I am reviewing a copy of Loving Luther through Tyndale House Publishers and their partnership with Netgalley:
At the age of six Katarina Van Bora is given to the church body and soul to help ease her families burden. At first and older girl name Terese starts to bully her. But Katarina soon learns that Terese lost her Mother, and that she didn’t have a Father, her Mother had been a prostitute.
Katarina is an intelligent young girl, who has a curiosity that sometimes gets her in trouble and as she grows older she doesn’t loose that curiosity, and it makes her question her calling in life. She begins reading Martin Luther’s passages which quickly lands her into trouble.
Katarina soon realizes she must leave the convent, she must leave the Church. Her Faith is strong, but she no longer feels being a Nun is her calling. Katarina and some of her friends decide to leave the nunnery, and follow Luther’s teachings.
Katarin Van Bora leaves the nunnery not knowing where her next meal will come from, where she will lay her head, but she feels this is what God is calling her to do, follow Luther’s teachings, more importantly Christ’s teachings.
Soon she finds she can have a life for herself and still live for God, she discovers that it is okay to fall in love and get married. She discovers that being happy is not a sin.
I give Loving Luther five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!

Loving Luther by Allison Pittman was not what I expected. Having read a historical fiction bio of Katharina von Bora years ago, I anticipated this book to dwell more on the relationship between Katharina and Martin Luther and place it in the larger context of the Reformation. However, this was not the case as Pittman chose to create an introspective look at Katharina and how finding herself brought her closer to God and made her even more attractive to Martin Luther. This book misses the mark to educate those unfamiliar with the influence of Martin Luther and the Reformation, but it remains a refreshing take on an often overlooked figure, Katharina von Bora.

Loving Luther is the newest release by Allison Pittman. This book was just okay to me. I love to read about the love story between Katharina von Bora and Martin Luther. However, this version was a little too slow for me. The first two-thirds of the book was hard to get through but it finally picked up about the last third of it. I am glad I pushed myself to keep reading on as I did enjoy the ending.

Three stars.

I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

I really enjoyed learning a bit about the woman Martin Luther eventually took as a wife and reading the historical fiction account of her life. I enjoyed the author's writing style and found myself easily able to picture the settings and people she was writing about. This was an easy, enjoyable read that I'd gladly recommend to a friend!

Left at a convent by her father as a small child, Katharina von Bora knows little about life outside cloistered walls. Though she takes her vows and maintains dear friendships, a part of Katharina still chafes under the strict way of life she has chosen. When the writings of Martin Luther begin finding their way into the convent walls, though, Kat begins to look at her life-- and her faith-- in a much different way. With the help of Luther and his friends, Katharina a group of fellow nuns escape the convent to embark on a new adventure. Without a family to support her, Kat must live in the homes of Luther's friends and supporters while the reformer himself tries to find a husband for her. Will Katharina learn to navigate life outside a religious order? Will she trade one life of service for another, or dare to risk her heart for a chance at love and a family?

Allison Pittman tells a compelling story of both love and faith in Loving Luther. Rather than focusing on Martin and Katharina as a couple, like Luther and Katharina, Pittman simply tells Katharina's story... and what what in intriguing story it is! From a fascinating look into life inside 16th century convents, to the dangers and details of the Reformation and its leaders, I couldn't put the book down. As a proud protestant, I've always loved this era or church history, but I also appreciated Pittman's tact in not maligning our Catholic brothers and sisters. I loved than women of deep, abiding faith existed both inside and outside convent walls. As with all of Pittman's works, this one was excellently researched, superbly written, rich in historical detail, and full of compelling characters.

Gorgeous writing and a very accessible story considering the subject of it. It is a wonderful romance and Pittman does a great job evoking the turbulence of the times.

Allison, a fabulous read!!
Jody and Allison have both done an awesome job with the different versions of this story about Luther and Katharina.
I enjoyed Katharina's sneakiness, steady and reliable sense of adventure along with Girt and Hans.
I felt that this story was mostly adventure.
I also liked that this book was told in 1st person my fave genre. I felt like I was more connected to the main character.
I did feel that it was unfair the way that her family treated her but at least her father did make sure his daughter was safe. (I'm glad I was a married woman when my dad up and done that because I didn't like my step mother at all! She took what was rightfully mine).
There were some favorite scenes of mine but I don't want to give anything away!!
I think I'd go stir crazy in some parts of the book esespecially since I'm claustrophobic. I don't like small spaces!!
I like this book too because I love reading historical fiction and they have the ability to take me on adventure and time travel without having to pat anything lol!!
I think that Allison has done a great job in her research of this particular subject. Her style of writing is awesome!!
Thank you Netgalley for letting me read and review your books!! No compensations were received. All words are my own!!

Loving Luther, by Allison Pittman, is a romantic historical fiction based on the life of Katherina von Bora, wife of Martin Luther.  As evidenced in Luther's real-life references to his wife, the child and young woman Katherina grows up an independent thinker, despite the various turns of her life.  Her questioning leads her to bits of Luther's published work, and she eventually becomes one of the twelve to renounce their vows with his help.  In life outside the convent, Katherina slowly grows to recognize her love for Martin.
