Things in Kailyn Wilde's life seem to be going awry lately. When you own a centuries-old magick shop, daily life isn't quite normal anyway....but Kailyn senses that there is something more to her current problems than meets the eye. Any magick around her is going wrong. She tries to summon a familiar and ends up calling forth a famous wizard from antiquity. Potions and spells from her shop start having unexpected results, and even her Aunt Tilly's Magick seems to be fizzling lately. Then Kailyn discovers her attorney dead in his office. Things are going from bad to worse! Who killed Jim? What is behind the curse causing her magick to fizzle? And what is she going to do about Merlin?

I can sum up this story in one word: FUN!! I enjoyed the characters, the quirky story and the mystery! Sharon Pape interjects a lot of personality, humor and sass into her characters. Aunt Tilly was perfect as the slightly ditzy older aunt. And Kailyn is independent and strong, but a bit stressed by the pressures of being responsible for the magick shop handed down in her family for generations. Both Tilly and Kailyn are extremely vexed and confused when their magick powers start going a bit off. Merlin joins in the mix and even his powers start to get a bit crazy. The scenes where the ladies are trying to introduce Merlin to modern society were cute and fun to read. I can't imagine trying to explain cars, space travel, television and the internet to a person from Arthurian days! :) Add visits from deceased relatives into the mix and it makes for a fun, quirky paranormal mystery!

I also love the cover art for this book! It's perfect!

Magick & Mayhem is the first book in the new Abracadabra Mystery series. A second book, That Olde White Magick, will be coming out in November 2017. I am definitely going to read more of this series! Any reader who enjoys paranormal cozy mysteries, or those with humor and wit interjected throughout will love this book!

Sharon Pape is also the author of the Portrait of Crime and Crystal Shop mystery series. For more info on the author and her books, check out her website at http://www.sharonpape.com/

What a great beginning to a new magical cozy series (An Abracadabra Mystery). Witch Kailyn Wilde is running the magic shop that has been in her family for generations. Her Aunt Tilly has the shop next door where she does psychic readings and bakes. They discover their lawyer's dead body and decide the police need help finding the killer. When Merlin shows up from Camelot their investigation takes some interesting turns as they help him navigate the modern world. Fun but a wonderful mystery. Can't wait to see what book 2 holds.

Magick and Mayhem was the fantastic first book in a new paranormal cozy mystery. It features Kailyn Wilde as a witch in a small town who is running her family’s magic shop, Abracadabra, after the sudden deaths of her mother and grandmother. When she and her psychic aunt Tilly head over to the local lawyers office to finalize some papers they are surprised to find he’d been murdered and from there the plot unfolds.

Kailyn takes on the task of hunting down the real killer when her friend Elise becomes the main suspect. Between juggling the demands of a magic shop, taking care of a gaggle of cats, finding some unexpected romance and hunting down a killer Kailyn has her hands, and head, full.

The story was a great read for me. It was entertaining, humorous, and overall very enjoyable. I loved all the hijinks of the supporting characters and the mystery was well done. The book was well paced and well plotted. I really liked all of the characters and I am already looking forward to book two!

I give the book 4/5 stars

I received this book from Netgalley and Kensington Books in exchange for an honest review.

What a delightful read this was!

Kailyn Wilde, last in the line of a family of powerful sorcerers and owner of Abracadabra, a Magick Shop in her tiny home town, finds herself in a bit of a pickle when she discovers the body of her best friend's husband in his office. With Elise and herself on the police's list of main suspects, she makes it her mission to uncover the identity of the real killer.
Teaming up with a charismatic investigative reporter, an old British sorcerer from another millennium, her eccentric aunt Tilly and a grumpy cat, it's only a matter of time until Kailyn becomes a target herself.

This was so much fun. I'm usually wary of cozy mysteries as the main characters often turn out to be TSTL dumbasses. Excuse my French.
Not Kailyn. She was smart, witty and resourceful, and I loved her dry sense of humor. The addition of a bunch of crazy sidekicks, a side of romance and some paranormal elements made it even more enjoyable, and despite a slow start and the fact that even later on it didn't pick up much pace, I was thoroughly entertained throughout. This story is clearly more driven by its characters than by its mystery, but I'm not complaining.

Sharon Pape has an undeniable sense for details and atmosphere, and I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel.

Kailyn Wilde s descended from witches, runs a magic shop, and has Merlin drop into her life in Magic & Mayhem by Sharon Pape. Even if you're not a huge believer in magick this is a fun read where a small town shop owner struggles to find out who murdered her friend's husband while dealing with her recently deceased mother and grandmother as well as a silly aunt and displaced sorcerer. If that sounds like a lot going on, well, it is, but it is also highly entertaining.

As a fan of cozy mysteries with a magickal twist, Magic and Mayhem did not disappoint. A grippingly good read, I couldn't stop until I finished reading the whole book. I love it when a book does this sort of thing to me, where a well thought out plot, characters that could jump off the page and into real life, and a storyline that will keep me hooked into a book like this. A great book from start to finish, I'm already looking forward to Kailyn's next adventure! A great first book to start off the series, I'm expecting good things to come from Pape.

This May you will have to put Sharon Pape's Magick & Mayhem on your to be read list! I loved this Paranormal cozy mystery so much that I can tell you it is in my top 5 paranormal cozy series to watch for this 2017 season! There is so much to love in this story. A befuddled wizard, struggling psychic, and a witch with store to run. When main character Kaylin and her aunt stubble upon the body of her best friends husband she quickly learns she will need more then magic to find the real killer. Nothing is quite as it seems in this mystery and I loved it. I will anxiously be awaiting more in this series and know that paranormal cozy mystery lovers like myself are going to be so enchanted with this story!
I also love this cover don't you?

Kailyn Wilde is a fun character in Magick & Mayhem by Sharon Pape.

The author brings a modern twist on old tale, complete with magic, spells & Merlin.
I enjoyed the story and learning about the small town of New Camel.

When Kailyn inherits Abracadabra, her families magic shop, she has no idea that this inheritance will put her life in danger while trying to save her best friend.

Her mother & grandmother are a colorful addition to this debut novel.

I am looking forward to reading the next book.
I voluntarily read an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.

First in a magical new series! We are introduced to Kailyn Wilde who has taken the reigns of the family's shop, Abracadabra, after the untimely death of her mother and grandmother. She goes through the motions of her days with her Aunt Tilly, and tries to figure out what has been going wrong with their magic. She still gets " visits" from her mother and grandmother, and she is trying to attempt to summon a familiar. If all of this isn't enough, Kailyn and Tilly stumble upon the dead body of their lawyer who also happens to be Kailyn's best friend's husband. It is now a rush against time as Kailyn and Tilly try to solve the murder along with the mystery of their magic.
This was a strong start to what promises to be an enchanting series. Kailyn is delightful as the main character with a supporting cast of family and friends who add just the right amount of splash to have this book all come together. The story was full of twist and turns, and I loved that Kailyn didn't always turn to magic to solve her problems. It is a real story about real people who just happen to have that little something extra to make a truly unique story.

Magick & Mayhem was a really fun cozy mystery in the supernatural vein. Kailyn Wilde inherits Abracadbra from her mother and grandmother. It's a magick shop that sells lotions, balms and offers spells for sale for believers.

She and her aunt, who owns a fortune telling and tea shop next to Kailyn's, go to their lawyer to sign some papers and find him dead on the floor. His wife Elise is Kailyn's best friend, so suspicion falls on all three of them. Kailyn decides she has to get involved in solving the murder. The local police, who aren't very sympathetic, aren't thrilled with her sleuthing, but she gets help from her friends in the community and uses a little white magick along the way.

The plot was interesting and offered a lot of twists and turns. The characters were well drawn and were very entertaining, especially with the appearance of a mysterious wizard. The unmasking of the murderer was well done.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it, especially to fans of supernatural cozies.

Kailyn Wilde has inherited her mother and grandmother’s magical shop, Abracadabra a little sooner than she would have liked, but maybe it’s time she started honing her magickal abilities. What better place to begin? Things take a dark turn when she stumbles over the dead body of her best friend, Elise’s husband. Police like Elise for the crime, but Kailyn doesn’t believe a word of it, and using her magickal talents, her magic cat and her eccentric aunt Tilly, she sets out to prove her friend innocent. I think this book will appeal most to the New Adult market because of Kailyn’s age and mannerisms. Love that magickal cat!
