This is a sweet WW2 romance based on the real love letters between the autoress's parents.

War marriages can never work. Right? Frank and Helen are in to verify for themselves - both of how they are made of as individuals and the couple.
Their whirlwind romance and marriage is a thing of hope and strength between them as they serve in various war hospitals - Frank as a doctor, Helen as a nurse - but also a source of bitter unexpected hurts. This is normal in the most marriages, but in their case the war is raging around, they see each other just on very precious moments based in planning and luck, as they never know where the other one serves. So, they write to each other, often daily, sharing their lives. Fighting death, pain, prejudices (Helen is of German origin, but born in the US), rumours and occasionally each other, Frank and Helen rely in their bond and their faith to survive - and more, to live - within the war.

I have enjoyed this tender novel with so much heart. Maybe it is because of its personal nature, but Frank and Helen come of the pages as realistic couple. Both very strong people with values you have to admire, yet in love they can be vulnerable, both petty and forgiving, fighting and apologizing, always thinking of each other.
Also, there is a dash of unexpected humour present (M.A.S.H. kind of) well mixed with war-based pain and cruelty, which makes for a touching, sad yet hopeful read. And the hope prevails.

My only criticism is that the novel is a bit prolonged and could be a tad shorter - yet the war was long, too.

Enjoyable read.

With Love, Wherever You Are was a really good romance. The story was a slower one, but I actually quite enjoyed it. The letters grew on me and I loved how it showcased how a relationship/marriage progressed beautifully. It was awesome to learn that the story was based on the author's parents' love story.

The book had some difficult scenes and I never knew how things were going to go. I felt bad for certain characters at times and the ending was unexpected (it happened to quickly; I wanted more!).

All in all, With Love, Wherever You Are was very good and I recommend it to fans of historical romance novels -- especially if you like WWII novels.

This book is based on a true story and is written by the main characters daughter. From letters her parents wrote to each other during the war Dandi Daley Mackall crafts a beautiful story of love, loss and hope. Helen is an army nurse who meets Lieutenant Frank Daley, an army Doctor. While in training, they get to know each other and swiftly get married. But when put out on the field they are separated, often finding themselves serving in different countries and all they have to rely on are letters and the occasional days leave that may enable them to see each other. Together with friends and family who encourage Frank and Helen serve in the war in the hopes that they will survive it.
Despite the losses that are inevitable in a war, this story was hopeful, firstly because both characters made it out of the war alive and later on we are told that they had two daughters and lived to a ripe old age. A lovely story

Sweet and lovely read! SO endearing and a really lovely story behind why Mackall wrote this. She was one of my favourite authors when I was a child, and reading her books now was quite touching and like a chat with an old, familiar friend.

This book is based on the true love story of the author’s parents. They met in a men’s room during World War II and soon both were serving on the front lines of Europe. I usually don’t like reading letters in books but these letters served to keep moving the plot along. They even had a secret code that I enjoyed solving right along with them.

I enjoyed getting to know Helen. She was a spunky nurse. She had a winsome way with her patients. She felt their pain and worked to alleviate it in any way she could. Her compassion for her patients, whatever their nationality, was beautiful.

Frank knew from the start that Helen was the girl for him. He was dogged in his pursuit of her and in trying to find ways for them to be together. Though he and Helen loved each other, they experienced conflict, realizing that there was much they didn’t know about each other when they got married.

This book really highlights what it would have been like to be a medical professional in WWII. I could feel their shock when the first concentration camp victims showed up for medical care and their stories started to be told. I wanted to weep with Helen when she entered a room of amputees and realized they were just boys.

This is a poignant, moving book. I learned more about WWII but it didn’t feel like a history lesson ever. It was just a story of two people trying to do their best to serve those around them and to keep their marriage intact for when they got out.

With Love, Wherever You Are is based on a true love story of newlyweds, Helen Eberhart Daley and Frank Daley. They find themselves separated when they are sent to Europe during World War II. Helen works as an army nurse and Frank is an army lieutenant and a doctor. The two are only able to connect through their letters to one another. Between the distance and danger will their marriage make it through the war?
I thought With Love, Wherever You Are to be a pretty good read. I felt like I was transported back to the World War II in Europe and the emotions the nurses and doctors must have went through treating the wounded. I love reading Helen and Frank's letters. So heartbreaking and emotional at times and sweet and tender at others.
I would definitely rate this book 5 stars and believe it to be a must read.

With Love, Wherever You Are by Dandi Daley Mackall brings the reader in the midst of World War II. It tells the love story of a doctor and a nurse who marry and correspond throughout the war from different parts of the world. Told through many letters as well as narrative, this book was based on a true story and real letters. I knew that as I began reading; however, I did not realize until later that the story was put together by the daughter of the couple. This was a fantastic read and I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves clean romance and family stories. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

A lovely WW2 romance based on the author's parents story, told mainly through their correspondence. The narrative between the letters is well-written, filling in the story, and giving a perspective from both Helen and Frank, with a touch of humor sometimes. Their frustrations of being separated, and determination to find a way to see each other, and remain loyal to their vows is conveyed well. War is the ugly reality they both deal with daily, especially gruesome as it drags on and they get closer to the action. Not much is glossed over. Their love story is a bright contrast to their daily challenges as an Army doctor and nurse. Faith, hope and love shine through the darkness they face. I couldn't rest until I found out how it ended for them, and their siblings too. I really liked the added index with details of the real people, including pictures and actual letters, plus the author's personal account.
Highly recommend for mature readers who enjoy an authentic romance tale set in wartime.
