I'm a huge fan of this author ! This book does not disappoint . FBI agent Mercy Kilpatrick is back in the town of Eagle's Nest , Oregon . She was raised there and comes from a family of preppers . Mercy is in a relationship with Police Chief Truman Daly . They are up to their neck with survivalists , arson fires , and murder . Love Mercy's tough character but yet she has a soft side too . Great story line and plot with shocking ending . I recommend reading book one to better understand the characters but can be read as a standalone . ARC provided by publisher and Goodreads !

. Thank you !!

A Merciful Truth is the second installment in the Mercy Kilpatrick series. I am a huge fan of Kendra Elliot. I've read everything she has written and loved each and every one of them. However, I must admit that I didn't find this book to be one of my favorites. The story was good but a bit hard for my liking. I'm sure I'm getting softer in my reading preferences and it can be a very fine line between great and not so good. I am looking forward to the next in the series to see what Mercy will be getting up to.

Thanks to NetGalley, Montlake Romance and the author for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is the second Mercy Kilpatrick novel. Mercy has transferred to an FBI office nearer the town where she was raised
despite being estranged from most of her prepper family. She is building her relationship with Police Chief Truman Daly. Mercy is going very slowly. She is way too used to be alone to make it easy to let someone else into her life. She is also the guardian for her teenage niece Kaylie since it was her brother's dying wish that she finish raising his daughter. That is quite an adjustment for both of them.

The crimes in this story begin with arson that is escalating in the amount of damage done which turns into murder when two deputies investigating the latest fire are shot and killed. When it was just arson, it was Truman's case. Murder makes it Mercy's.

Their joint investigation leads them to Tom McDonald who is building his own little army and has declared his land independent of the United States. Unfortunately, Mercy's estranged brother Owen is buying what Tom McDonald is selling which makes it really hard for Mercy.

This was an exciting story with danger and a nicely building romance. I liked both Truman and Mercy and was rooting for them to work out their differences.

Oh my gosh! This book was even more intense than the first in this series. The suspense climbed and left you holding your breath. I love that Mercy is showing a more vulnerable side, and yet still tough as steel. What a fantastic series this is turning into. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

4.5*

A MERCIFUL TRUTH picks up two months after where A MERCIFUL DEATH left off, and whilst it can be read as a standalone, the Mercy Kilpatrick series is best enjoyed in order since much of kickass heroine Special Agent Mercy Kilpatrick and swoon-worthy hero police chief Truman Daly’s characters, motivations, and relationship--as well as the heartbeat of the tight-knit community of Eagle’s Nest-- are kickstarted in A MERCIFUL DEATH. Mercy is back amongst her fellow Central Oregonians, having transferred to the Bend FBI office from her previous posting in Portland and settling into a new life that involves a budding relationship with Truman that terrifies her and unexpectedly raising a teenager, when a series of arson fires and the murder of two sheriff’s deputies draw her and Truman into a powderkeg of danger, deception, and antigovernment sentiment. A MERCIFUL TRUTH delivers more of what I loved in A MERCIFUL DEATH and have come to expect from Ms. Elliot’s work: a fast-paced thriller that will keep you turning the pages, a twist (or two) you’ll never see coming, a kickass heroine with vulnerabilities she’s learning to overcome, a strong and steady hero with his own vulnerabilities, and the gripping emotional tension of fraught familial relationships… all wrapped in an impressively well-written package. Ms. Elliot delivers every time. Can’t wait for more Mercy and Truman in the next instalment in the series!

A much improved 2nd book in the Mercy Kilpatrick series by an Author I love .

Eagle's Nest has experienced a number of small fires over the past few weeks ........
Sheriff Trueman Daly has been called to the latest fire along with two Deputies - suddenly shots ring out - the Deputies lie dead , an explosion blows Trueman off his feet .
This escalation brings in the FBI .. Agent Mercy Kilpatrick , Truman's new lover , who has a difficult past with her family , who reside in the Town .
Together they investigate the murders and the fires ......is it the same people responsible for both events or are they looking for more than one perpetrator ??
The anti-government militia , anti-law enforcement groups in the area provide fertile ground for the the twist and turns the action takes .
Mercy and Trueman's slow romance kicks into a higher gear , with Mercy forced to admit her fears .

This book was a great improvement on the first in the series - in which I found Mercy an unsympathetic character . The development of Mercy and Trueman's relationship and the gradual improvement of Mercy's relationship with her estranged 'prepper' family makes this am much more enjoyable book .
Watch out for the 'surprise' twist at the end of the book - I was caught unawares !

This is book two of FBI agent Mercy Kilpatrick. You can read it without reading the first however, the first is so good and you get so much background it's worth reading. I thank Montlake Romance and Kendra for the ARC for a honest review.
I admired Mercy in the first book of the Mercy series. (I think we'd all like to be a smart FBI agent.) In this story Mercy works with police chief Truman Daly to solve the killing of two of their own. Shot down when they responded to a call of burning barn. Truman and Mercy use all their resources to see if the recent other fires, also arson, are tied to this one. No one was shot on the others but there are to many similarities to discount them.
Mercy struggles to reconnect with an estranged family, raise her teenage niece Kaylie, mend the totally broken bond with her other angry resentful older brother while she fights her growing attraction to Truman and her fears of rejection.
Through many twists and turns, the pain of the estrangement by her family, a niece sneaking out at night to meet an older boy, another body discovered and the disappearance of Kaylie's boyfriend, they search for a killer. In an ending that is shocking at what is revealed.
Great read highly recommend.

Thank you Netgalley and Kendra Elliott for this opportunity. Having read A Merciful Death I couldnt wait to get stuck into this one. And while this could easily be read as a standalone I would definitely recommend that people would read A Merciful Death first. From the very first page you are gripped until the very last! Bring on the next one, I cant wait.

Thank you very much to NetGalley and Kendra Elliott for the ARC of A Merciful Truth in return for an honest review, Having read A Merciful Death I couldn't wait to read this and i have to say Mercy Kilpatrick is my favourite character so far out of all Kendra's books. In this book a number of fires are being set deliberately and properties are being burned to the ground and at first it is thought to be teenage pranks but it soon turns out to be far more sinister. Mercy Kilpatrick and Truman Daly head the team to get to the bottom of it. Another brilliant read in the Merciful series and it can be read as a standalone but i would read A Merciful Death first to get the full enjoyment out of it. Loving the new Merciful series and can't wait for more!!!

FBI agent Mercy Kilpatrick has returned home to Eagles Nest but is not welcomed by her estranged survivalist family. There have been a string of arsons in the area that have escalated to murder when 2 police officers are killed. Police Chief Truman Daly is the local law enforcement officer investigating the case. There are also rumors of a growing militia group in the area.

Mercy is a strong woman, but issues with her family continue to impact her life. She and Truman make a good couple and you get to watch their trust and love develop slowly. There is plenty of suspense in this book and it will keep you glued to the pages. There was a twist to the ending that took me completely by surprise. I look forward to the next book in the series to see where the characters go from here. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

This is book two in the Mercy Kilpatrick series.

FBI Agent Mercy Kilpatrick left home at 18...and didn't look back for years, but a recent case pulled her back to her hometown of Eagle's Nest, OR and she made the decision to stay. Now she is investigating a series of arson fires that escalate to the murder of two sheriff's deputies. Racing to find the killer, she works closely with Police Chief Truman Daly, who also happens to be her boyfriend. As the pressure mounts to find the arsonist, family tension causes stress as Mercy navigates the murky currents that are engulfing Eagle's Nest...including a homegrown militia that is taking root just outside of town. Are the two related? Add to this a rebellious niece that Mercy is trying to keep on the straight and narrow, and there is enough to keep any reader guessing.

A skillful storyteller with an eye for detail, Kendra Elliot does her homework with every new story, which earns her the appreciation of her readers. The ability to create believable characters that are sympathetic and real, as well as a deft hand with a story line, make Elliot an author to add to your favorites.

Although this book was not as good as the first in the series I still liked it.. Mercy and Truman are such great characters you just want to keep on reading anything with them in the story line. Who is setting all the fires? and Why? You have to read to find out. Great suspense, good budding romance definitely keeps you flying thru the pages to find out the conclusion. I would recommend reading!

Mercy Kilpatrick was raised in the rural community of Eagle's Nest, Oregon by survivalists. She has returned home and is finding it difficult at times to overcome being shunned by her family and community. Bad enough that she left the area and her family's way of life but she is returning as an FBI agent, representing everything they are against.

What looks like teenage pranks to start, soon becomes clear its much more deadly. Mercy and her team of agents and Sheriff Daly have their work cut out to stop the culprits.

This book had me hooked from the first chapter. Fast paced, suspenseful and full of twists and turns, this book keeps you on the edge of your seat till the end.

A perfect balance of mystery, suspense and light romance. I can not wait for the next installment of this series. Ms. Elliott weaves a wonderful tale.

Excellent second book in this series. The characters are very interesting. The story grabs you and doesn't let go. Looking forward to the next one.

An utterly addicting read from start to finish. Having loved this authors other series I was little leary about this new series was about survivalists and home grown militia. The first book intrigued me in meeting Mercy Kilpatrick and learning about her childhood of being raised by survivalists who then ended up being shunned by her family and that situation was made worse when she became an FBI agent. But this book, I'm am now hooked line and sinkered in this world the author has created. The words and story just flowed and I am ensconced with all the characters.

The town of Eagle’s Nest, Oregon certainly has quite the left wing, right wing, and all over the place wing citizens. Mercy and her FBI team and her love interest Sheriff Truman Daly certain have their hands full trying to keep law and order. After this book I cannot wait to see what what's next for Mercy and Truman along with Mercy's family.

Kendra Elliot hits every note for me.... a great slow burn romance with wonderfully complex characters and a solid mystery with some creepiness and danger mixed in. The balance of mystery/suspense to romance is perfect for my tastes. Mercy and Truman are fantastic together and it is great to see the trust and love building in the second book of the series.

I received an ARC via NetGalley for my honest review.
