A very good sequel to Sleeping Giants. It was full of action and twists, it kept me glued to the pages. I read it very quickly and can't wait to discover what will happen next.

Absolutely riveting read, could not put it down. I love the format of the novel being like government reports, letters, and transcripts of video interviews/journals. The revelation of the connection between the robots and Earth was surprising and I'm glad it was something that I could not guess myself.

What a fantastic sequel! While Book 1 was a bit more talky and setup, this one focuses on the action. And it delivers! Book 3 has now moved up into the "next 5 books" range. I can't wait to see what happens.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the copy.

When I requested this, I did not realize it was a sequel, so it took me a while to get to this. But I'm so glad I ended up reading Walking Gods. This was interesting, fun and gripping.

A fascinated and compelling follow up to sleeping gods. A bit confusing, but I should have reread the first book before reading. Neutral is a compelling writer.

This is more my fault than the book's, but having not loved the previous book, I shouldn't have expected something dramatically different in its sequel. The concept of the story is awesome, but I found myself bored and skimming pages to finish it.

ABSOLUTELY UNPUTDOWNABLE

This is one of those books I really just have to say, WHY DID IT TAKE ME FOREVER TO PICK THIS UP!?

Waking Gods happens a year after the events of the first book. Themis, the robot discovered in the first novel has been somewhat normalized, and the world is business as usual until another large robot suddenly appears in London. Will it attack? Does it have pilots the same way Themis needs pilots? Why appear just now? Why in London?

I absolutely LOVE this! After finishing this, I think I like this more than the first book (or maybe it's because I read that about four years ago, lmao). I read this and I was instantly hooked. I really like the interview/journal way of story telling. I think it really fits the story well. I also like the little humors in-between conversations, the sarcasms and just amusing things to make many heavy conversations a bit lighter.

Like Sleeping Giants, Waking Gods is fully of exciting things that you will never want to put it down! What's really good about this is how Neuvel just puts one big thing after another. You'll never get a break from all the things that are happening. It may seem like a lot but all these things happening are all thrown so well together that when things just culminated towards the end, it all fits so well.

Quick things I like about this because I don't know how to coherently gather my thoughts (lol): (1) I like Rose's constant questions on what really happened to her. Just one of the most intriguing things about this novel from start to finish!, (2) still love the relationship between Kara and Vincent, (3) I like that we get to know more of the unnamed man doing the interviews, (4) I'm not completely sure but I think that the political aspect is lesser in here. It's there but it didn't feel as much as it made me think so much in the first book. Nothing wrong with it though since it didn't really affect my enjoyment of this, (5) the ending is absolutely frustrating because it's such a freaking cliffhanger and I CANNOT GET OUT TO GET THE THIRD BOOK!!!

OVERALL, Waking Gods is a fantastic second book. Usually middle books feel so dragging but this one is just an exciting, quick read and it made me really curious of this world, these robots, these characters. I'm excited to get the third book.

Curiouser and curiouser!!

The first book was epic. The predecessor follows in the same vein. The momentous storytelling through the dialogues and news reports etc brings the story to the visual front amazingly. It kept me on my toes throughout.

That explosive ending sealed the deal. Piquing the curiosity levels further. Incomprehensible thoughts about what will be the third books fate. How will the story unfold further and end?!?

A great conclusion to this epic sci-fi series! I loved the characters, format and writing! I can't wait to see what the author does next. If you're looking for a trilogy with heart, action and sci-fi elements, I highly recommend this series!

This book is fine, but I didn't like it that much. Part of this is my fault - I didn't pay attention and didn't realize that this book was a sequel and I hadn't read the first book. However, I didn't really like the author's writing style, either, so I don't think I'll probably go back and pick up the first one.

Disclaimer: I will not be providing a link for the review since I didn't really like the book. i don't want to publish a negative review (I never do) in my blog or Amazon because I don't want to generate bad attention to the book. I found the pacing to slow and the plot a little bit boring. So much that It was really hard to finish the rest of the book.

I tried picking this up again for the third time and it still didn’t grab me as I hoped it would. I love the premise behind the series and enjoyed Sleeping Giants but I didn’t connect with the Neuvel’s writing this time around. The dialogue was strong when used, but there was a serious lack of character development that made me hard to care about anyone. I guess that’s the nature of a book that uses this style of storytelling. At this point I don’t think this book is for me.

I’ve been intrigued by the series for so long and I kept putting it off because I was waiting for all of the books to be released. However I am so glad I finally picked this series up because it is absolutely amazing. I love the concept of it and I also loved the covers of the books. The hard cover books are gorgeous. The story flows really beautifully and I love where the author took this.

I get the feeling that it would be advantageous to read the first novel in the series before reading this, however the concept itself is enjoyable. Very good characters and will scratch many sci if readers itch!

One of my favories in 2017. I liked the construct of each chapter as a document, debriefing or recording - it makes the overall plot more of a slow reveal. The Unknown Man - a nameless but powerful interrogator is an interesting "character" and the giant robot Themis also wields power but through silence. Great mix of military chefs and minions, take-charge women and unlikeable, unknowledgeable politicians.

Review:

What I Liked:

Characters. I once again enjoyed the characters and was glad that we got to revisit the same ones in book two. This time around I felt that the author did a better job of showing character depth with the interview format.

Plot. This series just keeps on getting better with every novel. The plot started off being okay, nothing new, but as it went on it intensified. It also in my opinion went away from common tropes and Neuvel came up with a unique and intriguing plot.

Twists. Just like in book one, the author once again did a great job of shocking me. I was next expecting a lot what happened throughout the novel. I'm still unsure how I feel about some of the more drastic twists but it kept me reading.

What I Disliked:

Format. I was a slowly getting used to the interview format. However, the last half of the novel once again changed some of the format and it confused me so much it was hard to read.

I recommend checking out this series but I think audiobook format would be the way to go with this one.

I was initially interested in reading this book, however my tastes have shifted and I do not think I will be able to get to it soon. I do, however, plan to read it at some point in the future. Many thanks to the publisher for sending me a digital copy!

Having previously read and reviewed Sleeping Giants, I was thoroughly looking forward to this books release! The story didn't disappoint. It was a great sequel and I enjoyed how Neuvel managed to escalate the action compared to the first book, which I now need to read all over again.

10 years have past since the metallic entity was introduced into the world. When another colossal machine suddenly appears in the middle of London humankind is desperately trying to figure out whether this alien race has come in peace or if this is the start of an invasion.

I really wanted to like the series. The first book was mainly about procuring all the metallic parts, putting them together, and figuring out how the metal giant worked. The book is told not in chapters but files, recording transcripts, and newspaper clippings. While the premise is interesting I found myself just not caring about the characters as much as I would have liked. When reading everything felt very clinical that I just could not be drawn into the storytelling. Maybe I’m just not used to this type of storytelling but I could not enjoy the story (as it was intended) as much as I would have liked.
