I am loving this series!

Okay, so I'm not yet finished with book one ( Run to Ground )--but I'm loving it so far, and this one? OMG awesomeness. Hugh is obnoxiously adorable (and no, prior to this I wouldn't have thought that was a "thing" either, but trust me, it is) and Kaylee/Grace is the perfect heroine for him. Really, that quote up there sums it up for both of them--they are great on their own, but together they make each other even better.

Jules, her siblings, Theo, and Otto (plus various animals) all play pretty big roles here, and the last page leaves us with a pretty big teaser for the next book ( Survive the Night --Otto's book; woot!) Can't wait!

Hugh may be on the mend from a bullet to the leg but he is driving his friends and partners nuts! The man cannot still still and he and his K9 partner seem to miraculously turn up at busts and shoot outs! The man is like a human lie detector, so when he meets a "friend" of his partners girl friend, he knows she is not on the up and up. The man won't rest until he knows all of Grace's secrets.

Grace (aka Kaylee) just wanted a couple of dates with Prince Charming, pity he turned into a nightmare! She was in the wrong place but at the right time and she learns just what kind of family her almost boyfriend is from. Now on the run and hiding out with the help of a relocation specialist her friend Penny got her in touch with, she is hiding out and trying to keep below the radar. So why does life keep putting the insufferable, annoying, irritating Hugh in her path!

But when he picks the lock of her home (and the bathroom of the diner!) she realises Hugh is not going anywhere. But when someone starts taking pot shots at her, Hugh is the only one who can keep her safe.

Hugh can push buttons like a ninja! He is cocky and annoying but sweet and sexy too! Grace is no pushover and has a zinger or too in her arsenal. Together they are fireworks and I enjoyed watching them ignite! I'm ever so excited to see that the lovely Otto may just get his HEA soon. That man brings new meaning to the phrase Doomsday Prepper!! Lexi and the kids are cuteness personified and I loved Hugh's 2 sided conversations with his k9 partner.

As a Katie Ruggle fan, I was a bit disappointed in the first book in this series, Run to Ground, so it was with trepidation that I began to read this second title in her Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series, but I'm happy to report that I liked it markedly better than Run to Ground, and it gets 4 stars from this reader.

As the novel opens, we meet the heroine, Kaylee, talking with her friend Penny about clothes, shoes, and Penny's dislike of Kaylee's boyfriend, Noah, as Kaylee is deciding what to wear to dinner with Noah's favorite uncle, Martin, at his ginormous mansion. Kaylee considers Noah to be her Disney Prince, but when she meets Uncle Martin, he interrogates rather than charms her. When she asks Noah for directions to the powder room, she gets lost on the way back and makes a startling discovery in the basement--3 men, tied to chairs, who've all been beaten and tortured. She frees them and tries to flee the mansion, but Martin catches her. Luckily, she has some self-defense skills and manages to escape his clutches, but she knows she has to get out of town, find a new identity and fast, and her friend Penny knows someone who can help, Mr. Espina, another familiar character, and she's soon in Monroe, Colorado, and moving in to the rattletrap house with Jules and her younger siblings, all of whom we met and were charmed by in the first novel in the series--and it's a rude awakening for Kaylee, now using her assumed identity as Grace Robinson, and it's a far cry from the privileged life she led in California.

We met the hero in the previous novel too, Hugh, a police officer who works with Theo, the hero in Run to Ground. Hugh is off duty, recovering from the bullet wound in his leg that he got in the previous novel, and he's not happy about being sidelined. When Theo shows up at Jules' house, he can't help but interrogate Grace, and when Hugh shows up and is mesmerized by Grace's good looks, he doesn't buy her lies about who she is and where she's from for a second, and he and Grace strike sparks off each other from the outset. Although neither character is ready to trust to other, the attraction is certainly mutual, although Hugh is driving Grace crazy with his questions and his offbeat sense of humor, something I truly liked about him, and I also really enjoyed Grace's snarky comebacks, although it was a bit harder to like her, especially because of her initial disgust at her new living situation and the fact that the only job she could find in this tiny town was cleaning out dog kennels, which she finds demeaning.

Once the main characters have all been introduced, this book really takes off. It's filled with both action and danger and it doesn't let up. There are kidnapping attempts, bad buys disguised as good guys, exploding trucks, snipers shooting at Grace, or are they shooting at Hugh? There's definitely more going on than we're led to believe at the outset. There's suspense and danger around every corner, quite a few edge-of-your-seat scenes and a slowly building romance between Grace and Hugh and it all works, although I do wish that we didn't have to wait quite so long for these two to act on their mutual attraction. We also get to spend more time with Jules and her adorable younger siblings, and of course, there's Hugh's K9 companion, Lizzie, who's both on the job and yet perfect for some comic relief.

How will it all pan out? Will the bad guys get caught? Will the relationship between Hugh and Grace work? Will Grace stay or return to California? You'll have to read this thoroughly enjoyable, action-packed, romantic suspense novel to find out, and I think you'll enjoy it as much as I did. Be prepared, because as Ms. Ruggle did at the end of Run to Ground, she'll give you just a hint as to what's going to happen in her next addition to the series. Personally, I can't wait to read it.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

I really liked this book. I'm honestly enjoying everything Katie Ruggle has been writing lately. Her characters are great and well thought out. The same with the plot.

I don't usually like where the plot for a book continues threw several books with different couples but Katie's is really working for me.

Can't wait to see what else is in store for this series.

This was great! I adore Hugh and his goofy comebacks. He and Grace were a good match. Lexi was super. I really want Hughs house! I am looking forward to hopefully Otto's story next. He seems like he has some layers.

While the suspense portion was predictable and a bit unrealistic, the romance was a cute, sweet read. Would recommend. 3.5/5 stars

This was my first book in this series, but not my first book by this author. I enjoyed the cold isolated Colorado setting. The canine unit guys were an extremely tight knit group with very different personalities. Hugh is definitely the mischievous jokester of the bunch. He is always doing something he is not supposed to and rarely takes anything seriously, at least not until Grace. Grace brings out the best and the worst in Hugh. He can't help but rile her up because he gets such a kick out of their back-and-forth banter. Grace is completely out of her element, but Hugh makes things better, even if he also drives her crazy.

Between the two of them, there is definitely a lot of danger to go around. Each one believes it to be their fault , but in all actuality they are both targets. The book was pretty suspenseful and had some nice action moments throughout. My favorite part, however, was the funny conversations. I like all of the secondary characters as well, and will be putting book 3 on my WishList.

I received an ARC from Net Galley for honest review.

This is a great second book in this series. I do suggest reading the previous book as there are several characters that show up again from that story and I reference things from book one in this review.

Kaylee finds herself in such a mess. She has to drop everything and run. Her good friend Penny gives her the name of a mystery man who will help her disappear. Kaylee becomes Grace and lives a life that she didn't know she wanted.

Hugh is hurting – physically, he is injured from helping save Jules and her kids. What he's not looking for is someone to fall in love with. He's all about the job. However, now that he sees Theo with Jules, he begins to think that he wants that too. Lexi, his companion for years, is someone he trusts with his life.

When Hugh and Grace meet, it is hate at first sight and hate even more when Hugh opens his mouth. Grace isn't looking to meet anyone and definitely doesn't want to stay in this hidden life. However, the more she's targeted and the more that Hugh saves her, feelings can't help but develop.

I did think that Kaylee/Grace did give her story fairly quickly in the story, which was kind of sad. However, the back and forth banter between Grace and Hugh was hilarious and playful. I really enjoyed this story and can't wait for what comes next.

This book is funny, emotional, and just dangerous enough.

I found this second story in this series to be funny, suspenseful, and the banter between Hugh and Grace/Kaylee made me laugh many times.

Kaylee was living the life – she had her dream job, a nice condo, and living in LA. One night while having dinner with her boyfriend at his uncle's house, she takes a wrong turn and witnesses something that puts her life in danger. Now she is on the run and ends up in Monroe, Colorado. The place where everyone that needs to hide seems to end up.

Hugh Murdoch is a K9 officer with the Monroe Police Department, along with his K9, Lexi, they are on medical leave because Hugh got shot. But he can't stay away from the job and heal. He is ready to go back to work and when he meets Grace, he wants to learn what he can from her because he can tell she is lying. So he will do a background check to find out who she really is.

But there is someone after one of them, is it Hugh or Grace? So Grace has to tell Hugh who she really is and he vows to keep her safe. But who will keep him safe? Will they find out who is after them? Will Hugh and Grace give in to the feeling they have for each other? What happens when they solve the case, will Grace go back to LA?

I am enjoying this series and can't wait for the next one. Katie Ruggle has a way to bring out these K9 officers and their partners that makes the stories great. I hope you give this series a shot and enjoy it as much as I have.

On the Chase is the second book in Katie Ruggle’s Rocky Mountain K9 Unit Series. It picks up right where the first book, Run to Ground leaves off. It can technically be read as a standalone but I think that you would feel more connected to the main characters and the town if you read the series from the beginning.

As with the first book, the heroine has escaped to the Colorado Rockies to avoid being killed. Kaylee Ramay leaves her perfect life behind as well as her name. She becomes Grace Robinson and moves in with Jules, the heroine from Run to Ground. Grace also can’t seem to stay away from the inquisitive eye of K9 Officer Hugh Murdoch and his dog Lexie. From the moment they meet, Grace and Hugh take shots at each other like kids on a playground. That banter eventually turns into a burning desire for each other. The problem is that someone keeps trying to kill Hugh, and Grace thinks it’s because of her. Hugh isn’t the type to back down from a fight although he is currently on medical leave due to a gunshot wound to his leg. Of course, he and Grace will get into several life-threatening situations before it’s all over.

Hugh and Grace are perfect for each other in the strangest way. They get under each other’s skin. Hugh doesn’t hesitate to risk his life for Grace and she is overwhelmed by that considering the short time that they have known each other. In addition, it’s heartwarming how the other members of the K9 Unit band together to help. Grace easily finds an instant family and feelings that she didn’t expect to have. Their attraction is intense and so is a lot of the action. I truly enjoyed On the Chase. It was better than the first. I am looking forward to the third book, Survive the Night. I just hope that Katie Ruggle can top herself again.

After adoring Run to Ground, the first in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit, I was prepared to settle back and enjoy this second book in the series. Katie Ruggle’s books delight me, what more can I say?
Review

So yes, On the Chase is book two. I would say that it would be okay as a standalone in a pinch since it tackles a new couple and main plot, but, truly it works best following its predecessor where most of the cast and some ongoing situational things were introduced.

I was eager to get back to the little quirky mountain town of Monroe, Colorado, and after briefly introducing the heroine, Kaylee’s sticky situation in LA which brings her to town, I was right back where I wanted to be.

I must confess that On the Chase and I got off to a rocky start. It took me a bit to warm up to Kaylee. I didn’t hate her, but I did have the urge to tap her for her early squeamish moments because, oh poor thing, she’s rusticating in the sticks and has to live in an old house and do a blue collar job. I sympathized with the fact that she lost everything (voluntarily, I might add) from her recent past life when she had to go on the run after witnessing a crime. She’d achieved the pinnacle of her dreams with a snazzy university PR job, a walk-in closet full of designer labels, a designer car, and a designer prince charming man. But come on, she came from a small town and lived in a basement apartment, it shouldn’t have been the culture shock she was whining in her mind about.

So yes, the early encounters and I were a struggle and oh man was Hugh, the hero, over the top with his suspicions and investigations when she hadn’t done anything, but lied about her past. Lots of legit reasons why people do this plus Jules, previous heroine, was vouching for her.

As can be surmised, it was a zany set up and early story. I settled in once the romance and the exciting suspense situations picked up. And really, this pair of lovers grew on me so that I was smiling at each encounter. They were both quick with the wit and comebacks. The playfulness and sweet moments were adorable though when the heat turned up, that was good with me, too. They were taking their time with the romance because of all the crazy danger around them, but also because both were convinced there was an expiration date on Kaylee’s time in town.

And, incidentally, I just melted when Hugh and his work dog, Lexi, were on the job. Okay, and moments with Jules’ younger brothers and sisters getting page time once again were great. Dare I hope that Otto gets his story next?

Anyway, this was another good read in the series and I am ready for more with the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit to see who the mysterious helper of ladies in distress will send their way next. Those who enjoy small town romance blended with exciting light suspense should give this series a try.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I adore this author and really enjoyed her Search and Rescue series.

So, I was super happy that she was starting a new series, and after really enjoying book 1, I was excited to start this one.

For one thing, I am glad we are getting a continuation from the couple in book 1 (Jules and Theo), and the family as a whole, who I really loved.

The start of this was a little creepy and graphic, and once the heroine got to Colorado, I did struggle to warm to her a bit. She seemed a bit too judgemental about her new surroundings and seemed to be more concerned with missing her old wardrobe of fabulous dresses than being on the run and hiding for her life.

But I soon warmed up to her once we got to the build up of the relationship between Grace and Hugh. The back and forth flirty banter made the book tbh. I loved it. And Hugh in all his stalker annoying glory was a great hero.

It is a great romantic suspense, with a good dash of humour in and I cannot wait to continue the series and see these couples stories continue.

I liked this book. It wasn't perfect but it was definitely entertaining. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Run to Ground, when I read it a few months ago so I was pretty excited to read Hugh's story. It was a pretty fast read for me since I had a rather hard time actually setting the book aside.

The book opens with Kaylee in her old life. She witnesses a horrifying crime and becomes a target herself. In order to stay safe, she changes her identity and starts all over. Kaylee, or Grace as she is now called, moves in with Jules and her four siblings. I was really happy to see all of the wonderful characters from the first book of the series having such an important role in this book. Grace is slow to adjust to her new life because she is living in constant fear.

Hugh is on leave as he recovers from a bullet wound and he is driving everyone crazy. He keeps showing up and getting involved in things when he is supposed to be resting. He thinks that Grace is being completely honest from the first moment he meets her. He becomes determined to find out what her real story is.

So like I said earlier this book wasn't perfect. Hugh crossed a few lines that kind of bothered me. It was like the man had no boundaries. A locked door....no problem, because he would find a way to get in anyway. This kind of behavior seemed to happen quite a bit at the beginning of the book but did lessen as the story progressed. I think that Grace let him off a little too easy a couple of times in the book.

I did like Grace and Hugh together. Grace is honest with Hugh about her past as soon as it becomes a safety issue and then they really do start to become a team. There were some pretty exciting scenes in the book that really had my pulse pounding. They did have great chemistry with each other and I really enjoyed their banter.

I would recommend this book to others. I enjoyed this action packed romance with wonderful chemistry between the characters. I am looking forward to reading more in the great series from Katie Ruggle very soon.

I received an advance reader edition of this book from Sourcebooks Casablanca via NetGalley.

Katie Ruggle has gives us some really interesting characters and she knows how to write suspense which keeps us guessing.

Kaylee thought she met a real live Disney Prince until a dinner party at his uncle’s mansion turned out to be less of a palace and more of a house of horrors. Now Kaylee is on the run and hiding in the small town of Monroe, Colorado under the name of Grace Robinson.

She worked hard to earn her degrees and buy her pretty little condo. Now she is living in a rundown house with five other people, and one bathroom, and she should count herself lucky to have found a job at the local kennel. But at least she is still alive to be cranky about how her life has turned out. Now her biggest problem is the local cop who is certain that Grace is not her real name and he is determined to figure out the puzzle calling herself Grace Robinson. After the last cop she turned to, planned to kill her to shut her up, Grace isn’t rushing to confide in this local police officer, no matter how hot or funny he is.

Hugh is still on medical leave after being shot in the leg and his Captain won’t even let him come into the Station. So when beautiful Grace Robinson shows up in town looking a bit jumping and leaving no question that she is hiding from someone or something, Hugh has nothing but free time to spend with her…delve into his own investigation into the matter.

When they both are shot at, neither is certain who was the target but leaving Grace unprotected isn’t something Hugh is going to do. But is he putting her in danger?

I have enjoyed all the stories so far by Katie Ruggle. I am still waiting to see what happens with Theo and Jules once he finds out why she is in hiding, but hopefully we will get that answer by the end of the series. Unless Jules, Grace folds like a cheap Ikea table once she and Hugh are shot at. She tells him everything, her real name, who she is hiding from, etc.

This one has a few far fetched aspects but was still so enjoyable, we will give her a pass on them and just enjoy the story and series as a whole.

These books, as well as her Search & Rescue series, are definitely worth reading.

This was my first book by this author, the cover and blurb caught my attention.
Kaylee witnesses a crime and is on the run. Can she start her life over and stay safe?
This was an action packed, entertaining drama with a romance imminent. Their chemistry sizzled and their banter mostly funny..sometimes irritating and whiney.
There were two plots here that became connected and I was hoping of course the good guys would win.
An entertaining, fun read.

On The Chase is the second title in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series, although I believe it can be read as a standalone. I haven't read the previous title, but didn't feel lost reading this title. On The Chase is full of suspense, intrigue, action, drama and adventure. Although it's a slow burn romance, the pace of the story line is quite fast.

Hugh and Grace aka Kaylee are both intriguing and for the most part charismatic characters. I really liked Hugh's character, he's quite charming, and a joker with some interesting skills for a officer of the law to hold.

Whilst Grace is witty and strong, she also could be a tad annoying at times when she was bemoaning her situation and it felt a bit whingey.

I adored the fun and flirty banter between Hugh and Grace with his one liners, and her snarky, sassy comebacks. Hugh's distrust of Grace and her reticence to reveal much about herself leads to some interesting situations. Hugh's boredom whilst on medical leave, provides the perfect opportunity for him to basically stalk Grace, with action, adventure and humor filled results.

Overall On The Chase is a lovely story of friendship with equal parts heart and humor. Although it's low on heat, this title had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion and I was quite captivated by the story line and found it really entertaining.

Once again Katie Ruggle bring a thrilling romantic suspense to life in On The Chase! I am so passionate about these kind of stories and Miss Ruggle knows how to keep me coming back for more. On The Chase was sizzling with HOT, SEXY romance and heart pounding, adrenaline rushing suspense and on the edge of your seat action! I loved the feeling of being on my toes and these characters sure were wonderful. The story is heart pounding good. A MUST read!

Oh my goodness, I really really loved this book! First thing I did when I had finished it, was to go online and look for the other books by the author and of course, the first book in this amazing series.

Fast-paced, witty, with a great story line and really amazing characters, this book drew me in from the first page on and I didn't put it down until the end. Since I've read it that first time, I've read the first book and I've reread this book, I have listened to the audio book of the first one and then I was waiting rather impatiently for the audio book of "On the Chase".

Hugh and Grace are a wonderful couple with lots of chemistry and sparks and I was either turning the pages faster and faster because I just needed to know what would happen next or I was laughing out loud because of something Hugh said or did.
And seriously? I just love all those other characters, Jules Jackson and her siblings, Theo Bosco, Otto - they are vivid, very much alive and lovable and, oh, don't forget about Lexi and Viggy, I think, I fell in love with those two as well.

Right now I can't wait till the next book in this series releases - soooo.....just in case, I haven't mentioned it before, I really loved reading this book and I can definitely recommend "On the Chase" as well as the first book "Run to Ground". Both books are part of the series but they can easily be read as standalones, well, apart from the fact that they are highly addictive, of course.

I really like Katie Ruggle's romantic suspense. Lots of romance, suspense and laughter in this one. This is the second in a series about k9 police officers. Looking forward to the next in the series.

This pains me to say because I am and will forever be a faithful loyal fan girl of Katie Ruggle but this book just wasn’t for me. In the second Rocky Mountain K9 Unit book, On The Chase, we get to meet Kaylee our heroine who accidentally stumbles upon a crime and has to flee Colorado. Hugh is our fun loving, sneaky, always getting into trouble officer who falls into her path when she comes to stay with his partners girlfriend. Now I will say that towards the end of this book I started to love it a lot more but the beginning just had to many things that made me want to put it down. For one Kaylee comes off extremely selfish and stuck up. I know she fought to improve her life and have nice things but the way she is constantly talking things down in her head such as how horrible Jules house was or freaking out about buying things at a thrift store just got to be way too much for me and it made it very hard for me to feel bad for her. Hugh, while I do love this playful side, his constant putting himself in people’s business (including breaking into Jules house WTF) was something that as a female I would have legit blown up on him and put him in his place. He has no understanding of boundaries and while I do love my stalker crazy boys in most books this was once where I felt like it was to a level that would have been a deal breaker for most women.

As for the storyline, some things just seemed forced. It took over half the book before I felt like we got a real genuine interaction before our two characters (besides almost getting killed) and a lot of the just seemed like filler words that could have been cut in half to make the story 10 times better. However, like I said I really did end up enjoying these two characters by the end. We finally got to see all the things in both characters that I wished I had seen from the very beginning to make this book at the same level of amazingness that I usually see from Katie.
