Reinforced the idea that drama starts and ends with me. Its so easy to get caught up in it. I've learned to find peace and learn to walk away from toxic situations.
I'm in control

Drama is great fun to watch on the stage. But in everyday life, too much drama can be draining and cause great conflict that quickly spirals out of control. Drama Free by Cindi McMenamin examines drama, both drama we can control and drama that we cannot control. “You and I determine whether the drama in our lives will transform us into more godly people and give glory to God…or shine a spotlight on us and our frailties, insecurities, and emotional instability.” I love this quote from this book! Cindi McMenamin clarifies that although we cannot control all of the drama in our lives, we do control how we react and diffuse the drama that comes into our lives. This was the first book I have read by this author and I look forward to more in the future. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who craves a more peaceful life and feels like life is spinning out of control. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Drama...It seems like we can't get away from it! There is drama in the news, drama in our neighborhoods, drama in our schools, drama in our churches...everywhere you turn, drama, drama, and more drama! Why is this? Why is everything around us extreme, over-the-top, and dramatic? I find social media to be a big culprit as is our me-first culture in general. I am personally annoyed by all the drama, but find I can easily succumb to the masses and dramatize my own insignificant life-situations. I don't like it, but I do it just like everyone else.Drama Free by Cindi McMenamin is a biblical look at how to tame our own drama and how to deal with the drama around us.

I appreciate that the author gets right to the heart of things with Scripture from the start. She also helps point the reader to an understanding that when we are feeling overwhelmed by the emotions surrounding a situation the only place to begin is by going to God and His Word. In a world where we are told to drive out the drama with any number of distractions, confronting it head on with God's help is a novel idea.

One of my favorite phrases came from chapter two where the author encourages us to trust God's script for our lives. Here she says, "And that, my friend, is where peace is found: in accepting - and trusting - God's script for our lives." This is not advice given in most circles. Most of the time we are told it's okay to dwell in the drama. We seek validity for our emotional upheavals without grace or peace. The reality for Christians should be very much the opposite. In the midst of the unexpected we should seek Him first, rely on His strength, and settle into His peace. We will still feel the emotions. They are not wrong to have, but they should not become the primary focus of our life and circumstance.

I highly recommend this book for women whether you find yourself in the midst of drama now, have ever experienced struggles, or think you might sometime in the future have difficulty struggling to cope. This is also a useful tool for those who are walking along with someone who is having a hard time with overwhelming emotions. The godly council given here is excellent.

Oh man did I need to read this book. I mean, drama is everywhere, and I'm sorry to admit, at times a result of me. I will hang my head in shame for only two seconds because the truth is, we all cause drama, whether we mean to or not. Its all part of being human.

What this book does however is explain how to accept that there will be drama, and give options for how to cope/deal/handle whatever and whoever life throws at you. It was extremely empowering and I feel recharged and uplifted for having read it.

It did begin to lag about 2/3rds of the way into it, and the reference point is not one that those who do not believe in God will find universal. Regardless, I enjoyed it and will recommend it to my friends who are also seeking to rid themselves of Drama in their lives.

Drama Free

Finding Peace When Emotions Overwhelm You

by Cindi McMenamin

Harvest House Publishers

Christian , Health, Mind & Body

Pub Date 01 May 2017

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy of Drama Free through Harvest House Publishers and Netgalley:

Life can be dramatic, but some people can be overly so, it's as if they thrive on the drama of life.

We are going to face emotions that overwhelm us, emotions that may very well close to paralyze us, but we can find peace while dealing with those emotions.

The author reminds us that in order to get over Drama, we must get over ourselves.

We are reminded too that when we give our hearts to God, we no longer have to face the Drama of life alone.

The author tells us that Drama is the result of reacting emotionally without a plan. We are also reminded that the more spirit filled we are, the less drama filled we will be. We are reminded too that just because God makes us aware of a situation, does not mean he is assigning it to us. We are reminded too that God would rather have us spend time with him, then to do a bunch of things for him.

We are reminded too that forgiving others quickly, also helps to eliminate Drama.

I give Drama Free five out of five stars.

Happy Reading!

Quite a useful book for bringing you back to center when you're having a bit of a drama, or have trouble coping with something.
