When we talk about conservation of species, we do not do it from the viewpoint of the species as food usually. However, this is what Upstream is all about. Hence, it was a big disconnect reading this book, thinking that human greed is already at play here.
I was proven wrong. i could feel the passionate desires of the people who did fishing for sport, that I do not mind knowing that in the end, many of these fishes end up on our tables. I enjoy a different take on species conservation and Cook's strong, emphatic prose.

The king of the sea and the silver on the table

An excellent read on the history, biology, and current struggles to survive of salmon. Cook offers views of the fish through the eyes of fishermen, fish biologists, and everyday people. It left me surprised that there are any salmon left in the world. Very interesting!

Edited (previously posted wrong review): I have always found the life cycle of Salmon most fascinating and Upstream really filled in the details that I never before knew or considered. I enjoyed learning about the hatcheries and preservation of a species that is vital to our waters.
