The art is simply charming, I like Belle's feminist side and that we get insights from her, but the work seems unfinished (add some graphics details and colors maybe?) and the dialogues could use a little brush-up.

I decided to review Belle's Tale and The Beast's Tale together as it is basically the same story, just with different points of view in the separate volumes. The story line is based on Disney's new live-action movie that was recently released in theaters. You really can't go wrong with TokyoPop. Their art is beautiful! Mallory Reeves does a great job in adapting this story in manga form. If you enjoyed the movie, or if you just love Beauty and the Beast tales, you will not be disappointed with this version. If you saw the movie than there won't be anything new here. But, if you haven't then you will see some differences in the original Disney cartoon and this new 2016 version. There is more backstory revealed for both Belle and The Beast. So, that was enlightening. Reeves also gives us some insight as to what the characters are thinking during important parts of the story. Overall, a great adaptation for Beauty and the Beast fans.

I absolutely adored this adaptation. The way that the illustrator drew the photos was perfect and I love that it was kept in the traditional manga style. I will definitely be recommending this.

This is a simply wonderful manga retelling of this classic story.

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have obviously seen the movies, more than a few times, so it’s a story I know. With that said, there are things I like and things I don’t about this book.
I love the drawings. Even though the ARC watermark can make it difficult to appreciate the book visually, I think manga Belle is the most precious thing. The author did a great job on that.
I like that the author tried to convey Belle’s thoughts. She isn’t successful at this all the time, but it made for a great addition to the story we already know.
I didn’t like the pace of the book.To me it felt a little rushed. Maybe it’s because it tells only Belle’s side of the story.
Also, since it’s one side of the story, some parts make no sense because there’s information missing. For someone who knows the movies this is not exactly a problem, but it goes to show that even if you want to tell only one side of the story, sometimes you’ll need to explain a few things outside of that.
All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book. It was my first manga and I can see myself reading a lot more in this style!

Even though I haven't watched the movie yet, I enjoyed this and it made me really excited to watch the live-action! The design is really pretty (though the beast looks really scary sometimes) and the story is familiar to me, so I loved it. I already knew about some differences between the original Disney movie and the new one; I was still spoiled for other stuff, obviously, but it's fine.
I just thought the scenes were really rushed, and there was barely a connection between them sometimes.

I’ve been really nervous about the new adaptation of Beauty and the Beast and apparently with good cause. I don’t like the changes that they’ve made to the script or to Belle. I know that people defend the new choices an say “it has to be different from the original” and I understand that. But, I happen to agree with Angela Lansbury’s assessment that it DIDN’T need a redo. The artwork is lovely, but the story leaves something to be desired. If you are a fan of the classic version of the film, you’ll be disappointed, but this book is a must-have for diehard fans of the 2017 iteration of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Although I enjoyed the movie, the book was too confusing for me to keep up. It is a good comic book, though.

This was a nice read all in all. Please note that the volume 1 is Belle's point of view and no one else's. It would really be nice if some of the pages are in color. Drawing looks good, however I find the drawing for the men characters peculiar and funny especially beast and gaston, because they look so huge and a bit rough.

I really love differant kinds of animated magazines and manga and enjoyed reading this one and would really love to read more like this in the future.

I must admit that I'm personally still bitter about Tokyopop's original closure years ago and what that did for a number of series I followed. Frankly I am surprised that Disney would continue to work with them after that. That being said, I enjoyed this volume and am very much looking forward to reading the Beast's side of the story in the next volume. The art here is pretty, but not overly beautiful, like I would hope for a Beauty and the Beast adaptation. My one major gripe is that despite being manga-styled, not all of the panels actually read right to left; much of the text in the larger panels was meant to be read left to right. I read a lot of manga, and if this threw me, I know it will confuse many of our patrons as well.

I was sorry to see this is not Kindle friendly. It should be noted in the Netgalley description.

I have been wanting to read this book since I had first seen it on Goodreads under my recommendations. The story of Beauty and the Beast has always interested me and the original animated movie is one of my favorite Disney movies of all time. I also have wanted to read a manga for a long time so why not start with something I know so well. This manga is very close to the new live action movie that came out last month. The illustrations are close to the live action characters but are different. This artist has done a great job with this story and it was a very good interpretation of the story. I like how she split the story between Belle and the Beast's perspectives. I will be reading the second one next and will be doing a review for it when I finish.

I recommend this for anyone that likes the story of Beauty and the Beast and for anyone that is interested in getting into the story. This was a great version of the story.

This was an interesting take on the Beauty and the Beast story. I enjoyed that Belle's back story was explored.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this title.

Overall: 5/5
Illustrations: 5/5
Content: 5/5 (Well, it IS a classic)
Cover: 5/5 (Love at first sight <3)
Editing: 5/5

Manga/illustrated novels for classics? Fairy tales? Oooooh yes. For such a big fairy tale fan and someone who's too lazy to read all those serious and sometimes way too deep and profound classics like me, manga or illustrated novels are usually the best choice. Graphics make everything a lot more simple to understand, and usually makes the reading process more entertaining too.

I LOVE this manga edition of Beauty and the Beast. The style of the illustrations is perfect! (Japanese drawing styles usually match my taste, see how Harry Potter limited edition cover turned out! SO. ADORABLE.) The editing went well too, and the cover was really pretty. What also attracted me was the fact that there are two books in this manga edition. A book for Belle, a book for the beast, I've always loved to read a story from two POVs, the male and female main characters, so that I can get different aspects of the love story. (I'm a girl, so I like to start from the female POV first.) (After reading Twilight from Bella's POV, I was dying to read Midnight Sun in Edward's, and then....yeah. Still waiting.) I'm hoping there will be manga editions for other classics too, come on Disney, please?

Conclusion: Worthy of recommending, and definitely a book worthy of buying for fairy tale book collectors.

...What Fun! My first Manga graphic read and my first experience with Beauty and the Beast.

...Once I figured out we go right to left instead of left to right, and the reason for the blank pages (low iPad battery) all was well.

...Everyone knows the story, but this particular Disney Manga version is Part 1 and is BELLE'S TALE told from her point of view with Part 2 to be told from the Beast's perspective.

...Beautiful artistry and a wonderful Disney classic make for one fine way to educate children to look beyond the surface and find beauty within.

...Thank you NetGalley and Diamond Book Distributors for this enchanting free read in exchange for an honest review!

Belle's Tale (Disney Beauty and the Beast, #1)
by Mallory Reaves
The combination of Manga and Disney's new adaptation of the Beauty and the Beast story. With added pages showing drawing line work and other aspects of the story.
the new adaptation of the story adds to the Disney original with a back story of her mother and that of the beast that changes the tone of the story.
The Manga drawing pattern blends the original Disney concept and the new artist changes to the story in the theaters.

A great read and interesting take on Belles side of the tale. Fantastically illustrated, I really hope it's released in colour.
