I had forgotten this was a memoir when I went into it. I honestly thought I wouldn't like it. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The writing was great and I loved reading about Elisabeth's journey, particularly their grief and how it affected them!

Such a unique book. Elisabeth Voltz did an amazing job. The characters were just so lovely and a perfect fit for the story.

This is one of the only books in the last three years to make me cry. It's heartbreakingly moving and will stay with you for months after you read it.

I'm still not sure why I ended up picking up this book to ask for the arc, if it was the name, the cover or the small book blurb. But as I started reading and finished up, it didn't matter anymore why, I was just glad I did. And glad that Netgalley approved of my request!

The writting just has so much fellings as it talks about their childhood and growing up to the pets deaths. As someone that grew up with lots of pets always, even thought not on a farm, each death also hit me as it tells us about it.

While I did enjoy it a lot this was a very hard read for me. I cried multiple times and always made sure to have tissues at hand when I decided to pick it up. This is not something that would usually appeal to me cause I'm very sensitive about any animal abuse or death and prefer to read and watch stuff that doesn't have those elements.
So imagine my surprise when I actually really liked this book. I wouldn't say I enjoyed it but it touched me in a certain way where I was in awe of author and how she made each animal feel loved and special. Also, illustrations were great and made me love the book even more.

I read this book in one sitting, it was impossible to put down. Heartbreaking and uplifting in equal measure.

although the autor's description on things are not something i can relate to, i did appreciated the way it was done. i did felt like the autor was sharing something with me, more than the stories or the words written, this feeling of nostalgia, of homesickness. not for a place, but for a time. for a warmness of my childhood.

This was an interesting read. It is not something I normally would have picked up. But I enjoyed the stories and learning about life on a farm.

A collection of true short stories about growing up in a big family on a big farm, albeit a farm full of sick and dying animals at times. I opened this book with no expectations or knowledge of the contents, and expected a novel, but I was not disappointed, as the writer brings us into her childhood and her memories of a unique upbringing.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I started reading this, and realized it's not my cup of tea so I did not finish it even though it looked very interesting!

I really liked the stories and the illustrations were great but I felt as though this book was more intended for a younger audience than it's targeting. Still, a fab read though.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC of this book. A good collection of stories. I enjoyed most of them. Some were a little boring or slow. I'd still recommend this book.

I received a copy of this in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley.

This book is a memoir full of interest and honest short stories. I found that divvying the book up in shorter stories made it much easier to follow and kept my interest.

I definitely liked the book more than i thought i would.

This was a memoir about growing up on a farm and being the youngest of ten siblings and the animals on the farm, specifically the many over the years that were taken as pets. The writing was good and the illustrations were adorable. The stories were touching too. I just think the book is more for someone younger who loves animals or reading and it's good for when you want to lay forlorn in your city bed thinking about the way other people grew up. I just did start to get sad and bored with all the animals dying but it's more of a personal thing than anything to do with the book itself. I just didn't get much out of it. It was pleasant enough though.

Thank you NetGalley and Animal Media Group LLC for this arc.

I loved the beautiful cover and gorgeous illustrations. Shoebox Funeral is a memoir of the author's growing up on a farm in Western Pennsylvania presented through the stories of her pets and various farm animals. It was a sweet read, if somewhat idealized. As someone with a backyard graveyard of her own, I related to many of the author's memories.

This book seems to have three titles, and I'd read it before, so revisiting, I was surprised to find it just as moving and poignant as I did the first time. It deals with the caring of dead and dying animals, and a girl and her siblings. Complex, poignant and interwoven in a beautiful way, it defies description.
A beautiful book.

Memoirs are not always an easy read and that being said, this one was really difficult as it has lots of animal deaths. I hate when there are animal deaths but since it's a memoir we can't do anything about it. So proceed with caution. This was a memoir of Elizabeth Sholtz about growing up on a farm with nine other siblings and revolve around the deaths of much beloved pets on her family farm.

The writing was good and the illustrations were adorable. The stories were touching too and as I said earlier, not light to read. I started getting bored with all the animal deaths as the story progressed. I expected to get more from the story but overall it was a pleasant read.
