This is a good basic starting to read book. I loved the illustrations. They are simple, but also manage to be more interesting than you would expect with just basic easy pictures.

This is a cute silly book about a pink pig. The words are cleverly placed for easy reading by running your fingers below them. I can certainly see the potential with this method.
Many thanks to to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I AM a pink cat!
Now that I have grandchildren with whom I can share children's books, I have started to review a few more of them. This one was given to me by NetGalley in return for an honest review, so I tried it out on my 20 month granddaughter. Obviously she isn't starting to read yet, but this book works on two levels - as a simple book to read to a small child and as an early reader to a child who is ready to learn to read words.
On an initial read it seemed to be a great success - the Pink Pig introduces himself and then explains that he's not a blue, green or red pig - although the background colour is changing accordingly. On a second read through, I realised that her reaction had changed when we came to the next few pages - an illustration of a pink cat says "I am not a pink cat", similarly a pink dog, a pink turtle and a pink bird, all claim not to be what they are clearly illustrated as. If a 20 month child can spot that this is rather incongruous, I can't really recommend this book.
The illustrations are cute and the words are fine for young learners, so this book still has value, but it also has a glaring error. Maybe something can be done on a second printing to correct this.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, Xist Publishing.

This charming little pig tale stars an adorable pink pig that is... well you guessed it... pink! It is perfect for beginning readers as the book contains only 13 different words so it is totally palpable for a little one starting out on their independent reading journey. The author so brilliantly lists the words at the back of the book to aid with the word recognition within.
The illustrations are simple and vibrantly coloured which will delight a child... like eye-candy with words. Different animals: a cat, a dog, a turtle and a bird chime in verifying that they are not pink thus further expanding your child's vocabulary.
This would be a wonderful book to include in a kindergarten class or a grade one class setting. The "Reading Stars" series is a great way to develop a child's self confidence and love of reading. The books are designed to bring your budding reader success as he begins to read solo.

A simple beginning to read book. It is very repetitive and uses less than 50 different words. It’s a step above Dick and Jane book, but a few steps below Green Eggs and Ham. It is a perfectly repetitive book for kids to practice their words and reading. The illustrations help to tell the kids what they are reading.

A silly and simple story about a pig that is pink. He goes through various colours that he is not as well as different animals. A cute story for those beginning readers in your life. This would be a great book for a kindergarten or grade 1 classroom or family library where young readers are learning as well as to help them develop confidence and the love of reading.

Great book for beginning readers. There are a total of 13 different words in this book. It is about a pink pig. It is not a blue one or any other color, it is also not a cat or other animal. Small non readers can also benefit from this book by learning colors.

This book would be a good introduction for young children but I don't think it would be read more than a couple of times as the words they can learn from it are limited so its only 3 stars from me. It is laid out well and nice and bright.
