From story to story, Zhang wows with her perfect portrayal of Asian/American culture. Each story subtly interlinks and is both brutal and comforting. I cannot recommend this enough.

I did not finish this book therefore I cannot truly rate this book or review this book in its entirety. Because Netgalley requires that I give a rating, I'm giving it three stars based on what I have read so far (about 50%). I think this book may be interesting for some readers (which is why I requested it) but it didn't engage me the way I thought it would. I might give it another whirl later down the track!

This is an intense but extremely rewarding book which is being lauded by several of my favourite writers like Lena Dunham and Miranda July.
