This is a really good story which held my interest until the end. AJ and Shea are getting married. Two weeks before the wedding the body of one of the bridesmaids is found murdered in AJ's apartment. He is the suspect and cannot be found. The story is told by Lily who is AJ's mother and Dru who is Shea's mother. Lily believes her son innocent and Dru believes him guilty. Both women will do anything to protect their children! When another bridesmaid is found murdered, the hunt for AJ becomes more intense! Read on!

Very interesting domestic suspense novel! Fantastic read. Grips your from the first page and doesn't let you go until long after you've reached the end. 4.5/5 stars

I Give this book a Four out of Five Stars.

Thank you to Ashley and Amazon Publishing for sending me an E-Book of "The Truth We Bury" for free, in exchange of an honest review.

I liked this book, a lot. Having a lot of experience dealing with loved ones suffering from PTSD after being deployed to war zones, So I totally understood the character of AJ, and related to Shea, as the woman who loves him. For that reason alone, I loved this book. I felt like the writing was very smooth and fluid, and I breezed through this book. I also liked that there was a lot of back stories to the characters, and they were spaced well through the book. I liked learning the history of each character as I made my way through the book.

I did predict the who, but did not predict the why, and that was really great, as it still left something for me to figure out, And  to enjoy getting to the big reveal. I was left asking myself, what could truly make a person snap, is there a certain insanity already lingering in a person that's triggered, before they commit an unthinkable crime? What do you guys think?

I think I am going to read " Fault Lines" next as there was a mention to the story of that book, in this one, and it has my interest piqued.

The Truth We Bury - a great murder mystery with multi layered characters that keep you on your toes.

This novel is focused on Lily Isley and her family. Lily is a wealthy woman with her own secrets she's keeping, but when the bridesmaid of her future daughter in law is found murdered in her son AJ's apartment and AJ being the prime suspect is nowhere to be found - Lily must keep faith, find her son and proclaim his innocence.

It's less of a thriller type book as it's advertised and more a 'whodunnit' murder mystery.

Recommend reading if you like a good twisty mystery novel.

The truth we bury is a great read - a murder mystery which builds tension right from the start but manages to be about much more than 'whodunnit'.

The writing is tightly controlled and tells the story from the perspectives of two very different mothers, which I really enjoyed. I guessed the identity of the murderer early on, which is always satisfying, but there were enough twists and turns that I wasn't really sure until the final few chapters.

As a note, an e-galley of this novel was sent to me via NetGalley by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not effect my opinions in any way.

Although it has its rough patches and a lack of unpredictable revelations, The Truth We Bury was a very compelling and thought provoking read that kept me glued to its pages. Certainly not my favourite or least favourite book of the year, Barbara Taylor Sissel crafts a twisty tale of questions and mystery. Most important to note is the way that it tackles PTSD and the emotional tugs it provides reader from start to finish. I find that the realistic approach it took towards a lot of mental health and the complexities of human emotion was refreshing and, at the end of the day, the biggest plus about the novel itself.

Told in two points of view, we really get to know the characters on a highly intimate level and to see the contrast of each of them as well as the past and what we imagine the future might hold. Full of secrets, mystery and intrigue--The Truth We Bury tackles more than just one plotline and genre, tangling up the reader and the story until many will lose track of their own reality. To me, that's what reading is all about.

I loved the element of truth and consequence and the question of what would you do if your child stood accused of a horrendous crime. Especially when that child is on the run. Where does the innocence lie? Where does it not? Does it exist? What happens next?

Much like earlier this year with Sibel Hodge's novel Beneath the Surface, readers will be left turning the pages with questions of their own and a different insight/view of the mystery than the characters featured in the thickest of plots. A fun, quick and chilling read that will fast become a favourite amongst many.

3 1/2 Stars
An enjoyable read, but I must say I liked Sissel's previous novels more. The mystery was a bit on the lighter side and it was quite easy to guess the killer early on. There were still some questions as to the why that kept my interest throughout. Sissel does have a knack for writing the family drama and I'm looking forward to her next one.

I received a copy of this book courtesy of NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this domestic drama/mystery. It was very creative and kept me guessing until the end. There were a lot of characters to keep track of. However, the author did a good job introducing them and developing them. I did not have trouble following the story line of keeping track of the characters. Great beach read.

This book is domestic suspense at its best! This book grabs you from the first page and never lets you go. It is a terrific murder mystery that will keep you guessing till the end and then, bam, shockwaves! This is also a book about love, trust, betrayal and forgiveness. It deals, also, with the affects of PTSD. How it affects the person who has it and also those around him. This book is so well written and the flow is simply incredible. The characters are true to life and I knew them all on such a personal level. They come alive and jump right into your life. I felt their love, their pain, their anxiety and their hope. This book kept me enthralled throughout. The plot is one that could truly happen and I loved that it keeps you guessing. It is vividly descriptive. You are at the ranch in Wyatt. You are in Dallas. This is a must read for suspense fans! Here are a few quotes that touched me. " They need to know we grow up; we don't grow perfect, and no matter how old we get, we never lose our need, or our capacity, for compassion and forgiveness." " I want to believe that given time, all wounds have the capacity to heal, if we are patient and kind to one another, if we forgive one another and tell the truth, if we keep love in our hearts."

I would give this 3.75 stars

This was a really enjoyable mystery.

I thought the dual points of view was well done. I had no troubles in distinguishing between the different points of view at any point.

It was definitely a quick fast paced read but I didn't find the mystery particularly surprising and I definitely think the outcome could have been more of a slow unraveling as the story went on.

My favourite part of this story was definitely the commentary on PTSD. I loved that the author really spoke to how PTSD can affect not only the sufferer but the loved ones of the afflicted person. I also loved that the author touched on different things that may cause PTSD, i.e. having been attacked rather than this purely being something that happens to someone as a result of war.

Would definitely recommend picking up this mystery.

First time reading this author for me and thoroughly enjoyed this one. Engaging story of domestic violence and family secrets. Great writing and loved the characters as well. I know that I would do anything to protect my children even if they did something wrong so I can totally believe the sentiment of both mothers here. Great family drama with enough suspense to keep me glued to the pages to the very end which was unexpected but fit extremely well with the entire story. I know I will be thinking about this one for a long time coming. This book would make a GREAT movie and a great book club read as well!!! Thanks so much NetGalley for the ARC!!!

As a mother myself, the premise for this domestic suspense grabbed my attention and I am thankful to Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for providing me with the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

The Truth we Bury is told from the points of view of two mothers, Lily and Dru, whose children AJ (a decorated marine) and Shea are about to get married.

When Shea's maid of honour is found dead in AJ's apartment and AJ is nowhere to be found, he quickly becomes the lead suspect for the murder.

The reader comes along for the emotional and heartbreaking ride as we experience Lily and Dru's reactions, of their anguish as each mother strives to do what they must in order to protect their child, with their own difficult past influencing their behaviour and choices.

Our attention is drawn to the topic of PTSD, shining a light on those having to deal with the horrors of war, how it affects them and those closest to them.

Although slow paced at times and somewhat predictable, this sometimes heavy and emotional tale was nicely balanced out with a hopeful and uplifting note too, that will stay with you after the final page has been turned.

A tale of a mother's angst and guilt, family secrets and lies, this was a great introduction to this author for me and I will be looking out for more of her books.

Thank you to netgalley for a copy of THE TRUTH WE BURY in exchange for my honest review.

I will start by saying this book was a page turner. I wanted to see if my suspicions were correct, and, while I did not have all the details, I was able to peg the guilty person very early on. Then, I kept reading because I wanted to know why. The last ten percent of the book seemed like fluff to me. I still rated this a 4 star because I did finish it, and it mostly held my attention. However, it was not so twisted that I was shocked at the ending, and the last section would have been better if there was a shorter summary of how their lives went on after all the drama.

well done murder mystery that combines family secrets with topical issues in a good setting in small town Texas. Sissel has created a determined and strong mom in Lily and the same in Dru. Did AJ's PTSD lead to the death of a bridesmaid in his planned wedding to Shea? Did someone else do it? Some of the plot line is predictable but there were enough twists and the characters well drawn enough to keep me reading. Thanks to net galley for the arc. This is a good travel book.

This murder mystery explores what parents will do to protect their children. The story is narrated by the two mother's, Lily and Dru, whose children are engaged. Both children have experienced trauma, PTSD and childhood abuse are two topics explored. Sissel has a really beautiful writing style. I admire the way she weaves this story and battles tough topics with grace but still head on.

With all this said, it just didn't do it for me. I really have no idea why, maybe the characters fell a little flat for me. Maybe I didn't relate enough, I have no clue. I do think people will really like this book and may consider picking it back up at a different time in my life to see if it resonates more.

I thoroughly enjoyed this domestic thruller, told thru 2 mothers who would do anything to protect their children. A lot of secrets are involved in this book, heartbreakingly so. The author delved into PTSD and its horrors briefly. Highly recommend. Looking forward to reading Faultlines!

The Truth we Bury was a great page turner. I was kept at the edge of my seat waiting to find out the truth. I will definitely be recommending this book to my friends.

The Truth We Bury is mystery, but so much more. It's about family, love, and protecting those loved ones from your mistakes. What would you do to protect your family? Are lies acceptable if it's for the right reason?
The book contains several entertwined stories of relatable, complex characters. A father, a daughter, a grandson........all hiding their "truth" to protect the ones they love.
All of them hiding behind their lies. As the story transpires, a mystery ensues and their lies are exposed, layer by layer. There are several shocking twists.
This was a very enjoyable book that was quite thought provoking. It stays with you,, making you wonder what you would do.
