In this seventh outing with TJ Jensen and clan, TJ agrees to assist with resort renovations at Gull Lake, for a friend of her father. He has recently had a stroke and needs someone there to watch over the renovations, make decisions about what has to be done, and keep a developer at bay. Having grown up in a resort setting, she is the perfect person for this task. Even better, she brings along family, friends and pets for this extended stay. Rounding out the group, is a parrot named Blackbeard. He belongs to the owner and he is one smart and chatty bird. Throw in a purported pirate treasure and some treasure hunters and this could be a great adventure. What they did not expect was to find a dead body in the attic the day they arrive. She knows the man was killed, but when the case is deemed accidental, she is wondering what the deputy is hiding. TJ sets to investigating what happened as well as trying to find information on the land developer who is trying to force a sale of the resort.

This was a fun story. There was a lot going on with the younger sisters, treasure hunters, greedy land developers, environmentalists and a whole host of busybodies and volunteers in the small town. There are some rather quirky characters that add a bit of humour to the story. There is a bit of romance that causes some questions and confusion in TJs mind to round out her concerns. I like TJ, she is loyal, smart and persistent. I love the interaction between the characters. It is a wholesome, multigenerational series. The mystery had some starts and stops, some twists and turns, some red herrings and finally a surprise ending to it all. I really enjoyed this story and will be reading more from the TJ Jensen series.

Princess Fuzzypants here:
Hail, hail, the gangs all here or so it seems when Tj brings family, friends and pets to help a family friend who has had a serious health issue. He owns a hotel that has fallen into disrepair. He is not going to be able to return and run the place so Tj and her crew decide to spend their summer doing renovations and getting the place ready for sale.
There is already a prospective buyer but he wants to tear everything down and build a big resort. The townspeople are divided. Some see this as a boon to the local economy while others look at it as the first step toward the run of their way of life. Adding more uncertainty to the mix is the decision to call a murder an innocent death. Since it is Tj who found the body in the hotel, she feels compelled to investigate deeper. What baffles her is the local cop seems to know more than he is saying. Who is he protecting?
What is all boils down to is an enjoyable summer read. I cannot say this is up with my favourite books lately but it was entertaining.
I give it four purrs and two paws up.

Kathi Daley's Treasure in Paradise is book seven in the TJ Jensen Mystery series. This is the first book I have read in the series. Reading some of the prior books might have helped, but I was not at all lost. TJ and her family are headed to Gull Island to oversee renovations on a friend's resort property. The vacation starts off badly when a body is found in the attic. The local police seem to be covering up a murder, and TJ sets out to determine why. The setting and characters are enjoyable. The mystery kept me guessing until the end. I do plan to add the previous books to my reading list.

Treasure in Paradise

by Kathi Daley

Having read the first book in the Tj Jensen Paradise Lake Mystery Series, I was eager to read the newly released seventh book, Treasure in Paradise. It opens with the captivating “There is magic in beginnings.”

I must admit that although Tj Jensen stumbles onto a crime scene in the first chapter, it took me a little while to orient myself. I don’t think the fault of the confusion lies with the author but with my expectations. The series up to this point is set in a family owned resort in the mountains in Serenity, Nevada. In this book we find Tj spending the summer supervising the restoration of Turtle Cove Resort in South Carolina for a family friend who has had a stroke. She brings along four familiar faces, but we are also introduced to a whole new cast of characters.

Treasure in Paradise has interesting characters whom Tj and the reader meet in her efforts to discover the killer of the man she found murdered at the resort and a long lost treasure map of pirate vintage. She also has conflicts with a resort developer and a sheriff who seems to be hiding something. There are some relationship developments as Tj struggles with two half-sisters uprooted for the summer, her friend Kyle, and her father’s impending marriage.

I recommend this cozy mystery and am looking forward to the next one in the series, Fireworks in Paradise, to be released in October of 2017.

I would like to extend my thanks to netgalley.com and to Henery Press for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Rating: 4/5

Category: Mystery, General Fiction (Adult)

Notes: This series is one of five created by Kathi Daley

Publication: April 11, 2017—Henery Press

Memorable Lines:

There is magic in beginnings. some beginnings come as a rite of passage, such as a graduation from college, the birth of a child, or a wedding day. Other beginnings start off more subtly, as nothing more than an ordinary moment that evolves into a crucial event that, in the end, helps define who you are and who you will become.

“…even if you find Prince Charming and he’s everything that you ever thought you’d want, sometimes that isn’t enough. My grandmother used to say that love isn’t logical, that sometimes you just have to trust your heart to find the other half of itself.”

I knew in my heart that sometimes seeking justice wasn’t justified at all.

I have come to really love the authors writing. She has such an expressive way to write that makes everything come to life. Her stories are always filled with fascinating facts and I appreciate her diligence to details. I loved reading about the plight of the turtles and loved learning about them.

Tj has decided to spend her summer at Turtle Cove Resort helping her father's friend out. I love Tj so much and want to be her friend. She is someone you can trust and know she will always be there for you. Tj and her entourage pack up and head on an adventure that is exciting and action packed. The place they are staying at has an uninvited guest in the attic. Poor Tj finds a body that doesn't seem to be moving. It looks like Tj will have her hands full when the investigation starts . Why was there a body in the attic where Tj was going to be all summer?

Someone thinks there is a map that will lead them to a treasure that will make them rich. I was ready to join them as the author made the story so intriguing. How fun would it be to explore caves, and deserted land hoping to find buried treasure? Tj is suspicious when the death of the person in the attic is ruled as natural causes. Who is hiding something about the death? I love how the author gives us a great mystery with subtle clues throughout the book. Her books are always fun to read and Tj is a character that I have enjoyed getting to know. I have to mention Blackbeard the parrot. Oh my I enjoyed this bird so much. I could picture him talking away as he tried to give clues to Tj. As always the author delivers another powerful story that has interesting characters and a well written mystery that had me not wanting the book to end. I can't wait to see what is in store for Tj next.

I received a copy of this book from The Great Escapes Book Tour and Netgalley. The review is my honest opinion.

“Treasure in Paradise” earns 5/5 Treasure Maps!

Kathi Daley writes several series of which I am a big fan, but I had not yet started the Tj Jensen Paradise Lake Mystery series…what was I thinking! I’ve missed so much! Henrey Press has picked up this series, so the new book, seventh in the series, is the first place I’ll start. Fans, I’m sure, will be thrilled rejoining Tj and her crew on another absorbing mystery, and newbies, such as myself, will be just as entertained. There’s enough background information to be comfortable with the characters and get glimpses as to how previous plot lines effect this story. Even though this series has all the components I enjoy in my ‘cozy’ mysteries—developed characters and an engaging mystery on which I can use my own skill to uncover the culprit, Kathi Daley’s signature style is still what makes this story a standout. Her humor, a few sweet romantic interludes, crafty characters, and very entertaining, albeit surprising, twists and turns leading to a big reveal is the reading treasure you seek!

The author does not make the reader trudge through any mud before getting to the story or the mystery of this read. This read was fast paced which I enjoyed. It starts with a trip across the country to help a friend. Then once there, Jensen love loves animals, falls in love with this parrot who is a key witness (yes, a key witness) to a murder. But, can the parrot relay the message it's small vocabulary? Here, the story picks up on speed, fun, and even more mystery. All in all, a good read!

I had read the first book in this series and wanted to see what TJ was up to. I had a little difficulty in synching up with the series and, because of that, I recommend that the books in this series be read in order. Whole relationships had come and gone. I will certainly go back and purchase the five books in between as I was really engrossed in this story.

TJ and her entourage have left Paradise to mind a resort in South Carolina. She is helping out an old friend and allowing her father and his fiancee some time on their own. Family members, friends and pets are all along for the ride. Little did they know that they would happen upon a dead body almost immediately.

Was it murder or was it simply an inconvenient death? TJ is compelled to investigate. Along the way there are lost treasures, lost memories and lost relationships to recover. It all plays out in a town that is being torn apart by whether or not they should have a huge resort complex built on their quiet little island.

That was one of the interesting things for me by not having read books 2 through 6 in the series. TJ not only investigates but does so in a manner so thorough you would think it is her job. Her family and friends expect her to do so and help her in her investigations. I'm really curious to see how that mentality developed in the series. It is very intriguing to me.

I did not figure out the whodunnit and there were clues and well as red herrings. I like when a mystery leaves me thinking – I should have thought of that angle! I look forward to reading the back list and new books in this series in the future.

I was provided a digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher via Netgalley.

Kathi Daley has the talent to take her readers away and place us there in the story with her characters. I love it when I read a book that takes me away from everyday life for a while. This book does that. Treasure in Paradise takes TJ and her family out of Nevada as she's preparing to oversee renovations on an under the weather friend's resort on an island off South Carolina. When a treasure hunter turns up dead in the attic, TJ must investigate to find out 'who done it.' Her friend Kyle, her sisters, doc and grandpa are along for the summer. I enjoyed the book very much and only regretted when I came to the end. This book is part of an excellent series.

Treasure in Paradise is the seventh book in Kathi Daley's Tj Jensen Mystery series. In this book we find Tj, her young sisters Ashley and Gracie, her Grandpa Ben, his friend Doc, and her best friend Kyle heading east to spend the summer on Gull Island off the coast near Charleston. There have been many changes in Tj's life. She has separated from her former boyfriend and is getting used to the idea of her father's recent engagement.

When the opportunity to oversee the renovation of a family resort similar to her family's in Paradise Lake while helping out her dad's good friend, Tj jumps at the opportunity for a change. What she expects is a tranquil setting, the sound of crashing waves, and a time to relax. What she never expected was to find a dead body upon arrival, a treasure map, and a less than reputable developer.

When the case is closed far too soon and called death by natural causes, Tj and Doc, a retired coroner, don't buy it. Tj puts her detecting skills to work, unraveling more than one mystery. And while she is at it, she is able to help her dad's friend Garrett save his resort.

This is a good read with characters you care about. I have enjoyed this series and do recommend this book

This is a great book; this is the seventh book in the Tj Jensen Paradise Lake Mystery series written by Kathi Daley. Tj Jensen and her family head to Turtle Cove Resort for summer vacation, but their plans for rest and relaxation are thwarted when they find a dead treasure hunter in the attic of the resort’s main house. Initially vowing not to get involved, Tj quickly changes her tune when the Gull Island deputy on the case closes it after a bare bones investigation. All evidence points to foul play, and Tj’s determined to uncover what the deputy wants to keep hidden. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

First I wanted to go and stay at the picturesque place, and chuckled as the group unloaded to go into their lodging, people, dogs and cats, and they soon add a parrot.
Tj’s friend needs help and since her Dad can’t come she is there to lend a hand with what to do with the resort. Of course we know that this is a murder mystery, and soon we find that there is a body in the attic, but why are the police calling natural causes.
Kyle is there for Tj, and the girls, as they try and settle in I kept hoping for a spark between them. We meet the locals, and they made me want to move there, so welcoming when they find out whom they are, and some remember a sullen Tj.
We also have deal with big conglamorant who wants really to steal the beautiful land Tj is trying to save, and all the while you want to smack them.
The answers are to come and you won’t be able to put this read down until you know the answers, a quick, sweet and enjoyable read. Now I need a parrot.
I received this book through Great Escapes Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

Always a delight to spend time with Tj, her family and friends. Despite hating the cliffhanger ending, I enjoyed the book. Lots of heart, some suspense, and a bit of bird humor.

I am very pleased to share with you a bit about Kathi Daley's book Treasure in Paradise, which is out April 11th. This is the 7th book in the TJ Jensen Mystery series. This is a welcome burst of summer adventure and in this book TJ and her family are in for more then just R & R on their summer vacation. There is just something so wonderful about a great Pirate story, fabulous animal helpers and a summer resort! Don't miss this one out April 11th!

Tj, Kyle, her sisters, grandfather and Doc go to Turtle Cove Resort on Gull Island to help out a friend of her father's after he has a stroke. He has decided he needs to have the resort, that has fallen into disrepair, fixed up and sold to someone who would maintain the integrity of the property and keep it out of the hands of developers. Tj is to oversee the renovations. Before anything can get started, they find the body of a treasure hunter in the attic. What was he looking for in the attic? Is there a treasure? Was he murdered or did he die from a fall? These questions kept me moving forward, eager to find the answers! I loved the addition of a parrot in the story, especially one as smart as this one. I hope we don't have to wait too long for the next book in the series!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader's copy of this book from NetGalley.

Review:

The characters are well rounded and three dimensional. Tj is a loyal friend, persistent, and she cannot leave a mystery unsolved. Kyle is a wonderful friend and is very happy to help Tj and her sisters anyway he can. It was nice spending time with TJ, Kyle and her sisters and some of the other characters that I have met from this series. The author is very talented in her character development and as usual, she created characters that I would like to know in real life. I felt like I would like to visit Gull Island to spend time with the residents.

The mystery is carried on well throughout the entire book. There were enough suspects to consider and clues to sift through that I was not sure who the killer was until it was revealed at the end. And there is a second mystery, whether or not there is really a treasure buried on the island, and if so, where it is at. As usual, the author intertwines a couple of mysteries to create even more suspense.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. If this a new to you series, you can read this without getting confused. And if you are are regular to the series, this book is a great edition.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. I would like to thank NetGalley and Henery Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I read the first book in this series a few months ago and now come back to it in book 7. The characters have (unsurprisingly) matured and developed and settled into their various roles. This book sees part of the family up sticks to Turtle Cove resort to help a family friend. But when they arrive they find a body and soon Tj is trying to work out why the local sheriff is sure the man died of natural causes. Add in a treasure map and a greedy developer and Tj is soon trying to solve 3 things at once.

I enjoyed reading this during my latest run of nightshifts. The mysteries are well thought out, although I thought that they were wrapped up a bit abruptly at the end. I like the characters though, so I'll keep my eye out for more in this series.

Cozy and Lighthearted.
I enjoyed this book, it didn't blow me away but it was lighthearted and easy to read.
I liked the characters although T.J sounded very innocent and I would've liked to have seen her get up to a bit of mischief, but other than that it was well written, humorous in parts and had a bit of a whodunnit feel to notch up the suspense.
I wouldn't mind reading some more from this author.

Kathi Daley does it again! Tj takes readers to an island full of mystery, murder and treasure. I loved traveling somewhere warm reading this book. I think I even got a tan! Tj is a smart, fun, and keen sleuth that other amateur sleuths should meet! I know fictional characters. But she held this book together and if possible would get 7 stars!
