This is a topical procedural featuring a well drawn detective. It's got some good twists and is well written. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

I am so bummed about this book. This is one where I was really looking forward to reading it due to the summary. In the beginning I was into the story; although, maybe not the characters so much yet. However, I continued on with reading this book. Try and try as I might, I could not find any emotional connection to the characters or the story. Not without some effort. I got a third of the way in but it was a long process. I walked away thinking I would come back to the book but never felt the desire to want to pick the book up again after my break.

Deadly Game was had to get into. For one, I don't like the font. Why try something different? Isn't the typical book font good enough? Perhaps I had a way to change it, but I don't know how. 20% in I almost gave up. There was no hook as the very slow intro gave me no reason to keep going. But I persevered and ended up liking the novel. Some of it is very well done. Some of it pedestrian. The sense of a thriller gets lost as the author keeps changing to different scenarios. But he persisted too and finally gave us something to read. I liked that! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
