Bold and refreshing - a different book than her first, but no less valuable. Mock is one of the few authors who spills her authentic self onto the page and makes no apologies and we are the better for it.

This was an absolutely beautiful novel by the beautiful Janet Mock. This was such an inspiring memoir, with such a powerful message.

I became a fan after my book club read Janet's first novel "Redefining Realness..." I am in awe of a sheer honesty when it comes to owning and sharing her story with the world. Her writing is fairly straightforward and honest. I was elated to find out about her follow up novel. "Surpassing Certainty" is a solid read and will definitely be enjoyed by those who read her first novel. I would highly recommend reading her first novel first or else it will feel like you picked up in the middle of the story. It was satisfying to find out what happened after her transition and the ways in which she navigated through her world. I still felt as if her story were safe and guarded, but I was engrossed in the story and enjoyed every moment. I honestly hope she puts out another book about life in her 30's. This is a solid read, but again I highly recommend reading her first book to fully understand this part of her journey.
