Gun shots, explosions, drug lords, torture and Kaylee will discover that she can find a way to trust.

Kaylee has found safety with an old friend and Hugh will need to find out if he can learn to have faith that perhaps her secrets are worth investigating.

The attraction between Kaylee and Hugh is magnetic and this slow burn is full of suspense, exciting twists, and a plot worthy of must read romance.

Don't miss this entire series!

On the Chase by Katie Ruggle

It's so hard to find good romantic suspense that's not paranormal, borderline erotica, or involving a SEAL. They all follow the same basic framework. Katie Ruggle is different, and I love her books! Grace/Kaylee is an amazing heroine. She's scared, but will put herself in danger in order to do the right thing. She's so strong. Hugh is a great hero. I love his relationship with his dog, too. The action and twists are non-stop, and the romance is swoony and wonderful. I can't wait to read more books in this series!

I loved the characters and the storyline development of this book. It was absolutely one of my favorites so far and I can't wait to delve in to the next one that this author writes. The storyline was simple, enjoyable, and entertaining.

Kaylee and Hugh's story left me wondering how many lives they actually had? They almost died so many times I lost count! This was an action packed story! I missed book 1 in this series, but will have to go back to read it since those characters played a big part in this story as well. It didn't take away from this story though.

There was non-stop action as Kaylee and Hugh fell for each other. Their banter was witty and real and I loved it. I loved how snarky they were to each other and how much their relationship felt real even though it was happening so quickly. It was a good read and I'm excited to read the next one.

On the Chase involves Hugh, one of Theo’s partners from book 1. He’s been injured and no longer on street. Sitting behind a desk with his K9 partner is pretty boring but running into the new occupant of Jules’ home brightens his day. She beautiful, mysterious, and lights up like a firecracker with his teasing.

Contacting the same person who relocated Jules and her family, Kaylee has become part of the large family in the rundown house in a small Colorado town. Known as Grace, she’s trying to make her way in unfamiliar waters with a hotter-than-sin cop watching her every move. Their slow boiling attraction increases intensity with one passion-filled kiss and just as quickly cools right off when someone takes a shot at them.

I enjoyed the content, the pacing, characters, and world building. There is character development but keep in mind that Grace (along with Jules and her family) is harboring a huge secret and to let anything slip, especially to a cop, could be disastrous. The dynamics between the three cops in the series are wonderful. They truly are brothers in all ways that matter whether they are sporting the uniform or not. Jules and her family accepted Grace immediately and she became one of the family.

There is continued character development in On the Chase with both the new character and everyone we met in book 1. I was able to feel the emotions of the characters - Grace becoming accustomed to her new home, anxiety over being discovered by those hunter for her, Hugh’s feelings for Grace, and the continued build-up of Jules’ situation. The world-building also allows for clear visualization of the story as I read along. I enjoyed another action and emotion-filled novel by Katie Ruggle.

This book was pretty good. I had been on a romantic suspense kick lately, and this definitely satisfied that. I enjoyed the romance and the story.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and the second book in the “Rocky Mountain K9 Unit” series. I found this to be a very enjoyable read and could be read as a standalone. The author starts this book off with great action. I must say the heroine was very courageous and resourceful. Without giving away too much on the story, she finds herself in a new place with a new identity and multiple cops as friends. But can she trust these men after what she’s been through? I really enjoyed reading the K9 back story. I love dogs and this just made my love for them even stronger. Even though the hero was funny and a bit questionable, I did find myself liking him in spite of his questionable actions. He’s good with his dog/partner and is fiercely protective. If you like action and holycrapwhatelsecouldhappen moments in your books then this is a book for you.

I really enjoyed watching this couple get to know each other, the playful banter was a entertaining to get immersed in. I was glad to see that we were able to continue Theo and Jules' story and how things were going after she rescued her siblings from their stepmom. Katie did a great job in keeping the two stories going without overwhelming the reader. This series continues to get better. I look forward to book 3 and whatever else this author writes.

Katie Ruggle is officially one of my favorite romantic suspense authors.

In this book, we have Hugh and his K9 partner Lexi. Hugh had been shot and almost died on book one and so he has been assign desk duty until he recovers and can assume full duty. Needless to say, he is a cop and a man and can't stay still for a minute.

Enter Grace who is running from bad people after seeing something she shouldn't have. She is scared of ever being found and when there are several attempts to her life and Hugh's she has to tell him the truth about who she is.

The like the dynamic between these two characters. They click and compliment each other rather well. Their banter is fun to read and not over the top or so boring that I'd like to shoot myself.

This story had me at the edge of my sit with all the attempts on this characters lives! It squeezed my heart what happened on Hugh's back porch. I had tears in my eyes when Grace wouldn't give up with Lexi. Ms. Ruggle had me wondering at every turn who the bad guy was and I love that I didn't even have a clue.

I cannot wait for the next book it the series (trilogy?) to come out and hoping it is as good as the first two.

After reading Run to Ground (with awesomely grumpy Theo), I wasn’t sure I was going to like Hugh. He seemed a bit of an a$$ – one of those wisecracking jerks that is a little too much of a guy’s guy. But I severely underestimated Ruggle’s skills! I absolutely loved Hugh from the first page to the last and not once did I have an unkind thought about him. He’s a truly good guy, cares about those around him, and wants to do good in the world. Meeting Kaylee, who is definitely hiding something and who tugs at something in Hugh like no one before, has all of those hero feelings on high alert.

Kaylee is surprisingly engaging as well. At first she seems a little too prissy but she quickly gets over her “city” ways and embraces her new situation. Avoiding (and resisting) Hugh is harder than it should be (because the man is tenacious) but she starts to have trouble remembering why he’s bad news.

Just like with Run to Ground, Ruggle brings a good amount of danger to the second book in the series. All of the elements work together beautiful and give readers a good suspense element to go with their love story. But don’t worry if you missed the first story because she helps you keep up … but I’m pretty sure you should read them both because they are pretty darn good :)

K9 units, hot guys, bad guys, a feisty woman, drama, suspense, romance, what more could a reader want in a romantic suspense book? "On The Chase" has all of this and more. There were really two bad guys in this one, as one was after Hugh, while the other one had Grace in his sights. Grace was a woman on the run, but wow did she have grit and wasn't a woman to give up easily. Hugh, being part of the K9 unit, was not only an injured cop, but just had a little difficulty staying on medical leave much to the dismay of his superiors. It didn't hurt that he was one of the hot guys as well. Hugh was Ying to Grace's Yang. One of the things I loved best about this book was Lexi, Hugh's K9 police dog. Lexi's role is interwoven in every part of this great read. The action is non stop without missing any details in giving the reader a complete picture of both storylines that come together for a complete story of Hugh, Grace, and Lexi getting their HEA. I would like to thank NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for gifting me "On The Chase". My opinion is my own. This is mine. 5 Stars!

On the Chase is the second book in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series by Katie Ruggle. The first book was Run to Ground. While each book can be enjoyed on its own, I think the character information that is carried from one book to the next enhances the read, and that fans of the series will get more out of the experience, but that new comers can enjoy the read too.

The sole witness to a horrific crime, Kaylee Ramay flees to the Colorado Rockies to start a new life. There she becomes Grace, a dog kennel employee desperately trying to avoid attention, especially from dangerously attractive K9 Officer Hugh Murdoch. Because Hugh is tall, dark, and nothing but trouble. Hugh is anxious to get back in the field after an act of heroism left him warming the bench. Until then, he and his K9 partner Lexi spend their hours teasing the town's mysterious newcomer. But when their simmering attraction is nearly cut short by a sniper's bullet, Hugh's mystery woman must come clean about the secrets she keeps, or both of them will pay the price.

On the Chase is a good contemporary romance with the suspense twist. I liked Kaylee's character for the most part, but I occasionally found her to fall a little flat. The start of this show was Hugh, he is a great character with humor and strength. I liked his pragmatism and attempts to save everyone while still sidelined from his last round of being a hero. I found their romance itself to be a little understated, it just kind of happened, but the danger and suspense aspects of the story were constant. I liked that it was coming from all sides, and that there were twists that I did not expect. I enjoyed the read, but have to admit that I was not as emotional involved in the romance of the book as I expected, but will keep on reading to see where the larger story arch takes the small town our endangered characters are taking cover in.

On the Chase is a solid addition to the series, and left me satisfied with the story, but wanting the next installment. While I enjoyed the first book more than this one, I fully expect the next book to be even better and will keep on reading.

Good book. I enjoyed it overall but parts got repetitive and predictable.

Ever since I read Run to the Ground, I was eager to learn more about the secondary characters. Therefore, when I learned the sequel, On the Chase, would be Hugh’s story I was excited. My excitement further increased when the publisher offered me an eArc in exchange for an honest review.

What The Story is About.
Kaylee Palmer is happy and contented with how her life has unfolded. She had a great job, a perfect boyfriend and a comfortable life. Then the unthinkable happened. All it took for her life to come crumbling down was the witnessing of a gruesome scene. Trusting law enforcement was not an option, therefore forcing her to move to Colorado and assuming a new identity. Keeping a low profile would be easy if it were not for the attractive K9 officer Hugh Murdoch.
Hugh Murdoch is on medical leave, after suffering a serious on the job injury. He is itching to get back in the field, but his constant interference in ongoing cases, when he should be resting, is driving his colleagues crazy. When he met Grace, he believed she was hiding something, and he is determined to uncover her mysteries.

My Views.

The Characters.
Hugh is funny, caring, hardworking, determined and charming. Although sometimes he crossed the line with his lock picking skills. It was hard not to like him even though he was annoying at times, to which his friends and Grace could attest. He kept me laughing for most of the story. It would seem he does not take things seriously, but that was far from the truth. He if all round fun-loving person.

Kaylee/Grace is brave, funny, caring. I took a while to warm up to her, but as the story unfolded, she grew on me. I understood her reaction (not that I was in agreement) to the new life she had to assume. After working so hard for her achievements, only to go back to living the life she thought she had escaped.

The Romance
I enjoyed the interaction between Hugh and Grace, which was filled with humour, banter and passion. Their chemistry was undeniable, and I enjoyed watching them trying to work out their feelings for each other.

The Suspense
The story packed full of action and suspense that made for a page turning read. The danger they faced had me holding my breath at page turn.

The Supporting Cast
We received updates on the lives of the characters from the previous installment. Jules siblings are so adorable and the romance between her and Theo is as strong as ever. I enjoyed the bond of friendship, which existed between Hugh, Theo and Otto. They were a great team, and it is evident they cared deeply for each other.

The Story
I had questions regarding the scene Grace/Kaylee witnessed. I was hoping for more information especially as it relates to the victims and their identity. Were they innocent parties or were they criminal elements?

Conclusion/Recommendation
I thought this was a great addition to the series and I am eager to have Otto’s story. If you are a fan of small town romances filled with suspense and non-stop action, then you should try this series.

I think Ruggle has become one of my go-to authors. Not that it took five of her books to get me there, it just took me that long to realize how enjoyable her books were. I love this new series so much. It's sexy, the characters are engaging and uber likable and the suspense is right there on nearly every page. The K-9 unit is just so dynamic. I love the whole group. I liked that the cast from book one was still a huge part of Grace and Hugh's story.

Gracie is trying to out run things her eyes and memories will never let her forget. Her childhood created someone that would never have to nothing ever again, nice clothes, fancy shoes, houses so big people can get lost in them. No she’s on the run, fearing for her life, thrust back into nothingness. Learning to trust a small town cop to keep her safe, she never planned on him taking her heart in the process.

Hugh is still trying to recovery from a bullet wound when he starts hounding Gracie for her life story. Unable to believe her story, Hugh continues to pester until he’s started to fight to keep them both alive. Now trusted with life altering secret, he has to protect the woman he’s fallen in love with.

Gracie and Hugh had me laughing from the start, his ability to hone in on her lies, yet his willingness to accept them. Gracie started out as someone who could have easily been an unlikable character, who is now likable and relatable. Ms. Ruggle made this novel so easy to read, the plot was very well developed with a twist I never saw coming! Her secondary characters captured my heart as well; I adore Sam and all of his siblings. On The Chase is a great read that will hold the readers attention from page one through the last page!

Kaylee finally has the life she has always wanted. A job she loves, an apartment she adores, and a new boyfriend that she believes might be her Prince Charming. That all changes one night when she witnesses the after math of a horrific crime. The only way to survive is to start over in a remote location where no one knows her name. Thoughts of leaving her former life in the past she not be a problem, but a highly inquisitive police officer knows everything out of her mouth is a lie. Will her past return and threaten her new life?

I like this author for fast-paced action, sweet romance between likeable characters – and canine characters too. My Rating 4.25.

Kaylee is attending a socialite dinner with her almost “Disney Prince” boyfriend when a wrong turn has her uncovering a crime situation. She manages to escape the last-minute grab of the dinner host but is afraid to go home. A friend helps her get out of town, hidden in the small town of Monroe, CO, where she is known as Grace and must find any job to make a living.

Hugh has been injured and is supposed to be recovering and staying out of the field. But ‘cop mode’ runs in Hugh’s blood and he has a hard time sitting home, even under orders that he is not allowed on scene or at the station. Hugh is really stressed since the force is trying to catch a drug smuggler who keeps sliding through his small town of Monroe.

Hugh meets Grace and, besides being stunned by her good likes, he is immediately suspicious and tries digging for the truth. Grace tries to avoid Hugh but they are like magnets drawing together. After several near-death events, Grace reveals her past thinking that the dangerous bad guy has found her. Hugh still thinks the attempts are against him, not her, but he isn’t about to let her problem rest either.

I liked Kaylee/Grace and Hugh right away. The beginning is fun and quickly moves into high adrenaline action. The story has some crazy moments and there are character actions that caused the reaction “what are you thinking?”. I like the other officers, including the canine characters. The ending seemed a little rushed and I would’ve liked a little more detail on the bad guy’s activities. Also, there were a few incidents of unnecessary (IMHO) ugly language. Still, all in all, I completely enjoyed the fast-paced story and strong romantic chemistry without overdone sexual aspects.

I am always comfortable picking up a Katie Ruggle title as I am confident I will get a good story that includes danger, action and sweet romance. I may have to go back and read the other stories in this series so I don’t miss anything. I recommend this series to readers who enjoy a good romantic suspense that is full on action and nice romance.

I received this title through NetGalley.
