The intricate plot weaves together elements of suspense, mystery, and the supernatural, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. The characters are complex and well-developed, their motivations and relationships adding depth to the narrative. The atmospheric writing creates a sense of foreboding and intrigue, drawing readers deeper into the story. If you're a fan of dark fantasy and suspenseful storytelling,

I know this is fantasy, but it was just too unbelievable for me in places.
Supernaturals who are unable to protect a human.
Ridiculous.
Could have been so much better.

This wasn't one of my favorites. It didn't really grab my attention and I slogged through it.

I really enjoyed this book. It took me so long to get around to reading it because I had to go and read the Sensor series first before any of this made any sense to me. Really good storyline and characters here. Thanks very much.

I like the story but it took me a couple of chapters to get my head wrapped around the authors world. I have not read the original series this is a spinoff of. Both the main character have past that they are having trouble getting past. I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

I should start with the fact that I have not read any of the original series, of which this world is based upon. That being said, I don’t think it hindered by enjoyment of this book. The world was rich with characters who had unique stories and you could tell that there was a history there. It was nice to get thrown right in and meet the awesomeness that is Cori.

Cori is the best. No, really, she is an absolutely wonderful main character. She’s tough, independent, and has been through an awful lot. It would take a serious strength of character to survive as a regular old human surrounded by massively powerful paranormals. To further prove her strength, she is also determined to pull a reclusive half-angel out of his shell. Bartol was tortured for way too long and now he’s got some pretty big issues with relationships of any kind. He’s built some literal and metaphorical walls around himself to ensure he doesn’t hurt others or get hurt again himself. The only person who seems to ignore them is Cori. She’s using all her considerable talent to try to lure him out.

These two are just… awesome. Sure, Bartol is gruff and stubborn, but I think that’s exactly what Cori needed. He’s the challenge that she’s sure she can rise to and he’s slowly warming to having her in his life. Of course, something forces the issue to the surface when Cori’s supposedly dead ex-husband shows up threatening her life. Who would’ve thought that the good guys in this story had such dark and disastrous pasts? It was kind of refreshing to see some damaged “heroes.” Fair warning, this book does not end with things all neatly tied up. This is clearly meant to be the start of a series that joins this story with the next. I didn’t find it jarring or annoying, just something that was a little unexpected in this world of paranormal romance.

I couldn’t stop reading this book!
I liked this, a lot; the back story & information about the world and characters is explained as and when it's needed. There is a good mix of action, tension, horror, humour and passion within the tale and our two main characters are both stubborn but have strength of character that I love plus both have traumatic pasts they're running/hiding from and trying to deal with.

Due to some of the topics and scenes in this story, I would say that this is an ‘adults only’ book but if you’re a fan of strong, independent, kickass characters, a story with Hitchcock-esque tension and true to life relationship drama then I suggest this book may be for you!

This is the first book I have read by this author, and sadly, I probably won't read any others. I just didn't enjoy this book at all. The heroine was awful. While I feel for her, and her past is awful, it doesn't excuse her current behavior. She is pushy, selfish, and TSTL. By the end I was done with her, and would have happily seen her meet her demise. And the book was sooooo long. There was so much content that added nothing to either the storyline or character development. I ended up skimming a bunch, because reading about grocery store trips and house cleaning isn't why I read, I read to escape them! Not a winner for me.
