Loved this sweet cosy read Ideal holiday read.

Annie lives in London and out of the blue recieves an unexpected letter, an unknown aunt and adventure begin in Salt Bay

Beautiful book with a mixture of characters, Salt Bay and a choir that Annie the protagonist sets herself to revive.

The reader is transported to Cornwall and the question is will the choir be revived and will she stay or return to London.

I will see what other books this wonderful author has written.

This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended

When Annie gets a letter from a lawyer requesting her to come to Cornwall, she takes a few weeks before deciding. When raised by a single mother, who never said anything good about her family, it was hard for her to think of them kindly. However, with no job, no boyfriend (she caught hers cheating), and sharing a flat without true friends she makes the trip. Meeting hunky and broody Josh, and her great aunt, who she grows to love, and meeting fun Aussie Kayla and others makes for a rich community. Liked this one, although didn't like the cousin, but guess there is one in every family. Would recommend.

Books based on seaside towns are always my favourites and Annie's story is no different. From the minute Annie steps in to Salt Bay, I knew that this was going to be a special place, holding a lot of special people inside of it - despite Annie's attempts to escape the place because it's too boring. Before I had stepped foot in London, I believed it was a city I wanted to live in, however, after experiencing the hustle and bustle for real, I would much prefer a cosy seaside town where the community is more like a family.

Liz described the town of Salt Bay so gorgeously; from the quirky townsfolk,  'The Whistling Wave' pub, the beaches, all the way to our handsome leading man, Josh Pasco. It's really hard to come to terms with the fact Annie refuses to live in such a quaint and beautiful town and I wanted to explore it all for myself. Every part of me wanted to jump inside this book and take a stroll through the town with Annie and all the other wonderful people she gets to meet along the way.

Living with complete independence for twenty-nine years, Annie was overwhelmed by the love and attention that the people in Salt Bay were suddenly giving her and that was down to not knowing just how well-known and popular her secret family are. Alice, Annie's great-aunt was a delightful character and had Annie wrapped around her thumb pretty much as soon as she stepped through the front door. A little vulnerable old lady like Alice could easily convince you to stay a little while longer, despite her attempts to fight against her ever-growing illness. One slip though, could have Annie holding a guilty conscience forever. The relationship between Alice and Annie starting off extremely rocky, with Annie's negative outlook on her newly found family, she wanted to know how they could ever have abandoned her mother when she was young and pregnant. Annie agrees to stay in Salt Bay until Alice is able to find a full time carer - just enough time for Annie to find out all the secrets that had been so deeply buried for much too long. That is, until she finds out her mother had not been telling the whole truth and her relatives aren't so bad after all.

Despite the drama coming your way, Annie meets so many more incredible people, such as Kayla, an Australian escaping her 'perfect' family, the entirety of the choir Annie has put together and moody, but delicious, Josh Pasco. Josh and Annie seem to continuously get underneath each other's skin and most certainly didn't have the best start to meeting one another. However, no matter how much they want to believe they despise each other, they find themselves drawn in. Their chemistry was gradual, but heart-warming, as Annie brought out the best in Josh and after finding out why his moods occurred on a daily 24/7 basis, the two began to work as a team and soon enough, the romance blossomed.

I really enjoyed watching Annie and Kayla piece together a new choir - in memory of the people the town had previously lost to a tragedy - and it warmed my heart to see Annie go from a woman who wanted nothing to do with her new family and the town, to a woman who wanted to reignite something special in to Salt Bay and give everybody hope that their broken hearts could soon again be mended. 'Annie's Lovely Choir by the Sea' was an uplifting and inspiring story filled with loss, love and acceptance. I smiled from cheek to cheek, as Liz showed me that the most beautiful things can be found where you least expect them and to never take things for granted or hold a grudge, because you never know how much time you have left with people before it's too late.

When I picked up Anne's Holiday by the Sea it was purely because the story is about a London girl going to Cornwall to meet long-lost relatives aka everything I used to dream about! But little did I know at the time that I would become absolutely addicted to this book and in turn the series, where it got to the point that I stalked the authors Instagram until I saw other releases! But before we continue into my shameful weirdness (100% not ashamed though) and let me explain the story

Annie Trebarwith has grown up alone since her mother died, now 29, and living in a flat share with (in my opinion) and obnoxious flatmate, just discovers that her scumbag (My creative license there) of a boyfriend is having it off (and out comes my Essex girl) with Melinda from Stuart's office! But then (cause she truly hasn't gone through enough), she gets a letter from a solicitor (Attorney for all you American's out there) and her life is completely flipped upside down! It turns out Anne has a Maternal Great-Aunt, who wants her to travel to Trebarwith House in Salt Bay, Cornwall as soon as possible! And with that Anne's life is changed forever.

This book is bloody brilliant! And I loved every up and down! Heck, I even liked Toby (the dirty buggar)! And why this ex-pat sits in America dreaming of the UK, like magic Annie's Holiday by the Sea takes her there, with all its weird characters that could only truly be in a Cornish village.

The writing in this book is truly beautiful! It is so descriptive that I could almost smell the sea and taste the chocolate, and the people of Salt Bay could almost be like my friends, and that is truly what made this book for me, the sheer talent of the author and her ability to bring such a beautiful story to life.

The is only one score I could ever give Annie's Holiday by the Sea, and that is 5 (million) stars!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It took me ages to get around to reading this one. It was mainly because I'm addicted to psychologicalthrillers lol.

I really enjoyed this book. It was funny and sweet and not too fluffy. It's a lovely, warm and feel-good book. It's a book that will lift the spirits.

I highly recommend this and look forward to reading the other books in this series.

I went into this half-expecting a sort of knock-off of [book:The Chilbury Ladies' Choir], set in the present. I had a moment's hesitation on seeing use of the present tense. I hesitated – for a minute. And within a couple of pages all doubts and expectations fizzed away, and I was just enjoying the thing wholeheartedly.

Yes, sure, there are echoes of other books. It's about a young woman who goes reluctantly to see an elderly relative out of duty, grumps about it for some time, makes a bad first impression in a few different directions, and slowly has her shell cracked wide open by the place and its people and the music they all make. It's all been done before in one combination or another.

Doesn't matter.

It does not matter how many other people might or might not have used an idea before you if you can use it to the utmost – can milk it for all the humor and genuine feeling that can be squeezed out of it. There are reasons some basic plotlines are used a lot – it's because they can be good foundations for great stories. If you can weave it through with vivid and real dialogue, vivid and real characters, a vivid and real setting – it almost doesn't matter at all what the basic plot is. And Liz Eeles has infused this book with dialogue, characters, and setting that embody all the synonyms Word gives me for "vivid": bright, vibrant, colorful, brilliant …

Oh, here's a good example: "
Kayla beams with delight and gives Roger a huge hug. ‘Aw, you’re not so bad for a grumpy bastard Pom.’ ‘Gerroff,’ growls Roger, going pink but looking pleased. ‘You’re daft as a brush.’

It's funny; it's heart-breaking. The characters will stay with me for a long time (especially since I absolutely expect to reread these books). What can I say? I loved this.

The usual disclaimer: I received this book via Netgalley for review.

Sunshine and unexpected happenings in the seaside made this the perfect summer read. I particularly liked the moments with the choir as although I really can’t sing I love music. It was just fun and enjoyable with enough substance to fulfil my lazy day wishes but keep me guessing and wanting to read it. There’s a Christmas sequel and I will definitely be reading it.

I enjoyed spending time with Annie, her friends and family as she moves to Cornwall, at first reluctantly but later as a conscious choice. The story of how Annie embraces her community, learns to trust her family and finds romance makes for a good and pleasant read. I especially enjoyed the descriptions of Cornwall and the warmth of this story.

Thank you to Netgalley and the Publishers for this review copy in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book in the Salt Bay series. I am due to review the second book, Annie’s Christmas by the Sea, as part of the Blog Tour and thought it would be better to read them in order!

Annie Trebarwith receives a letter from her late mother’s aunt. She has never met any of her family, as her mother had been disowned from them when she was pregnant with Annie. She also doesn’t know who her father is. Annie isn’t a ‘family’ person, having been just her and her mum and then being on her own after her mum died. She doesn’t know what Great Aunt Alice wants, but thinks it’s only courtesy to travel down to Salt Bay in Cornwall to find out. Her first impressions of the village aren’t good when she gets into an argument with a passing Mini driver, who turns out to be the handsome but extremely grumpy Josh Pasco. She only intends to stay a couple of days, but finds Great Aunt Alice in poor health and decides to stay a few weeks longer, purely because she feels guilty not to. Whilst staying, she gets persuaded to restart the Salt Bay Choral Society, who haven’t sang together since the Great Storm some 15 years before and where 7 of its members drowned. With London calling, will Annie be able to resist the temptation and stay?

You know you see some books and you just know that you are going to love them. This was one of those books! I fell in love with it from the first page! Annie is a very likeable character and has made me laugh so much throughout this book! Her back story is quite sad and it explains a lot as to why she’s like she is today. She’s not really a family girl and she seems quite uncomfortable with the thought of being around her new great aunt, but it’s also great for her to learn more about the maternal family that she never knew she had. Her family also widens when she’s introduced to Toby, a distant cousin. Now, while Toby has his faults (far too many to mention here!), I found his character absolutely hilarious! I loved the way he gave Annie so many ‘backhanded compliments’ (at least I think they were compliments!) when he first met her!

In fact, all the characters were great in their own way, and were so entertaining to read about – Roger, Ollie, Kayla had all made me laugh! The setting was also perfect. I always say I would love to give up the hustle and bustle of town life and live in a quiet seaside village! Whether I actually could in reality, I’m not so sure – especially after reading how difficult Annie found it to be in such a tight knit community where everyone knew your business, there are only two shops and only one road in or out! The Cornwall landscape must be absolutely beautiful in the summer, but so very bleak in the winter!!

Without going into too many spoilers, this was a brilliantly written book. Like I said, I have laughed my way through it, but also be prepared with the tissues towards the end – it caught me unaware! Definitely well recommended, and I’m now off to read the next instalment!

Five Stars!

When Annie received an unexpected letter from her great-aunt Alice she didn’t even know about, she’s a bit hesitant to even open it, but after reading it, she decides to pay a visit to Salt Bay. Annie doesn’t have a family in London and she doesn’t really like the idea of having a family or long term relations with anyone. She decided to visit Salt Bay for a short period of time, but as the circumstances require, she stays for a bit longer. At first she’s a bit taken aback with the place and people, but the more she spends time in Salt Bay, it starts to feel like home. Annie spend a lot of time with Alice and also Kayla, who is a barmaid from Australia. Annie also meets a local man Josh and they both have their own reasons not to get along so well at first, but after getting to know one another more, they start warming up to each other. At first it seems that they come from different worlds, they have more in common that you’d have thought.

It was a lovely debut novel. It sucked me in from the beginning and I was engrossed until I turned the last page. What I loved about this book was the small but tight community, well developed characters and the plot never got dull, there was always something going on that sparked your interest even more. As I have already said, I very much enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read the next book that takes place during Christmas.

Absolutely loved this book, I'm just so sorry it took me so long to finally sit down and review it. Loved the feel of it, the characters, I felt transported to Salt Bay and Cornwall. I can't wait for the next installment and to see what Annie will be up to. What a fun read.

Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher, Bookouture for the ARC. Apologies to them and the author for being late with my review - unfortunately real life sometimes gets in the way!

Oh what a lovely heartwarming story this is! I really, really enjoyed this book - oh God, here she goes again, loving all the books she's reading - well, I'm sorry, but it's true. It's not my fault I keep picking the most excellent books to review!

I have to confess I wasn't sure this book would be anything special. There are after all, many books set 'by the Sea', and choirs aren't particularly my thing. But I'm so happy I was wrong.

Annie's Lovely Choir by the Sea is a wonderful stories of family, secrets and community. Oh, and romance, of course. Not that Annie is looking for it - she's only come to meet Alice, the great aunt she had never met. Alice reminded me so much of my own great aunt Rene; now sadly in a better place. Reading about Alice was like getting a hug from Rene! Instead Annie finds a real sense of belonging, and makes some great friends.

The plot is expertly drawn and there are many elements to Annie's story. The characters are well written and believable, the narrative fresh and humorous and the descriptions of Salt Bay so good I want to go and live there myself. I'd even sign up for the choir!

It's a great summer (or whenever) read and I genuinely enjoyed it immensely. I cannot wait to visit Salt Bay again!

I really enjoyed the book, it has everything I love in a novel from start to finish. I can’t wait to read what the author has planned next!

Before picking up this book, I spent around an hour trying to decide what to read. I stood in front of my bookcases agonising. My kindle is chock-a-block with thrillers and fantasy fiction but nothing was grabbing me. I’d just finished a dark and twisty thriller so I thought I’d try something different. I do read women’s fiction as they call it, romance and all that jazz – but not often. I’m not sure, I think sometimes I feel that they can be too repetitive whereas thrillers are generally unique and captivating. Anyway, I decided I needed something light and easy to read. I hopped onto Bookouture’s Netgalley to see what they had. I like to sing so I gave this book a shot.

I have to say this book grabbed me from the very beginning. I just love anything with humour in it. This book is genuinely laugh out loud funny. This was good because it added texture to the book. It made Annie’s character realistic and she became an actual person that I would love to be friends with. Sometimes when I read books like this, I know exactly what is going to happen and the whole ‘i hate him but I will end up with him’ story line is just too obvious and not executed well enough to engage me. But this book was fantastically written. It has restored my faith in the genre. The characters were fleshed out in the most realistic way. I have to say that it has been a long time since I’ve read a book with such vivid characters whose personalities jumped off the page.

The sense of community in this book was a strong theme throughout. It was like reading about Ambridge from the Archers at times. The different types of personalities and the close knit relationships were heart-warming to read and you could actually picture this village and the variety of characters in it. Communities are becoming a rare thing and this book forces you to see the value of a close knit community and what it can do for your life. I want to go to Salt Bay!!

As soon as I finished this book I went to Goodreads and desperately searched this author’s name to see if she has written anything else and I was shocked to learn this is her debut novel. I absolutely loved her writing style and I can’t wait to read more. Hurry up Liz!!

Loved it. Can't wait for next instalment. Everything you'd want in a chick lit and it's set in Cornwall. Who can resist the first sentence - 'There's a hand on my arse - and it isn't mine.' The whole book had me chortling with laughter, right from the start. I fell in love with Annie, her sarcasm, her dry humour, her inner voice. I want her for a best friend!

An excellent debut novel from Liz Eeles. I really enjoyed the setting and characters in this book. The location was lovely - I wanted to be in Cornwall near the sea. It is an easy feel good summer read.

I really liked the lead character Annie and the themes of the story - love, family grief and how music can have such an uplifting effect. I was swept away into the Cornish setting of the magical Salt Bay with the quirky characters and places. Perfect supporting characters - Annie's great aunt Alice is a lovable character, Kayla the fun loving Aussie, Josh is gorgeous - handsome and sexy but moody and troubled and Toby who is manipulative and unctuous. I enjoyed the twists and turns in the story in the latter part of the book.

A thoroughly entertaining story which leaves you with a warm feeling. Fabulous book about family, friendship and the healing powers of music. I can't wait for the next book in the series. Highly recommended.

A new favorite author of mine! I loved this story!!

Sweet book if you like romance and happy endings. Just not my type of book. Girl meets boy who she initially dislikes and falls in love. . Girl meets long last family members. Girls starts a choir to help a sad community who suffered losses years ago.
