Since I did not finish this book I will not be reviewing this on an social media sites as I don't feel it is fair to the author, it might be a smashing book for other people or have an amazing ending. It just wasn't for me.

Thank you for the opportunity to check out this novel!

Thank you, Netgalley, for this arc.

Good story, strong and solid about the value of family. Secrets from the past are brought into the open, and brothers forgive one another.

As a childfree person (someone who does not want children), I found this book interesting to read. Benedict wanted nothing more than to start a family with his wife of 10 years, Estelle. They tried different things - getting tested, IVF, etc. - everything short of adoption. Estelle eventually came to terms with it (and had some great things to say at the end of the book), but to Benedict nothing more was greater than having a family: a wife, a child, a pet. Eventually he becomes content with the way things are, and it was great to see that in a book. So many books end up with the couple "miraculously" becoming pregnant, and it was just so refreshing to see something that is not the norm become true - there are people who don't want children, who can't have children and who are okay with that.

You couldn't help but admire Gemma. My heart just went out to her. She was plucky and brave and sharp as a tack. I loved how her relationship with her uncle Benedict slowly formed, and she was not afraid to say whatever was on her mind.

And, of course, the ending was picture-perfect. This village was full of great characters, and any of them would be great in a sequel. Overall I really enjoyed this story! Recommended.

This was such a wonderful, feel-good book. I loved to see the main characters really find themselves, and develop their deepen their relationships, as the book progressed, and the positive changes that happened to members of the community left you feeling uplifted. Fans of The Curious Life of Arthur Pepper will not be disappointed with Patrick's latest novel.

This was a really sweet story about what it means to be a family, secrets and living in the moment. When Gemma shows up at Benedict's door his whole life changes and so does that of so many in the town. This young girl shows them all how to live again, through gemstones and jewelry Gemma and Benedict change the lives around them including their own.

Well written, this book keeps you interested with an underlying mystery about why Gemma is there and if her father really knows she is there. I found myself routing for Benedict and all the townspeople in their quests to be happy. With just a little encouragement and maybe a magic gem or two the town springs back to life.

I couldn't put this book down it was infectious in its joy and I found the information on different gemstones fascinating. A truly enjoyable book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Park Row Books for an advanced reader's copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved the author'sprevious book. Benedict Stone reminds me a bit of Arthur Pepper. I enjoyed the backdrop of this novel -- the meanings behind gemstones and the thoughts of how the magic of them can change a person's life. This was a sweet story of second chances and family.
Favorite quotes:
“You’re like some kind of doctor ... But instead of medicine you prescribe gemstones.”
"...but it’s the person who owns the gem that makes the changes…”

Benedict Stone is a delight. A story of change and rebirth and acceptance. It is colorful and bright and extremely relatable. Those wondering how Phaedra Patrick could ever top her last novel, The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper, will be pleased to discover her newest gem.

I really enjoyed this story of a couple married 10 years that were in a "slump" Set in England, a jeweler and his artist wife are having a hard time accepting that they can't have children. When Estelle moves out to kick start her stalled career, Benedict is lost until his niece shows up unannounced at this door. Gemma shows Benedict that he's capable of change and starts teaching him to clean the house and eat healthy. He begins to court his wife in hopes of her coming home. Gemma is a teen who works her magic of healing not only Benedict and Estelle, but Benedict and his brother Charles also. I love the tidbits and facts about the various gems that Benedict works with as a jeweler. When they find his father's book in the attic with the legends associated with gems it's a treasure of information. A wonderful story of family and love.

I fell in LOVE with Phaedra Patrick writing when I read the AMAZING The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper so I was beyond excited when I saw Rise and Shine, Benedict Stone on netgalley! I know that this was going to be added to my all time favorite books and I WAS RIGHT! This book was awesome!
Benedict lives in the quiet village of Noon Sun. Nothing is going right for him, his marriage is not doing well and nor is his jewelry store. The one day a surprise ends up on his door step.
Gemma is Benedict’s estranged brother’s teenage daughter. Benedict and Charlie (Gemma’s father) haven’t talked in over 20 years. Gemma barges into the Benedict’s world and turns everything upside down…but is Gemma just what Benedict needs to get his life back on track?!?!
Ok super fan time!!! Phaedra Patrick did it again! This book was amazing! Phaedra Patrick writes such amazing adventures with characters you will fall in love with! After reading Arthur Pepper I was no like old man will have my heart the way Arthur does but not the case I LOVE Benedict! Phaedra Patrick writes these amazing colorful characters that will stick with forever! I also love how her stories have strong families in them. The love these characters have for one another is so heart warming!

This is a lovely story about 2 estranged brothers, an estranged wife and a teenager niece who stirs things up. I couldn't stop reading this book and I liked how the author linked the characters with gemstone meanings. This is a charming and up-lifting story about "it's never to late to change."

Very much like her first book, Ms. Patrick created characters that are simply charming and attachable. I was instantly charmed by Benedict Stone, so, I was hooked into the story straightaway and read the whole thing in less than a day.

RISE AND SHINE, BENEDICT STONE follows the story of a local jeweler. Orphaned at eighteen, Benedict was left to raise his younger brother, Charlie, and run the shop. However, events estranged the brothers apart for many years. Until, his niece, whom he never met before, knocked on his door one rainy evening. Although unprepared and a bit overwhelmed, Benedict finds that Gemma’s presence brings him a certain awakening.

This is one delightful read. It tackles family and communal issues, childlessness, and one's sense of self-efficacy with a good sense of honesty and depth. It’s a bit magical, too, in some sense, but totally works for the whole premise. Maybe some parts happened a bit opportunely or sappy, but I find them all part of the charm that hooked me. I think it’s this kind of simple, but sparkling read, that this troubled world needs to have more.

I do recommend that you, guys, get a copy soon.

Benedict Stone is a dull jeweler who hasn't had an easy life; he was his brother's guardian before his brother moved to America from their sleepy little Noon Sun town. He and his wife are having marital struggles, junk food constantly calls his name, and his jewelry store hasn't experienced a recent bout of success. All of this changes when his sixteen-year-old niece, Gemma, daughter of his estranged brother in America, shows up on his porch one night. The story of their unlikely friendship and the impact she makes on his life and those around her is truly heartwarming and remarkably well written. For those who think Phaedra Patrick couldn't have done something as fantastic as The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper in her second novel, I'm here to tell you that she has. For anyone who ever loved the Pollyanna movie with Hayley Mills and those who gravitate towards redemptive stories with secrets and atypical quirks, this book is definitely one for you. If you haven't pre-ordered it or requested it from your library, do it today!

It's a good thing I had no plans today. Once I turned the first page. I was hooked. Just like her first novel, Patrick has such an honest and uncompromising way of creating characters. They draw you in and you immediately care for them, feeling invested in their success.

The story follows Benedict, a jeweler in England, whose niece arrives suddenly in his doorstep. The daughter of his estranged brother, the real had never met, and yet suddenly, he finds her changing him in unexpected ways.

Beautiful, poignant and down to earth. The only thing I disliked was I reached the end.
