Cute, simple, funny, a very quick read. I enjoyed the hour I spent reading it, but I felt like it could have gone further with different styles of drawings and narratives.

Disclaimer: I received a copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

We read break up stories and they make us sad but this one is the opposite. I do not know whether is this because the stories are really funny or the situation is so absurd that laughing is the only thing you can do. The doodles were connected to the stories and make the, more humorous and light. The weird break up stories will make you think that people really are horrible sometimes. Some of the stories will make you shake your head and will make you ask, "What?!?" (yep, like the minion meme).

I read the book in an hour. I received the e-book in a Kindle format and it's not formatted yet as it was published. The title is fitting because the stories told and illustrated could have been handled better. I like that the book is unique in a sense. Also, the published stories are not restricted to heterosexual relationships but there are LGBT+ stories, as well.

All in all, I like the book. I recommend it to people who would like a few laughs at the absurdity of some break up stories, who would like to cheer themselves up after a disastrous break up and would like to feel that they are not alone.

This is a really funny collection of short breakup stories, and I liked it a lot. A breakup is generally painful, sad, and sometimes a mess, whether you’re dumping someone or you’re the one being dumped by your (now ex-)significant other, but the author manages to make you laugh all the way through her book, starting with the dedication, in which she writes :

To that one dude, for being such an inspirational dick.

From « the guy who throws his gameboy at his ex when she dumps him » to « the one that demands she give him back the underwear he got her as a gift », all 100 pages of breakup drama have their own cute little illustration, and even though some of those don’t add a lot to the story in itself, they do add to the humor in the harsher breakups.

All those stories come from different people, which explains the slightly different tones between the various texts, but the drawings serve a double purpose here, and help the author give to this collection a feeling of consistency.

A critic could be made that the premise of the book is a pretty simple one, and that it doesn’t require much effort (or time) to read it, but if you’re looking for something light and fun to read on a sad, rainy day, this is the book you want !

I was drawn to this book because of the concept of emotions and the catharsis of drawing and writing is extremely relatable. I was looking into adding this book for our graphic medicine collection to reflect mental health and relationships through the medium of comics and graphic novels. I was drawn in right from the introduction as Hilary shared a bit of herself with the reader. Each of the stories were either entertaining or sad but otherwise didn't inspire me to want to read more. Even though this is a book that features stories from multiple people, you wouldn't know it by looking at all. All the stories are in the same font and all the drawings look like they are done in the same juvenile doodle style. There would be better flow if each story had distinguishing physical characteristics to set them apart from the others. This is just a collection of break-up stories...and I think it can do better.

With colorful, funny and cute drawings we have "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do... But Yo Could've Done Better."

Who haven't went through that bad break up you don't even want to talk about, or those horrible ones that while not funny on that moment, as the time passes you see the fun and the slightly better perspective you have now. This is what we have with this book. People's break up stories, from how they broke up or tried to break up with their significant others (from back in middle school to college and adult life) and how they were dumped. Mixed with art from Hilary Fitzgerald Campbell!

Nicely done and a easy read.

This book is friggin awesome. I loved it so much.

It was hilarious and analytical. Especially told how much of jerks people can be.

Thanks netgalley for granting me an opportunity to read and review this copy

I did enjoy this book and the illustrations were really simple, yet entertaining and beautiful. This book is a collection of break up stories. However, those stories were so short that it felt more like break up confessions. Some were funny and made me laugh out loud, some really made me cringe, and some made me feel so awkward. All in all, the stories are really short but I enjoyed them and the illustrations are beautiful.

This is an adorable, quick read. It’s a delightful collection of poorly executed break ups, with drawings to match,

A perfect hybrid of Campbell's cartoons and documentaries. I enjoyed this quick read and would recommend it to anyone who needs a good laugh and catharsis.

This book has short break-up stories and illustrations to go with it. The cover is really simple and this simplicity makes it beautiful. The stories are sad, but the way they are written makes them somewhat funny. There weren't enough illustrations for me to consider it a graphic novel and most of the illustrations weren't even related to the story nor were funny. This book can be read in one sitting. It took less than fifteen minutes for me to finish it.
"Breaking Up Is Hard To Do... But You Could've Done Better" would be useful when you're going through a break-up and want to feel better. After all "people are terrible" is the starting and ending line of the book.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Wow, this was fun, not long......some Oh jaw-dropping moments. Fun art, and a BIG laugh. Sometimes we all need to laugh and that I did.

This book is a compilation of break-up short stories that will surely make you laught either due to its absurdness, cringeness (if there’s such a word!) or awkwardness! Some stories are painful to read but the theme, style of the fonts, how it was told, and the drawings makes it lessen the impact.

All of us goes through break-ups. They are messy and it’ll really brought you great pain or relief, but as you look back from it (maybe for a long time), it does give you lessons and something to laugh at.

This book is great! I like it dearly. Thank you for the free e-copy provided by Animal Media Group LLC and the author itself, Hilary Fitzgerald Campell vis NetGalley.

I liked this book because the stories were original and funny. The cartoons in this book were so cute and the stories were so funny. I would recommend this to anyone for a quick read.

I winced, I laughed (ruefully), I pulled several variants of 'wtf? face'. And having read it all, I'm incluned to agree with the author - humans ARE terrible. But this adds perspective and while I am also a terrible human being I'm significantly less terribble than many. That was good to know. The cartoons were a bit hit and miss for me and some of the stories were just horrible. But still a morbidly funny read.

I am new to Fitzgerald Campbell’s cartoon work, with Breaking Up is Hard to Do, But You Could’ve Done Better being my introduction. This is a bit of a tricky book to review, as the majority of the content is stories of break-ups submitted to Fitzgerald Campbell via twitter and presented here without authors listed. Each of these stories then has an accompanying cartoon. Based on the cartoons included in the book, Fitzgerald Campbell’s work occasionally struck my funny bone, but mostly felt a little flat to me. The stories themselves were sometimes engaging, sometimes bland but mercifully short, yet all felt like pretty standard sponsored link content from Facebook. I wanted to like this book, and I had hoped for more depth out of both the stories and the cartoons. Instead, this was a very quick read that did not leave me feeling much of anything.

I feel like my feelings about this book are balanced out to middle. A bit indifferent. I wouldn't say it wasn't funny at all, but I haven't laughed out loud once. The little stories kept my attention, though, so I wouldn't say it wasn't worth reading it. They were okay. Anti-climatic at some times, right-out mad at others - they did seem like things that happen occasionally to all of us. I could write a couple of stories like them and I'm sure most of us could. For the little time I was reading this book, it kept my interest and I found the illustrations cute. They are not brilliant or hilarious, though. I think it will be forgettable, but it was a nice one time read.

I gave it 3 stars out of 5, according to NetGalley's rating, as in maybe I recommend it. I'm sure some people might like it more than I did and some will not like it as much. Try it to figure out which one is you! ;)

Quick fun read. The stories reminded me of many of my high school “romances” and brought back memories of the joy of dating and ending relationships. There is a place to submit stories and I have a couple I might share

The formatting on the kindle was @ little odd. First letter of new stories often appeared on the page before.

This wasn't really entertaining at all. It was essentially just a bunch of assholes writing about what assholes they were in past relationships. Hard pass, thanks.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with the eARC for an honest review.

I gave this a two out of five stars. Some of the stories were pointless a few were funny. Some of them included topics with slut shaming, insulting the other person's physical appearance, and misogynistic language. Which I wasn't okay with and still not okay with. Some of the stories seemed like there was only half the story in it.

OK, well... I guess I didn't really want to read a bunch of break up stories after all. Or maybe I just thought I would enjoy them more. But there did not seem to be anything special, or particularly funny, or even unusual about them.

I mean, if you want an interesting break up story, let me tell you about when I finally got the courage to dump my loser boyfriend after he "accidentally" burned my house down. Maybe there is an interesting story like this in the book, but I wasn't able to get to it. I couldn't finish the book.

The illustrations were cute, but they seemed to be just random illustrations. I had expected that they were going to be more like cartoons describing each break up. So my expectations may have affected my enjoyment of the book.

But in reality it's a book of break up stories, and I just didn't enjoy it.

Many thanks as always to Animal Media Group and Netgalley for the review copy. As the author says, "at least there's always more toast."
