Like many other readers, I loved Ms. Coble's Rock Harbor series, set in an area of Michigan that I know and love. And although I have never written Ms. Coble asking for more books in the series, I was glad when BENEATH COPPER FALLS came out.

I enjoyed getting to know Dana and Boone. I knew a bit about Dana's job thanks to my son's time working for the sheriff department and it was fun learning about Boone and what made him tick.

The suspense - as my daughter said "sounds scary." I asked if she wanted to read it and she said no, she doesn't do scary. She punctuated it with a shudder. It wasn't really all that scary, but as the reader I was kept awake one night trying to figure out who-dun-it and by the time I got up in the morning I had it figured out and then I had to finish the book to see if I was right.

Ms. Coble does an excellent job with the red herrings and I think one has to be more than somewhat familiar with the genre to figure out her who-dun-it before the end, which is good because it will keep readers guessing!

It was also great to revisit Bree, Kade, Adu, Laurie, Mason, and other familiar Rock Harbor characters--not to mention the Search and Rescue dogs.

Great story. There is no faith message and a couple uses of soft swear words for those who are bothered by mild swearing. I was given a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I own over a dozen of Colleen Coble’s books—for a good reason. She is a talented author, infusing her stories with page-turning suspense, a gambit of emotions, and so much heart.

Beneath Copper Falls caught my interest quickly, and there weren’t any lagging parts throughout. I like how Ms. Coble wraps up any loose ends, because leaving stray parts of a storyline drives me nuts.

There is so much depth to this story, dealing from scary abuse to touching romance and it’s all built on a foundation of faith.

I love the setting of Rock Harbor—the imagery is superb. And Dana and Boone are interesting characters, both carrying much more inside them than what appears on the surface. I’m so happy to have another book in this series, and I can’t wait to read more.

I loved being back in Rock Harbor and seeing beloved characters like Bree, Kade, and Davy again, as well as Samson. It was like seeing friends again after several years. Dana didn't seem as damaged as I would normally expect from someone who had been in an abusive relationship and had recently gotten out so at times I found her character a little unbelievable because of it. At times, I also felt like there were too many POVs but I could understand it for the complexity of this story.

The part of the book that I liked the most was how we were being led down one way until Coble started throwing things in to cast my suspicions on someone else. There were enough clues thrown in as the story moved along that I could have my suspicions on who the actual serial killer was and yet not be certain who it was until the end when Coble. The suspense is woven throughout the whole book and even in the tender relaxed moments, the suspense isn't completely forgotten.

Another great addition to the Rock Harbor mysteries. This book has two storylines with characters so similar that it makes it hard to decide who is killing all the girls. What a twist this story has! Highly recommended.

My Review

We are back in Rock Harbor with Bree, Kade, the kids and of course, Samson. Although Bree and Samson play an important role in this story the focus is on Dana and Boone. Dana returns home to get away from her abusive fiancé. Shortly, after arriving her dear friend, Allyson is killed by a serial killer dubbed, the Groom Reaper.

This story is intense and the author does a great job giving very small hints. Took me awhile to figure out who the Groom Reaper was, but I felt good because it took Dana even longer. 😉

I loved Boone! He had been deeply hurt both physically and emotionally. Watching the relationship between him and Dana grow was precious.

Although part of the Rock Harbor series you can read this one without reading the others. (However, I highly recommend the Rock Harbor Series, it is one of Colleen Coble’s best!)

Rock Harbor is becoming a favourite place for me to visit! This is the second book I’m reading in this series, though it’s number six, and I loved it start to finish. Colleen Coble weaves a story so believable and tense I read it straight through, cover to cover! Upon reading the back cover, I presumed the story would focus on the abusive fiancé, but the web woven is so much broader and more intriguing. The collision of past and present takes a twist I didn’t see coming (I love it when I can’t predict a thriller) and the ending is perfect!

The familiarity of characters from Haven of Swans gives the reader a set of trustworthy characters and a chance to see the normal life version of Dana. Boone has his own baggage and the way the two of them work through their past pain is brave and a reminder that we choose how much influence our past has on our behaviour today and how we respond to what life challenges us with. From the perspective of relying on God to be our reference point and strength, Christianity is threaded gently through the book and placed in stark contrast to those who abuse, manipulate and injure others.

Whether this is the continuation of the series for you or the first book you’ve picked up, I highly recommend it with a 5 out of 5 on the en-JOY-ment scale. I hope Colleen Coble continues to write about Rock Harbor!

This is the first Rock Harbor book I have read, though I've read numerous books by Colleen. Generally I have enjoyed her rich writing style. She goes in deep and often leaves you wondering if you will make it out alive. Murder mystery is certainly her forte and she does it well.

Set in the UP of Michigan, on the shore of Lake Superior, Michiganders will recognize many of the places, foods and speaking style of the locals. We begin with the first victim, Renee who is the younger sister of Boone, the hero. While you never know who will live or die, I don't generally guess the plot twist or the murderer however I had this one figured out early on. While I could go into detail about specific characters, I always think in the case of crime books, the less I know going in, the better.

3.5 stars for another well written, researched and intricate plot.

Thank you to Netgalley & Thomas Nelson for the eARC. This is my honest review.

Oh, my! Loved this book so much! Felt like I was right there in Rock Harbor.
Dana transfers to Rock Harbor as a 911 Emergency dispatcher after breaking off her engagement with her mentally and physically abusive fiancee'. She moves in with her cousin, Chris, who is more like a brother to her as his parents adopted and raised Dana after her parents died.
Allyson is investigating the death of her cousin, Renee, as well as some other women who were drowned on the eve of their weddings. Interesting enough, Dana's ex-fiancee' had pushed her head under a kitchen sink of water.
This book is a great suspense mystery with a little romance. Not predictable at all for me. Full of surprises and twists. Can't rave enough about how much I enjoyed it!
I was given a free ecopy of this to read by the publisher, Thomas Nelson and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This has been a great week for new book releases! It seems like I've had a lot of book reviews coming out lately, but I'm telling you, there have been some really great books out in June and July! Y'all know that when it comes to some authors, I can't say 'no' to anything they write, and Colleen Coble is one of those authors. It doesn't even matter if the book is in a series that I've never read before--if she wrote it, I'm going to read it! I recently reviewed Colleen's book Haven of Swans and I loved it. (see my review here) It was one that I stayed up late at night to finish...then had to check all the doors to make sure they were locked before I could go to bed. After that, I had to read Beneath Copper Falls, which is the eighth (I think?) book in her popular Rock Harbor series. Even though I haven't read the first five, I was still able to really enjoy the last two, and the Christmas novella that I read a couple years ago.

In this book Dana Newell has just left a bad relationship. After her fiancé tried to kill her, she broke it off and returned to her hometown of Rock Harbor, Michigan, hoping for a fresh start. She takes a job as a 911 dispatcher, begins to spend time with new friends--one in particular--and starts some self-defense classes. Then she gets an emergency call from a new friend who claims someone is about to kill her, then the line goes dead. Is her ex-fiancé killing people who are trying to help her? Dana's new friend, Boone, has been hurt before, both inside and out, and he bears the scars to prove it. He cares for Dana, but he's afraid to put his heart on the line again. When danger proves to be nearer than they ever imagined, Boone must risk it all to save Dana. Will he make it through the blizzard to find her, or will one more person be lost beneath Copper Falls?

A couple weeks ago on a Saturday, Billy went to help out a friend with some car problems. He took Jaxon with him, so it was just me and Jase at home. I started reading this book first thing in the morning (after my devotion) and read it off and on through my morning chores. When Jase went down for his nap I went outside and sat on the swing and finished the whole thing. Overall, it took me about 4-5 hours to read it. It was so good, I absolutely could not stop until I finished it.

The thing I love most about Collen's thrillers, is that you can never really guess what's going on. I thought I knew a few times, but it was so twisted, I couldn't be sure. I don't understand all of the backstory with Bri and the other Rock Harbor residents, but I really want to go back and read all the other books! I know that someday I'll have the time to do it. (Right?) Boone was an awesome hero in this book. He was so closed off and prepared for ridicule from Dana, but she looked past his imperfections and saw his true character. She told him that his scars didn't matter to her. She had seen and experience the pain a handsome man with bad character can cause, and she was able to look past the outside. I also appreciated reading about a woman who was afraid, but was determined to keep living her life and not let fear control her. She took the necessary precautions, but decided that she wouldn't run any more.

I'm so glad that Collen chose to write about some often unsung heroes of the emergency services system. I've spent my life around 911 dispatchers, and I've seen firsthand how difficult and often thankless their job is. In Beneath Copper Falls you'll get a little look at some of the things they experience, the important work they do, and how they save people's lives. Most of the time they don't meet the people they help (the part about Dana dropping off casseroles to people whose calls she answered was a bit over-the-top) but they really do save lives. They do things like talk people through CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, basic first-aid and even keep people calm until help arrives. I love that this book gives a taste of what these wonderful, unseen people do.

As I mentioned before, I have not read all of the other books in this series, but the ones I have read are wonderful. I highly recommend them if you love thrillers that are clean, but still exciting and hair-raising! If you do want to read the other books in this series before you read Beneath Copper Falls, the first six (including the novella) are available in an e-book bundle here. But I think you can still enjoy the story without reading the others. I can also say from experience that Haven of Swans is pretty awesome and it's another one you don't want to miss. Colleen has a new series coming, with the first book, The View from Rainshadow Bay, releasing in January. I'm already really excited for it!

If you read Beneath Copper Falls I'd love to hear about it! Leave me a comment below, or shoot me an email!

Happy Reading!

Beneath Copper Falls is the latest installment in Colleen Coble's Rock Harbor series. After the offer of a job with the Rock Harbor Police Department, 911 operator Dana Newell is coming back to her childhood home and leaving behind her abusive ex-fiancé in Washington state. Her adopted brother has offered her a home in Rock Harbor and childhood friends are excited to have her back.

Soon after her return, Dana meets her brother's friend Boone Carter, a former fire jumper afflicted with scars outside and in from his experiences. Boone's sister Renee was murdered on the eve of her wedding and her murderer is yet to be found. His cousin Allyson, who is an investigative reporter, is in Rock Harbor to go over details of her investigation into Renee's murder with Boone. Allyson is also a dear friend of Bree Matthews who trains and operates search-and-rescue dogs in the Michigan Upper Peninsula. And Bree is Dana's best friend from childhood.

Soon after Dana begins her new job at the 911 center, she receives a panicked call from Allyson saying she will be his next victim, and she is. At the same time Dana's former fiancé has come to town and becomes a suspect in the murder. On the run, he plots his course to capture Dana.

As the clues pile up, and Boone and Dana join forces to solve the murder while keeping her safe, they find that there are more secrets surrounding Copper Falls than had been known, secrets that could change Dana forever.

Written in Ms. Coble's precision style, this story is fast paced and will keep you turning pages late into the night. Her descriptions of the area make you feel as though you are there and her characters feel like they could be your friends. I enjoy Ms. Coble's mysteries and do recommend this book.

Great suspense and romance! Boone and Dana are wonderful protagonists! I was not expecting a serial murderer when I started this book! The ending was quite a surprise. Beneath Copper Falls is a story of looking beneath the surface to see what people are really like. I always enjoy books by Colleen Coble and this was no exception. I highly recommend Beneath Copper Falls to people who enjoy suspense. I receive an e-copy from Net Galley. this is my honest opinion.

A richly layered mystery, set in my beloved Rock Harbor. Thank you Colleen for bringing me back.

911 operator Dana Newell returns to Rock Harbor after her abusive boyfriend tries to drown her. Dana grew up in Rock Harbor, and finds a place to stay with her cousin Chris, meanwhile she and her friend Bree are training a puppy for search and rescue.

Boone Carter is a former smoke jumper who is now an outfitter who rents out cabins. He is a good friend of Chris and willingly goes to check on Dana while Chris is gone. He defensive around women because of a scar on his face, previously his fiance broke it off with him when she saw it.

When Dana's friend, Allyson, who also happens to be Boone's cousin, frantically calls Dana, with a haunting message before the line goes dead, soon after Allyson's body is found and ruled an accident, but Dana wonders if Garret, her ex could be involved. She knows that Allyson was investigating a new story, could she have gotten too close to the truth?

Dana is a brave and clever heroine, and her is determined to do everything that she can to find out hat happened to Allyson and prevent it from happening to others.

I really liked Boone, he is slow to trust Dana, but comes to see that he can be himself when he is with and her and that her questions are out of concerned kindness, and he admires her bravery and how she cares for people on and off the clock.

This is a fast-paced and suspenseful read, with a tension filled mystery that brings Dana and Boone together. Boone is very supportive of Dana, and a very good friend. I really liked seeing Bree, Kade and Sampson again, along with Bree and Kade's 4 year old twins! There are many surprises along with twists, and plenty of tense moments. Definitely a great read for fans of Colleen Coble's Rck Harbor Series!

Beneath Copper Falls by Colleen Coble is the story of 911 operator Dana Newell. She survives an abusive marriage and escapes to go back home to Rock Harbor. This is another book in this author’s Rock Harbor series. It can definitely be read as a standalone novel, but it is so much more fun if you have read other books in the series and can keep up with changes in characters’ lives over time. Dana escapes from her husband but keeps being threatened in town. Who can she trust? I would highly recommend this book as another solid installment in this series that I have grown to love. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Ahh, Colleen Coble....one of my favorite writers. How she manages to spin a suspense novel in with Christian romance is truly amazing. I am unfortunately not familiar with the Rock Harbor series (not sure how I missed them) so I'm not sure how many of the characters I should have been more acquainted with, but I enjoyed the novel just the same. Were there moments I could tell that these characters had more story behind them? Definitely. However, she wove the back stories and side character updates in so well that it didn't bother me. I felt like I had just enough info to get the idea and build the character in my mind without feeling like I'd missed out on too much.

Dana is a 911 dispatcher who hasn't made the best choices in men. Specifically, her last boyfriend was a bit controlling and gave her a serious scare by trying to drown her. She left town to get away from him, but went back to her hometown and knows he's likely to find her, but at least she'll be surrounded by friends and the only family she has left-a brother who's technically a cousin who's family adopted her when hers died in a freak boating accident. But once she gets back, bad things start happening to people all around her as they try to figure out who killed her friend the night before her wedding....and potentially others.

Beneath Copper Falls is certainly intense. I had a little trouble staying focused in the very beginning, but that may have been due to the number of characters introduced that I wasn't familiar with from the previous novels. Once I got a handle on that, I had a hard time putting the book down. I wouldn't recommend it for young teens, however. It is a bit scary to have drowning scenes written first person along with all the other intense scenes of kidnappings, murders and attempted murder. There is no bad language or more than a kissing scene, so pretty clean there. And while it mentions God and His plans or having a relationship, I'd also consider fairly light in the "religion" realm compared to many.

Fans of Colleen Coble, rejoice! In her newest release, Beneath Copper Falls, Coble returns to a fan favorite. Rock Harbor, Michigan and several of our favorite residents make appearances.

In the middle of a Michigan winter, Dana Newell returns to Rock Harbor to escape a demanding ex and settles back in to the small community. But her past has followed her and she must constantly keep an eye out for him. With the help of her old friend, Bree Matthews and a new friend, Boone Carter, she prepares to face the controlling man she ran from. But there’s more going on in this U. P. town than meets the eye.

Coble weaves the threads of the mysterious happenings with a masterful touch. Her portrayal of manipulative, controlling men is spot-on. Readers can easily see how women are taken in by these enigmatic, larger-than-life guys who twist words and situations as they see fit.

From the moment Dana meets Boone, there is a connection between the two. Boone believes no one woman could love him because of the scars on his face and Dana questions her judge of character. After all, she came to Rock Harbor because of a man.

A story about how beauty is more than skin-deep and evil can come in a well-wrapped package, Copper Falls is a tense, page-turning return to Rock Harbro.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is so nice to pick up a book and be totally enthralled from the first chapter in. This book deals with the issue of domestic abuse and it's about a serial killer called the 'groom reaper' who murders his fiance's before the wedding. If you are a lover of christian suspense then I highly recommend this enjoyable read.

Beneath Copper Falls by Colleen Coble is a very suspenseful book. From the opening scene to the ending you are on the edge of your seat.
For fans of the Rock Harbor series you'll be thrilled to know that Bree and Cade play a role in this book too. And don't let me forget Sampson, Bree loyal companion dog. I enjoyed how the relationship developed between Boone and Dana. Dana married the man of her dreams and then realized he wasn't who he appeared to be. He also happens to be the best friend of her brother. She has a very interesting backstory with her family dying and going to live with Chris and his family. I found her occupation interesting as a 911 caller. On a personal note I felt like she should have filed a restraining order as encouragement for other women who read the book. However I'm sure the book is probably more accurate as a 911 operator has probably seen many cases that it did not stop someone. Boone was another great character. I love the scenes where he was teaching her self-defense. Even if you guess who the Groom Reaper is you're going to thoroughly enjoyed the mystery. The Groom Reaper is a serial killer who is killing women the night before their wedding.
sexual content: kissing, hugging
Violence - this is a creepy crazy villain, he is a serial killer, then you have Dana's abusive exhusband,
