Not sure what I was expecting from this book, but it is more like a tour guide than an in-depth look at Charleston, however, I did find it interesting and enjoyable.

This is a book filled with beautiful photographs of Charleston I just would have like a little more text. The photographs are varied and they do highlight the beauty of the city. Enjoy it for an armchair tour through the historical southern city.

This is a delightful photographic tour of Charleston, So. Carolina which serves to whet the appetite for more--travel, photographs and information. I've never been to Charleston but it is a city I've wanted to visit. This book serves many purposes in my view: a wonderful keepsake, a beautiful tour guide for the armchair traveler and an inducement to further study of that beautiful and historic city. Many pages led me to wish for more information about the images I was viewing. I wanted to know about its colonial and Civil War history, but also about the present day city and the farmers' market and the making of sweetgrass baskets. I also wondered about looking for more information about some of the historic buildings and plantations. I was surprised at the photo of Fort Sumter, expecting a larger site. Now I feel a need to learn something more about that important Civil War site. Charleston seems a city living in many eras and this book evokes them all.

All keepsake books should be so evocative!

Charleston: A Keepsake, by Antelo Devereux Jr. is an enjoyable photography book. The city of Charleston, South Carolina is the primary focus of this book with over 130 interesting and intriguing photographs.

In the Introduction, the Devereux shared, "Charleston was founded in 1670 on land granted to eight proprietors by English King Charles II.... A survivor of two wars, five major fires, several hurricanes, and a devastating earthquake, Charleston flourishes. The city's buildings, houses, gardens, and people exude history, charm, southern grace, and beauty. These photographs are a sampling of the past and present flavor of this wonderful city and its people."

Charleston: A Keepsake is geared towards various ages, from young adults to older generations, especially recommended for those interested in travel photography.

A lovely coffee table book highlighting the beauty and the architecture of the city of Charleston. I've never been to the East Coast, so I know absolutely nothing about what Charleston is like, but I was surprised to see how many of the old buildings have been preserved.

And then I ruined it by wondering how many of them were built by slaves. Most of them, probably. There is a photograph of a memorial dedicated to the slaves who built a certain church, but...still...

The photography is lovely and shows off a beautiful resilient city. I have never been to Charleston, but I get the feeling from the photos that it is a majestic lady, with its beautiful buildings, clean streets and the fountain at the start really took my breathe away.

My husband and I will be visiting Charleston this summer. I was shocked to find this awesome photography book on NetGalley and thrilled when I was accepted to receive copy.

The pictures in this book are fantastic. This book really gives you a wonderful look at Charleston. I loved the southern charm of the buildings. One of my favorite photos is on page 91 it is a brick wall with a huge oak tree behind it. It just really spoke to me. I was raised southern and in small towns. Now I live I Florida and we visit St. Augustine a lot. The photo's in this remind me of St. Augustine. I know I am going to love visiting Charleston. I can't wait to see the places in this book in person.

I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com to read and review.

Beautiful photography, a bit more text describing the background and history of the photographs would be nice.

The only problem with this book is that it's too short. This book is filled with breathtaking photographs of Charleston that mixes old Southern Charm with a bit of the present. It is one of those books that transport you there and gives you a glimpse of what she was once like.

Antelo Devereux Jr.'s pictures of Charleston are amazingly beautiful. He captures the city perfectly. I only wish there was a little more information about the buildings in the pictures. This doesn't take away from the book but it would be better for those of us who have never been to Charleston.

Beautifully illustrated book but I wish there was more background on Charleston and more detailed captions for each photo.
