This is a promising continuation of the Klaw series.

In the previous cycle Angel learned that he is a Dizhi. He carries the totem of the tiger within himself, allowing him to shapeshift into a were-tiger of sorts and accomplish all sorts of impressive feats. He also learned that his father is the head of the mafia in Chicago, and that there are at least 11 other Dizhi around at war with one another. This volume picks up seven years after the last one ended with Angel in China with Lisa hunting down the Rabbit Dizhi.

This Cycle appealed to me more than the first one. The problems with the somewhat unconvincing romance subplot in the last cycle were eliminated in this one. Instead, we have Angel learning to deal with the fact that he has absorbed so many other totems and is feeling the urge to do so with more... We learn about the forgotten totems, and a bit more about how everything works. We also learn that there is a new threat rearing its ugly head, now that the FBI paranormal division has more or less been dealt with.

The artwork remains dynamic and great. The characters are entertaining. It's a fun series, and I'm curious to see how it all wraps up.

I tried to finish reading this book months ago, but I couldn't.

The first volume was so complex! I thought for sure it couldn't get any more confusing or expanded in its mythology. Nope, totally wrong. You definitely can't pick this up not having read the first one but another truly high quality story and illustrations. (4 stars)

Angel Tomassini and his girlfriend fled from the USA to China. There he gained some insight into the Dhizhi powers, but lost his girlfriend. So he moved to Paris, opened an ad agency and proceeded to try and remake himself. But after attracting the attention of a certain French police inspector, he is lead into a trap at his father's funeral. The question for the next volume is who are all these villains and will Angel ever get his head on straight?

Just as engaging and exciting as the first volume. While the story jumps around a bit, the artwork really holds it together and makes you want to turn the page even if you are a little confused.

A little more focused than the first volume. Ange is in hiding as he tries to deal with his Dhizhi. He figures out how to maintain a balance and then leaves behind his supporting cast and moves to Paris. Two years pass with Ange hiding his Dhinzi nature. We find out there is a second group of 12 zodiac. The art's good, the story similar of Stan Lee's Zodiac Legacy but more exciting.

Book two picks up shortly after where the first one left off. It delves more into the mythology of the Dhizi and Angel's struggle with his powers. There are some solid ideas in this book, but they never came together in a way that satisfied me. I like the mystical animal powers and the anime-esque art. The coloring is well done too.

The story is haphazard. There are times where it is following a plotline and a new one gets shoehorned in when the first one is done. It didn't have a logical progression aside from jumping ahead in time. And I didn't care much for the protagonist. Some of the issues he had to deal with, like problems with his girlfriend, should have made him relatable. However, there wasn't enough depth to the characters. It's as if they were secondary to the mythology behind the story.

For those not taken by Stan Lee's Zodiac, this does exactly the same thing, but not in truth much better. Yes, it’s a large-format, coloured graphic, and yes it does things with the narrative Stan Lee couldn't, but it's still not that great. Yes, I could spend lots more time with Lisa the girlfriend, but Ange the (stupidly-named) hero isn't much cop, the baddies are dreadful, and the way the story gives us the mythology is more than a bit lumpen and clunky at times. Oh and Dizhi Warriors sounds like a crap grime troop…

Volume two continues the action packed story of Angel Tomassini, a young person with a mystical heritage and powers that allow him to change into different animals. He has travelled to China seeking someone who can tell him more about his powers but instead of finding answers he finds trouble. His powers are crippling him and making him dangerous and aggressive. The relationship between him and his girlfriend is strained and he feels he is a danger to her and he is forced to grapple with his powers on his own.

As he eventually learns who to trust he also learns how to sacrifice.

This is a great continuation of book 1. We see Angel grappling with his powers and trying to understand who his enemies are. Once again there are twists and turns in the story with chararcters and plots and sub plots.

Great follow up.
