Timber Creek K-9 Robo is amazing and due some real Lassie worship! This is my first reading of Margaret Mizushima's K-9 mysteries of which "Killing Trail" and "Stalking Ground" are also a part of this series. Had no trouble following Hunting Hour even without first reading the other two. Hunting is what Robo and his handler Mattie Cobb do best as part of the local law enforcement team. Many bumps in the road are hit in this novel whose ball rolls down the hill at an amazing page turning rate. Modern issues of elderly care, teen drug and sex secrets and the need of counseling for life's challenges are all glimpsed. Murder investigation leads into another abduction and tests the skills of Robo and Mattie. Many twists and turns made this a mystery to enjoy along with hints of romance. "A copy of this book was provided to me by Crooked Lane Books and author via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read and my comments here are my honest opinion."

This is a solid police procedural in its way with added themes on mental health - victims, perpetrators and even the main police protagonist has sessions from her childhood as the abused daughter of a sociopath. Her dog is an added feature as well - supportive and non-judgmental just what she needs when she expects judgements from all around her.
The surprise is who the perpetrator turns out to be - but on the downside it is told squashed fast in at the end. I was enjoying the reasonable pace and as things added on it still continued on in measured way and then suddenly, it all rushed. Perfectly viable piece of work and can wile away a few hours easily.

Enjoyed this one. Excellent suspense filled novel with canine element I love. Interactions of all characters well done and believable. I will read more from this author.

A great mystery that keeps you turning the page. the characters are very real and the relationships complex. Of course i love the animals especially the working dogs!

This is a great story and people who appreciate the abilities of dogs are sure to enjoy it. That does not include people who load their dogs into a baby carriage and push them around a store, or people who coddle their dogs, purchasing airfare so they can ride as a passenger on a flight. Rather a working dog, as in trained to sniff out drugs, or track a missing person, and countless other abilities to assist law enforcement. The K-9 officer struggles with her own problems and her dog is not only a working dog but a comfort to her. The plot involves a dead child, a missing child, and a few eccentric characters along with a cast of others, some normal and some less than normal but all beset with their own issues. The use of dogs is especially appealing to someone who is a fan of law enforcement canines. The entire story is a five-star thriller, set in a homey country like small town in the west. The character personalities are very much like people many of us have known, presenting a realistic crime story, that could easily be based on an actual case. Hard to put down and a commendable work by the author. Upon finishing this book I immediately purchased “Stalking Ground” and “Killing Trail” by this same author.

In Mizushima's Hunting Hour (Crooked Lane Books 2017), Mattie, a K9 officer with the Timber Creek police is called on to use her trained tracking dog Robo to track a young girl who is missing. The 8th grader is found dead and Mattie and Robo segue to tracking the killer. As Mattie's working this case, the daughter of a friend is kidnapped by one who must be the same as the killer. Mattie and Robo chase the kidnapper knowing they only have a brief time to find the child. An early are the kidnapped and the

I read the first in this series (loved it) and this is an excellent addition. The tension never ends. The details of a working dog are exciting, and Mizushima's respect and love for all animals shines through with every plot twist.

In murder mysteries, I always try to guess the killer before I finish but this one, I just couldn't do it. It was that clever. Headline. You'll never guess the killer

I really like this series. It is fascinating to learn about dogs who track and do search and rescue. Go Robo! Each book delves deeper into the relationships of Mattie and all the people in the town, always along with an interesting mystery to solve. Good read!

I am so impressed by this series. Margaret has a great grasp on the relationship between a k-9 officer and their dog and what they can do. She always has great cases for Maggie and the rest of the department to solve. Truly love these books

This author has quickly become one of my favorites. One child is dead and one child is missing which brings up memories from Mattie's past. I love Mattie and Robo.

Deputy Mattie Cobb and her K-9 Robo are back in a case that hits way too close to home. Mattie needs some time away from Cole and his family, time to exorcise some demons, but she doesn’t get much of a break because a middle school girl has gone missing . Mattie and Robo track the missing girl, but any hope of finding her alive is quickly dashed. Mattie barely has time to catch her breath before another girl goes missing, this time it’s one of Cole’s daughters. Mattie, Robo, Cole and the entire town comb through woods and fields looking for the missing girl, but Robo can’t pick up her scent. A strange phone tip leads Mattie and Robo to the forest where the K-9 is finally able to pick up the missing girl’s scent, but will they be in time? This is a fantastic series, Mattie continues to reveal a little more about herself in each book, keeping interest and tensions high
