. (If you read book 1, you know what I'm talking about). Alpha right there. With balls of steal yet somehow the princess knows how to bring him to his knees. Even while keeping him on his toes. And boy does she ever. I loved how these two never held back with each other even when trying to put both their foot down on something. Seeing which one win each round was grade-A humor. Then when they eventually fell for each other against their better judgement was surprising (again, when you think about their roles in their past). Throughout the story, they helped each other grow and mature and that was good to see.

Book Review: 4.5 Princess stars!!

Damn, Marquita is on the roll!! First Colin and now Charlotte! And I bet all my money that Theo and then Imogen will blow me even more away. These Sinclair siblings are proving to be quite a deal. And I can’t help fall madly in love with each one of them.

Royal Affair is the second installment in the Royals in Exile series. In the first book, Royal Scandal, we met Colin Sinclair and followed his romance with his best friend, Della, and savored their HEA. Now, Charlotte’s turn has arrived to lay out her love story. Charlotte and Imogen are the twin sisters of the Sinclair family. Now, you might wonder why the second book is about Charlotte and not Imogen. Well, for those who have read the first book, you already know that the Sinclairs were exiled from their country after their parents’s death. Also, you know that at the end of Colin’s story, Charlotte did something that caused their exposure to the public. Which in turn caused one specific journalist to set his sights on them and set on broadcasting their secrets.

"She’s made her decision. Who am I to deny a princess?"

Brooks Walker is a journalist and the CEO of his online company, Walker Media. Brooks didn’t know anything about The Sinclair’s location until the moment he stambled onto Charlotte’s post on IG. From there, there was only one way this situation would play out. Although, neither he nor Charlotte saw what was coming down the road. Ironically, both got obsessed with each other’s posts on social media; but for different reasons. Or so that’s what they were telling themselves. One moment was all it took for these two lovers to find their way to each other. Everything started with a deal which neither could shoot down. The thing between them escalated pretty fast and in the end, both ended up with something that they needed more than anything but they wouldn’t admit it to themselves.

"A wallflower she might be, but this flower can weather anything. "

Both characters have a very strong presence in the book and their head-strongness only adds to that intensity. It’s like watching two wild animals fighting for domination. That’s not where the battles stop. Each one of them during the whole journey they take together is indulging into its own mind-heart battle. Especially Brooks whose battle is the most vocal one and more intense. Almost from the very beginning, he finds himself experiencing feelings for Charlotte and creating subconsiously a connection with her which ends up being impossible and unwanted to break. But Chalotte isn’t far behind on that account. She knows that she was super attracted to him while looking only his posts. He was for a long time a sexy fantasy of hers which pushed her to propose the deal that set everything in motion. Though her heart and body attach themselves more and more every day with him, her mind and her responsibilities towards her family holds her back from living her desire to the fullest. But when there is an undeniable love connection between two people, these obstacles only makes them that much stronger and lasting.

"I know most women want a Prince Charming, but you can have him and the castle. Give me the villain who will take me away from it all… and never gives me back. "

Another two things that I loved about this book was first, the relationship and interraction of Brooks with his twin – talk about coincidence – and second, the hints Marquita was throwing here there about Imogen’s story, even though I know it’s two books and a lot of months down the line. Brooks and his twin brother have a relationship that has been through a lot but neither stopped loving each other, even in the shadows. The entertainment I got from these two every time they were together and the hilariously amazing dialogues they were indulging themselves into, were more than enough to make me love this couple and story even more. Also, the thing that along with the captivating love story, Valentine was extrolling the tight and soul-mate-y connection the twin siblings – not only Brooks and his brother, but also Charlotte and Imogen – share, is something that always make me cherish this book even more. As for the hints, the only thing I want to say is that the way their place in the story was beyond clever. From the one side, they made me even more impatient about reading her own journey through love and from the other, was providing underground aid to the evolution of her sister’s affair with Brooks.

Marquita Valentine has never stopped surprising me with how good each new book of hers is. Her love stories are super special and they have an incredible, balanced dose of fairy tales that you can’t deny. This new series of hers definitely has become one of my favorites and one whose each book I wait at the end of my seat to read. Thank god Royal Chase isn’t that far away so I will be able to dive really soon in The Sinclairs pool of romance. As for the forth book, Royal Duty (Imogen’s story), September never looked more remote.

5 Romantic Crowns

I feel like I just read a fairy-tale, albeit dirtier than normal! Every single sweet and steamy moment between Charlotte and Brooks swept me up in their romance, and by the end of this book I was completely suffused with happiness.

Charlotte and Brooks are magical together. She is the shy and often introverted princess who is looking for freedom, and she is brave and asks for it in the form of Brooks. Brooks, who readers have met in the previous book, is CEO of Walker Media and is solely responsible for exposing her family in the news. Even though these two couldn't be more wrong for each other on paper, they are completely perfect for each other in every way. She brings him back to his roots and gets him to focus more on what matters: families, morals, and his initial desire to work in the media. He gets her to venture outside of the tower in which she has imprisoned herself. Their relationship is one that requires sacrifice, but both are willing to do it for each other and their love. And, really, what can be more romantic than than two people willing to give up things that matter to them for love. It is the essence of any fairy-tale.

I loved this story from the very first chapter. Charlotte's sweetness pulled me in, and Brooks's demeanor is everything I love in an alpha hero. He pushes her when appropriate and demands in the bedroom, but he allows Charlotte to be who she is. Watching their affair develop into more that lust was the sweetest and steamiest romance and I can remember in some time. The ending is completely rewarding, and in true Sinclair fashion, this family rallies, and readers the affirmation that real love can survive anything.

Royals in Exile novels are quickly becoming one of my favorite royal romances. Partly because I love the Sinclair family and partly because these stories are the essence of sweet romance with a dash of dirty, and I cannot wait for more of from this monarchy.
