This book made me think of what would you do if you were given the choice to stay in prison or be a mate to an alien? In this case Starr was saying she wasn’t guilty but still was found that way so she had to make a choice. The interactions between Torg and her did cause some problems, which some could have been solved with better communication. Yet what couple doesn’t need to work on that which made it more believable in a way. I did like how the book played out as there was some twist and turns I did not expect. It was one of those books you hate to put down till the end. I did receive an ARC copy from NetGalley for an honest review.

I first heard of this book with reviews from both Lola and Sophia, who are both better at reading and reviewing close to release date. That allowed me to be able to still request this book from NetGalley. I’m so glad that I did, because I found this book to be very sweet and fun.

The story starts with Starr Connor getting convicted of killing Jaxon Carmichael. She swears it was self defense and that she didn’t hit him that hard. However, the Carmichaels are a very powerful family. Starr is quickly sentenced and shuttled to a ship headed for another planet. She quickly learns that she is the only woman who didn’t volunteer for this trip. These women convicts were offered to live free as mates on an alien planet instead of living behind bars on Earth. Starr wasn’t given this offer, just forced onto the ship.

Dakon is a primitive planet. It used to have more modern conveniences, but was struck by an asteroid, which killed all of their technology and even drastically changed their weather. Now, the planet is much like Antarctica. Right after the asteroid hit, they were in perpetual winter for a while, but now they have some summer. They lost most of their population and pretty much all the women (they think a virus was on the asteroid that affected only affected the women). Dakon is rich in an illuvian ore, which Earth uses to power its technology. So the planets agreed on a trade.

Starr quickly becomes friends with two girls on the ship, Tessa and Andrea. Once they arrive on the new planet, the women are lined up and the men select their mates based on a lottery. Torg was third in line to pick, but as clan chief, he had some matters to deal with before he could head to find his mate. When he arrives, he gets the only woman that was left. She was nothing like he expected. She is small and blonde (the Dakonian women are large and darker skinned and hair color).

This was a fun story. Even those these two were complete opposites, they quickly come together. Starr make me mad when she’s thinking about nothing but getting home and fighting her case (which for that I don’t blame her), but she then continues to move the relationship forward. She even encourages sex with Torg (which she shouldn’t have done if she wanted to still go home). As this is a romance, I will say that it isn’t a spoiler that she ends up not wanting to leave in the end, so she doesn’t break his heart, but she didn’t know that when pushed things along.

There is also some suspense in this story. There is a Dakonian woman, Icha, who is used to the men falling all over her because she is one of the few women left on the planet. She likes to cause trouble. I was not a fan. Then there are booby traps that were set up. So there is the search for who did it.

This is a quick read, but a lot of fun. I like how Starr and Torg work to overcome their differences to become a couple. You see the cultural differences between the two. I liked seeing Starr taking an interest in learning to read and write in their language (she had a oral translator implanted, so speaking wasn’t an issue, though some words and phrases didn’t translate well). I would’ve like to see her try to learn more like making fires, cooking and other things like that. Her friends took to those tasks quickly.

I don’t know if there will be more books set in this world, but I would be up to reading them. I’m also going to look into more books by this author. She has another (that I also remember Lola reviewing), called Pets in Space. How cool does that sound??

What an great sci fi concept. A planet that was decimated by an asteroid that sent them back to the stone age and kills off their female population. And advanced over populated plant makes contact and is willing to trade females for rocks that power their civilization. The world building and cultural learning was great along with throwing in some good old fashion drama. I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this sexy hot alien story by author Cara Bristol. This author is fairly new to me and so far I’ve enjoyed all the stories I’ve read written by her. If you haven’t read this genre before this would be a good series to start with. I found this story to be well written, the plot entertaining, the heroine Starr sassy and smart, the alien Torg just wow, lickably sexy. When wrongfully convicted, Starr find herself shipped out on the next, well ship to a new planet. She has 3 months to get used to the idea that she is becoming an alien mail-order bride, even though she didn’t sign up for it. Will Starr adapt to her new life? Will Torg be able to protect her from the unknown? Guess you’ll have to read it for you self to find out what Starr and Torg do, because I’m no telling.
***I voluntarily reviewed this ARC for an honest review via NetGalley, this is my honest opinion and has not been influenced by the author, Publishers or NetGalley in anyway.***

A planet full of hunky, humanoid, yet lonely yearning for a mate gorgeous men. It is not a new or original premise really – but oh how I love them! I completely loved these two together. Torg was totally swoon worthy and Starr was funny and VERY relatable.

We will definitely be checking out more from this author in the future!

copy received through Netgalley for rreview
This is a quick sci fi read. Star has been convicted of a crime she did not commit. she is sent off as a mail order bride for a planet that is in desperate need of women, Torg is one of the lucky few how won a pick in the lottery to get one of the few women sent . A development at with his clan causes him to be late and he is left with the last woman, Star. At first glance, he is disappointed. She is small and has yellow hair. But he quickly sees the benefits. The story has some sweet moments and fun times. It also has a nice plot with a twist or two. I am not usually a fan of alien romances but this one was entertaining. I would read another of her stories.

Starr Connor has been set up......convicted of a murder she didn't commit she finds herself on a convict ship with 60 other female prisoners , destined as brides to the men of the planet Dakon .

Dakon, once an advanced Society , was hit by a meteor storm that wiped out most of the planets females and plunged the planet into an 'Ice Age' era without modern facilities .
Desperate for females , to stop the possibility of extinction , the Dakonians agree to supply Earth with an Ore in exchange for females willing to become brides/mates .
Torg , one of the lucky men who won a lottery chip, was late for the parade of females and had to settle for Starr , the last female left . Her small plump stature , blonde hair makes her stand out from all the others , who were tall, dark haired/skinned and statuesque ......for the Dakonians are giants in comparison , at least 7ft tall .
The immediate attraction between Torg and Starr , along with her quirky character makes for an interesting story as she tries to cope with the vastly different living conditions , clothing and food .
The realisation that the females are all convicted crimials , particularly Starr's conviction for murder , horrifies the Dakonians , who live life by very strict rules .
Torg must fight his aggressors for the right to keep both his position as Clan Leader and Starr .

The story does not rest just with these two characters but develops into a 'who-done-it' , with the potential for further books in this series .
It was a pleasant change to read a book in which the female lead does not have model looks/figure and where the females were of different characters .

This is my first time reading anything by this author. Her writing was good. I like the characters and the plot.
However, I had a few issues with the book. The first being character development it was lacking to me especially from starr. I would have love to see her grow a little more. The second issue was the worlds descriptions. I wanted to really see what the caves looked like and the planet. Lastly, I would have like a better understanding of the Carmichaels. It would have just helped to feel the threat they imposed.

Even though I had issues I still enjoyed reading this book and will grab more from this author.
Heat level -2

A nice futuristic romance with enough steam to heat up the stars. I enjoyed this one a lot.

What’s worse than being accused and convicted of a murder you didn’t commit? Maybe being shipped off to an alien planet with the climate of the Antarctica and a population mostly consisting of primitive males in desperate need of women. That’s exactly the situation that Starr finds herself, but can this alien planet really be any worse than prison?

I love an alien story! Especially of the we-need-women variety, although people may scoff and roll their eyes at them, I think they’re a lot of fun. Alien Mate was exactly that; a lot of fun. If you fancy a quick read which is a little sweet, a little sexy and has gorgeous aliens with horns, then give this a go.

The relationship between Torg and Starr didn’t start too well for either of them as both were taken aback by the other’s ‘alien’ appearance. But, I would almost put this in the insta-love category with the ease in which they manage to overcome this. All it took was a kiss and some horn rubbing. After this the story does fall into predictable lines. But, that didn’t stop me enjoying it.

I really liked this, if you are a fan of alien romances then definitely give this one a try.

An epic start to what I hope is a new series! Cara Bristol does an amazing job of telling this alien romance story. Although the premise is very common right now in romance novels, the uniqueness of the alien appearance and their planet's story is really good. After a major asteroid/comet strike completely destroys their way of life, the Dakonians have learned to survive but their female population never recovered and they need mates! Earth is willing to trade since they need the completely useless to Dakonian rocks that can be used as power sources.

This test group of fifty women to arrive as 'mail-order brides' will hopefully be just the beginning. What they don't know is that these women a female Earth criminals given a chance to expunge their sentence for a life on a new planet. Starr Conner is among these women, sentenced falsely of second degree murder and shipping unwillingly with the carefully selected first group of women. She looks nothing like anyone else sent to Dakon, she's short and blonde when everyone else is tall, strong and brunette. Her appearance makes her the last pick as a mate for a Dakonian. Can she find happiness with her new mate when her very appearance is off-putting? Torg is so happy to have a mate but admittedly wouldn't have picked Starr is he'd been on time to the selection process. Torg and Starr must face new lives together, deal with jealous native Dakonian women and Starr's past, which follows her all the way to this new planet.

This novel was well written, entertaining and, with luck, the start to a new series. I really hope more stories are told about this world. Starr and the other women have a huge impact on this planet as they become settled into their lives and start to plot to protect Dakon from the future potential greed of Earth. As we all know, Earth doesn't have the best history of not crushing those perceived as lesser when they want something and their demand for this new power source will only increase.

SO we have the typical set up, deadly virus/catastrophe etc that means on some alien world light years away, there is a planet full of hunky, humanoid, yet lonely yearning for a mate gorgeous men. It is not a new or original premise really - but oh how I love them!

I really enjoyed this one. It is quick, insta lust/love but the characters are just so endearing that it was a lovely story to read. It is not overly deep, but it IS engaging and fun to read.

The hero was lovely. At times bossy and alpha, at times a bit awkward and unsure of himself. The heroine equally likeable and you were rooting for these two to have their HEA.

I hope it continues as a series as I would definitely read more.

4 stars.

This is a fast paced and steamy read. Starr has been accused a crime she didn’t commit and has been sent to Dakon. Dakon needs women and Torg is looking forward to finding his new mate but what will happen when he finds the real reason Starr was sent to Dakon. The story is entertaining and the chemistry between Starr and Torg is hot. I liked it!
