Royal Affair by Marquita Valentine is the second book in her Royals in Exile Series. I recommend reading the books in order for maximum enjoyment as the character development and the key premise are set up in book one, Royal Scandal.

Princess Charlotte might look exactly like her twin sister Imogen, but otherwise, they’re nothing alike. Princess Charlotte is a quiet wallflower. She is not comfortable in large crowds let alone with being the center of attention. Thank goodness, her twin, Imogen, is the heir apparent.

Typical of many an introvert, Charlotte explores the world virtually through blogging and social media. That is how she has become aware of Brook Walker. He’s a sexy journalist who aggressively searches out the skeletons in any celebrity’s closet. While he feels setting the truth free is a noble cause, the celebrities and debutants he reports on think he is the scourge of the Earth. In reality, Brooks is a pretty good guy who has lost track of his own values while aggressively pursing his career aspirations.

Brooks’ ulterior motives are soon abandoned when he finally meets and becomes smitten with ingénue Charlotte. While I couldn’t bring myself to trust Brooks, Charlotte did, and Imogen was content to allow Charlotte a little room to get him out of her system. If only her brothers were equally willing to let Charlotte have some freedom!

Brooks and Charlotte explore each other’s bodies and discover one another’s charms while the nefarious Davies is again plotting the demise of the royal family. As part of Davies enticement, he has set up Brooks for sure failure to ensure his assistance in executing his plan. Will Davies be able to tempt Brooks to spill royal secrets on his scandalous gossip rag? That depends on how much Brooks values Charlotte over the success of his business!

From the beginning, there is little doubt that Charlotte and Brooks will get their much-deserved HEA ending. The enjoyment is in their journey. Unexpected familial assistance as well as the expected negative outside influences make for an interesting, quick-paced contemporary romance. Royal affair is a charming, light-hearted read.

There is always something exciting when reading about a royal family. They play by different rules and have years of tradition set in place. As the Sinclair family finds themselves back at the Royal helm, princess Charlotte again has to face her anxiety at balls and dealing with large crowds. Her sister is getting ready to become Queen and Charlotte just wants to fade into the background. Brooks is the bad guy who exposed the family, but he is the only one who truly sees the wallflower, Charlotte. Suddenly digging up dirt on the Sinclair family isn't as important as keeping Charlotte safe and protected. This was a great reverse fairy tale, where the villain truly becomes the hero. I thought it was a really good read. Loved watching Charlotte and Brooks find their way.

Loved loved this book!!! I was hooked from the first page. I have been a fan of Marquita's for years and this book made me more of a fan. If that is possible.

Charlotte and Brooks' story picks up right where Colin & Della's story ends. I love that transition from one sibling to the next. In Colin and Della's story we were introduced to Charlotte and Brooks. I am so glad that we got to see their love story unfold.

I loved watching Charlotte go from the wallflower of the family to standing her ground. Spunky Charlotte came to the party and she rocked it! And Brooks, who in the first book was the villain, to get to see his side and read his thoughts was awesome. Loved how human it made him.

I am not sure how many times I used LOVED up above to describe this book, but it really was amazing. I was sucked in! I love when an author can take characters and make you feel with them. Marquita has this talent!

I highly recommend this book. I also recommend reading the first book in the series before reading this book. It just helps give a little more background in the Sinclair family. I read both books in less than 24 hours :) I can't wait until the other two Sinclairs get to share their stories!

***I received an ARC from Loveswept Publishing via NetGalley. I reviewed this book voluntarily.***

I think I love Charlotte and Brooks more than I loved Colin and Della. This series keeps getting better and better. I really enjoyed Charlotte's breakout from being a wallflower. Brooks shows that villains may actually be the hero in the end. I can't wait to see where this series goes to next!

Note, I did receive an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This isn't your typical royal affair! These royals are exiles, so many secrets of the family name that the whole world want's to know.. And one man did just that, Brooks Walker.

Princess Charlotte is a kind, sweet, caring woman. But she want's to see the outside walls of the estate. She want's love!

Then Brooks pops into her life quite unexpectedly. The good girl and the very bad boy! Charlottes world will turn upside down, by the choices she makes....

Who will she choose, love or family?

First of all I have to say i've started writting a review 3 times and wasn't satisfied with my words because i didn't think i described all prasie that it deserves. So i think i finally did and here it is:

I've been waiting for this book since November when i received ARC of ROYAL SCANDAL and i have to say it was the longes wait ever but worth every minute of it. I think i fell (a little) in love with Brooks in Hard to fall and then i hated him (a little) when he exposed the Sinclars to the world.

But reading this book i was just soooo happy for Charlotte that she decided to brake a few rules for a little piece of happines even if i was meant to be just for a little while. I always find it funny when men in the books think they can "escape" from falling in love. I loved how Marquita managed to keep me turning the pages, dying to see what comes next. With the sexy and funny dialogues you're definitly gonna fall hard for this two - TRUST ME!!!!

The little snippet of this book from book one was what intrigued me the most. Frenemies to lovers is what I would call this relationship. While I was confused by the whole royal thing from book one I'm genuinely intrigued by Charlotte. She maybe described as a wallflower but I feel she wanted to be herself for once do want she wants just trapped in the rules required of her royal status. Brooks is also a curious character, I can't exactly call him paparazzi, like maybe one of those scandalous media outlets in nearer? In any case he is a enigma.

Being the one that spilled the beans on the royal family in exile, he's a perfect example of keep your enemies close. His agenda with his new arrangement with Charlotte exclusive affair in exchange for insider secrets. Hmmm couldn't be a as simple as that. Brooks seemed enamored by this shy and reserved innocent beauty. To be the one bring her out of her shell. The struggle between gaining information and his feelings for Charlotte are starting to make Brooks struggle. Charlotte has always admired our journalist even if he hasn't always been the best kind of guy, her little ploy is more to finally experience something of her own. I can only imagine it can't end so well what with the enemies they both have added to the whole situation.

The tension balanced with humor and flirty moments in between made this one more enjoyable to me. I liked seeing both different sides of Brooks and Charlotte here. The conundrum between doing what should be done vs what one on feels against ones own ethics. Maybe the villain does get his happily ever after all. To be honest this made up royalty is complicated at times with all the different things to learn and dynamics of it all. I'm still interested in the other siblings and remaining secrets to be uncovered. Theo's story is up next and it looks good.

The "Royals in Exile" series by Marquita Valentine has become one of my favorite romance series. Just because it is about a royal family doesn't mean that it is a historical or regency romance series. This is a contemporary romance series about the royal family of the Isle of Man. A family that is in exile in the States, in North Carolina. In the previous book, the family was exposed and now the whole world is following their every step. This next book of the series stars Brooks Walker, the man responsible for the family's exposure, the CEO of Walker Media and the man whose soul mission seems to be to unveil all of the Sinclair family's secrets.

Princess Charlotte is the next in line to be the queen of the Isle of Man. Her twin sister Imogen is the queen. Charlotte's duty as the spare is to be at hand whenever Imogen needs her and to support her sister. She is smart, sweet and takes her royal duties very seriously. She is known by the press as the royal wallflower. She feels responsible for her family's exposure due to her blog and her social media accounts. And even though she knows that she should hate the man responsible for all the trouble that the Sinclairs now face, she can't help it. She has had a crush on Brooks Walker from the first moment that she laid eyes on him. So when he approaches her at a benefit and dares her to spend a night on the wild side with him, she lets go of all her logical thoughts and inhibitions and follows him.

Brooks Walker may be a senator's son, but he is also a self-made man. He has made a name and fortune for himself with his pursuit of the truth and exposing the secrets of the ones that hold the power. He has been after the Sinclairs for a long time and feels that there are still many secrets left to expose. Who better to approach than the most biddable member of the Royal family, the sweet and shy Princess Charlotte. But what he soon discovers is that looks and first impressions can be quite deceiving and that the princess is far from being the wallflower that the whole world believes her to be.

I not only love the characters of this series, but I also love the fact that just when you think that you have the story figured out and you believe that you know whats going to happen next, Marquita Valentine throws you another curve ball and you find yourself shocked by a new twist. This is definitely a series that will keep you entertained from the first page till the last. Not to mention the incredibly sensual and steamy love scenes that will leave you hot and bothered ;)

Can't wait to see what's in store for Prince Theo Sinclair in the next book of the series!!

Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

I loved seeing Brooks and Charlotte come together. At first, he thought he could use her for the inside scoop on her family, but before he knew it, he was falling for her. Something about Charlotte's wallflower tendencies spoke to Brooks. Sure, they had their rough moments (when will Davies go away and leave this family alone?!), but I think Valentine made it very clear that they brought out the best in one another. Brooks was able to reconnect with his family because of Char and Char was able to escape the gilded cage she'd been living in.

I'm excited for more of these royals...and while I'm glad that Theo is getting his book, I really want to see Imogen and Devereaux...that's gotta be the next couple, right?!?!

4.25-4.5 STARS

“Royal Affair” is book #2 in author Marquita Valentine’s A Royals in Exile series, and I couldn’t have been more excited to finally get my hands on Brooks & Charlotte’s story! In most happily-ever-after stories, it is the handsome prince that wins the royal princess’ heart. In “Royal Affair,” however, it is the series’ villain—reporter Brooks Walker—who’s out to claim Princess Charlotte’s bed. But will he ultimately claim her heart as well?

Princess Charlotte Sinclair feels trapped in her role as “spare princess” and longs to be set free. Lusting after the man that single-handedly outed her royal family--CEO of Walker Media, Brooks Walker--Charlotte tosses caution to the wind, and offers Brooks a sexual proposition he could hardly turn down. While their mutually agreed upon affair is meant to be physical in nature only, Charlotte finds herself drawn to Brooks in ways she never anticipated. But Charlotte has been burned before, and she refuses to allow her heart to become a casualty to her feelings ever again.

Brooks Walker prides himself on exposing truths about the political elite--and the royal Sinclair family has been on his radar for quite some time. Although Princess Charlotte is not the royal twin that Brooks is initially attracted to, the possibility of getting the charmingly innocent Charlotte to expose family’s secrets, is an opportunity Brooks can’t possibly pass up. Bedding the beguiling princess is just the extra cherry on top. But Brooks isn’t prepared for how hard he’d eventually fall for Charlotte. So when damaging information about the Sinclair’s lands unceremoniously in his lap, Brooks struggles with following his career ambitions or following his heart.

While this modern-day fairytale is deliciously fun and delightful, this sinfully sexy version is a far cry from any PG-rated, Disney version. Brooks and Charlotte are simply dynamite together; their story, explosive! Don’t take this book too seriously… just sit back and enjoy this fun and steamy read.

Bring on the next royal, please… I’m more than ready for Theo’s story!!

It's no hardship to read and adore Marquita Valentine. She speaks to a place in our hearts that still wants to believe that the unbelievable is possible. That an orphan with a good heart can find her Prince Charming (literally). That a princess can find happily ever after in the most unlikely of places. That's Ms. Valentine. A romantic dreamer and I am a proud fan. Royal Affair brings the beauty of a fairy tale to the realism of modern day. Charlotte is a woman searching for acceptance and happiness outside of the constraints of royalty. Brooks is a good man who makes some questionable choices. Not a likely match, but one worth experiencing all the same. Royal Affair is for the dreamer in us all.

I have enjoyed every book by Marquita Valentine that I have read and reviewed in the past. This is the first book that I have been able to review in her Royals in Exile series.

Unfortunately, it is imperative that you read the other books in the series before you pick this one up. I was lost a lot in this book. I felt very disconcerted and because of that I really didn't connect well to the characters.

While I really liked Charlotte and Brooks, I really disliked Charlotte's twin sister, Gen. So that was another not so good part of this book for me.

On a good note, the hotness level however super high and their connection together was scorching. Brooks is amazing and totally delicious! And all in for Charlotte. So sweet!

The ending could've been so much better except for the fact that Gen was a jerk. She just really rubbed me the wrong way. All of the other siblings were fun and a great group to get to know. Plus the author sets up the next book in the series too.

I really wanted to love this book but there was too much missing in it for me to really connect on the level I normally do with her books. Still a great author and one that I will always read, but this was somewhat of a miss for me.

This is the second in Valentine’s “Royals in Exile” series. I hadn’t read the first so I was rather lost most of the way through. Usually, an author will find a way to bring the reader up to date if there were crucial details in earlier books that you need to know to understand the current book. For this one, events are referred to, but either not explained or explained only well into the book.

Princess Charlotte is the twin sister to the the queen of some country that isn’t identified until over halfway in the book. I thought it would be some imaginary country which is what usually happens when there is a fictional kingdom in a romance novel, but it’s identified as the Isle of Man which is an actual place that is part of the Britain and ruled by the Queen of England. Apparently, the family has had to flee the country after their parents were assassinated when they were kids. I guess that was explained in the first book, but it’s never clarified why in this book.

There are two older brothers and, apparently two younger brothers who never appear in the novel. I couldn’t figure out why the twin girls are the heirs to the throne instead of the older brothers, but it’s thrown in somewhere in the middle of the book that the line is matrilineal. Then there are references that the real father of five of the six children were fathered by the mother’s bodyguard. That’s never really explained and we never meet or hear what happened to that plotline.

Charlotte decides right at the beginning to engage in an affair with an online journalist Brooks Walker who, apparently, was the one who exposed the royal family as hiding out in North Carolina. That happened in the first book and it takes a while to learn what it was he had reported. He’s supposed to be extremely rich, as if anyone would get so rich these days from being an online journalist.

They fall for each other and engage in a lot of hot sex. Or maybe the order of those events should be reversed.

There are complications that get introduced quickly and then resolved quickly without much explanation. I found it all rather irritating not to know all the back story or why things work out the way they do when Brooks’ business is threatened. Explanations don’t seem to be important in this book. It’s like the author came up with a plot and set out to write it without taking the time to clarify any background or plot development. I suppose hot sex was meant to be enough to carry the other weaknesses of the book.

Perhaps the book would be better if I’d read the first one, but I feel no urge to go read that or the third book that is set up in the epilogue.

I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is sexy, quirky, fun, emotional, heartfelt with lots of tension, intrigue and loads of romance. This story has it all and it had me from the very first page to the last page. The characters you just fall in love with and you want them to over come everything to be together and get the HEA. I love this book and this author and can't wait to read more. Would totally recommend this book to friends and family

Char and Brooks were everything. Brooks was the perfect man for her to finally open up to and share secrets with, and his family was so amazing. I love this royal family and the secrets and scandals they are overcoming.

Charlotte is the second in line to the throne. She's quiet, shy and the royal wallflower. All Charlotte would like is to have her own fairy tale of finding her prince, falling in love and having a family. Charlotte has a crush on Brooks and has been somewhat "stalking" him for a bit. But there is a slight problem, Brooks Walker is a journalist and owns Walker media and exposed Charlottes family secrets. But she can't help herself and her obsession of all things Brooks.

Brooks is a man on an expedition of exposing all things royal. And he's decided that Charlotte would be his avenue to headlines, advertising and revenue for his company. But the last thing Brooks expects is Charlottes suggesting an affair between them and he agreeing. Brooks finds Charlotte isn't the quiet wallflower that he first thought.

The two embark on an affair and find that the feelings they have for each other are deepening and wonder could this be love. But Brooks is a commoner and Charlottes has a secret she doesn't want exposed. Both have obstacles to over come for their happy ever after.

Loved it! This is a light-hearted story that just makes you smile throughout the whole book. There were a few moments where I wanted to throat punch Brooks, though. Great book and I can't wait for the next one!
