I love how this book really brings science to life! Not only that, but it tackles some of the issues that our tweens are facing today (such as cyberbullying) as part of the story. My kids used to love watching Big Bang Theory with us (until they got too inappropriate) and have used many of the show's storylines as a jumping off point for further research. This book (and probably the whole series) is a great way to continue to feed that interest in a more appropriate context. There were a few things we didn't get, since we jumped into the middle of the series, but it won't be an issue since we're going to get the first ones and read them together, too.

The George series is a middle grade series by Stephen and Lucy Hawking, and features George and Annie, two young scientists who are interested in space travel and cosmology.

In this outing, George and Annie deal with cyber-bullying, explore space, and are chosen to be future astronauts sent to Mars.

I like that the book has several fascinating essays on different subjects (Volcanoes, Oceans, the moon Europa) that are written clearly and in a manner that is able to be understood by younger readers. We have the entire set in the library, and will be happy when this is added to our collection.

Other books in the series:
George's Secret Key to the Universe
George and the Unbreakable Code
George and the Big Bang
George's Cosmic Treasure Hunt
George and the Blue Moon
